    GS QUESTIONS

I think the answers to each of those questions varies depending on your insurance and what kind of Bariatric coverage they offer if any. My insurance covers Bariatric surgery so I had to do a 6 month weight loss program. Then they submitted and authorization to my insurance to have a consultation with the surgeon. Once I met with the surgeon and we chose which surgery I would have I then got a list of required medical testing I had to complete plus a class that was required by my insurance. Once all of that was finished I had to submit another claim to get the actual surgery authorized which it was. I started this process last August and I am scheduled for surgery June 13. It could have been sooner, around April, but I pushed it back. As far as a pre op diet goes, most surgeons do require a 2 week pre op diet but they aren't always 2 weeks of liquids only. Mine is 2 weeks of liquids for breakfast and lunch and dinner is a sensible meal. And then the 48 hours prior to surgery are liquids only. Like I said, most experiences will vary but that's mine and I hope it helped you a bit!

    June sleeve buddies?

    I'm scheduled for June 13!
  4. I'm expecting my surgery to be February/March and at that time my youngest will be 10-11 months old. My husband and other family members will be around to help but I'm also breastfeeding and a bit nervous about that. Has anyone gotten sleeved while having a baby to look after? How did it go? Any advice? Sent from my iPhone

    Getting sleeved with a baby

Hello everyone. I am the original poster. I did decide to postpone my surgery until June at which point my daughter will be almost 14 months. Now the obstacle I'm dealing with is my family giving me a guilt trip for wanting to wean her. I have just about 2 months from now to accomplish this and I feel it is totally doable but they aren't being supportive. 😕

    Frustrated

I called my insurance today to check on the status of my referral for the consultation with the surgeon, and the surgeons office never submitted it! So of course I called them she she lied and told me that she submitted it on Friday. Now I am a week behind schedule... Sent from my iPhone
  8. .... for authorization to have a consultation with the surgeon. I just finished my 6 month pre op process that is required by insurance and apparently I have to go through 2 authorizations. When I see the surgeon ( if that gets approved) we'll go through everything that's needed to get approval for the actual procedure. So that's kind of a bummer having to go through an approval process twice. Sent from my iPhone

    Submitted to insurance ...

I have Blue Shield of CA. I have not met with the surgeon at all yet. For 6 months I check in with either a nurse or a dietician and discussed how that month went. So now I'm waiting to get approval to see the surgeon and discuss my options.

Did you discuss the breastfeeding with your surgeon?

    Getting Sleeved with a baby...

She takes bottles now of pumped breast milk since I'm working full time but I do already struggle with supply and what about the meds? Was there an issue with that?

    Frustrated before surgery

When I started my 6 month program that is required by my insurance I would go month to month just trying to wing it. Hoping I'd done enough in between appointments to lose some weight. I started to make little changes. I wasn't losing much (obviously) so I thought I'd try 2 Protein shakes a day plus a balanced dinner. That was around month 4 and everything just clicked. Things are still moving slow weight wise unfortunately but at least now I feel I am in the right mindset and really ready for this change. The dietician did mention that the surgeon wants to see a 10-15 pound loss pre op before he'll set a date which scares me that my surgery will be delayed because I'm in my 6th month and I've only lost 4 pounds (no gain but still...) so January 13 is my last weigh in and I'm just going to try my hardest these next 2 weeks to try to get as close to the 10 pound mark as possible, so 6 more pounds. Finger crossed!! Sent from my iPhone
  17. I am in month 5 of 6 months nutritionist visits required by insurance. My nutritionist suggested I do a modified liquid diet since my weight loss has been very slow. I've been having a shake for Breakfast, one for lunch and then I healthy dinner. I am not hungry and surprisingly it has been very easy for me to stick to. Ive lost 5 pounds during the first week. However, my eczema is breaking out like crazy on my hands! I know it's the shake because I've had this reaction to 2 other shakes I've tried in the past. I'm going to continue the shakes for as long as I can and discuss it with them at my next weigh in. Anyone else experience this? Sent from my iPhone

    Weird question...

  23. At my last check in, which was 3 out of 6, I was told that I should lose about 5 pounds between each of the remaining appointments. So about 15 pounds total. She said if I do not do this then the surgeon will ask that I lose weight before I will be scheduled for surgery. And I'm not talking about the liquid diet that shrinks your liver type weight loss. She means, just lose weight. Im 250 now (6 pounds lost since I began) so it's not like operating on me will be dangerous due to my weight and after all, Im doing this because I can't lose the weight on my own! I'm a little freaked out about it and I guess I should add that I have feminine issues that make it difficult for me to lose weight. Did any of you have pre op weight loss requirements other than then liquid pre op diet? Sent from my iPhone
