CURVES-please share you experiences
plump_princess replied to NOlanebryant's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Curves seems to be good option for a beginners, but from what I understand there is no real weight training, only resistance. I did it for a while and lost some weight, and got bored with the whole thing. I find I'm like that a lot with exercising, I need to move to a new thing every 6 months or so..... So if you are planning on joining, I would go month to month and not sign up for the whole year initially. -

Anyone just have 1 fill till you were done?
plump_princess replied to ebonie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a newbie, but I've had no fills, and no plans on getting one anytime soon, and I've steadily lost since being banded. I can eat 1/2-1 1/2 cups of food depending on the time of day/type of food. I've lost over 40 lbs and counting. I've got the new Realize Band, but I don't know if that makes a difference. I met a guy from my doctor's office who's lost well over 100 lbs and had never had a fill. My doctor says this is pretty rare, he's only seen a few cases like that in his years of experience. -

Nymphs - How many fills have you had?
plump_princess replied to -acl-'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had no fills, but I think at this point, I'm scared to even get one.... I'm only able to eat about a cup of food at a time, which at least a 1/3 of what I was able to eat before the surgery... and I'm hitting my 1-2 lbs a week... I PB if I eat too fast, or gulp too fast, as it is. So I don't think I'll be getting one until the weight loss stops. Is there anyone else out there like me? Someone who's felt restriction without a fill? -

My first goal is to go from being morbidly obese to just plain ol' fat :cool2: :rolleyes2: I'm 5'2 ish and 230, and for right now, I would like to be 150, size 12/14. I'm a ways away from that, but I'm just taking it one week at a time..... I haven't been 150 lbs since middle school..... can't wait to be there again
-
For me (I'm 5'2, broad shoulders)....a D was nice. I started out a D but I morphed into a DD after my first child and then a DDD after the second, and now since losing 30 lbs, they've told me I'm actually now a G. :wink2: I didn't know that was possible..... I feel like I'm going through puberty all over again!

Speaking as a Christian, honestly, you can't have really, really read the bible and then expect others to love you for preaching the truth about God's word. Jesus said "pick up your torture stake" to follow him, he said "you can't slave for two masters" and "lovers of the world, are enemies of God." He was, KILLED, for what he believed in. Christianity is not fun, fluff. In reality, there is only one way to go.... follow him because you know it's the right thing to do, all the while expecting rejection from those who chose to go against his teachings or.... gain acceptance by men. The bible is clear. We ALL have free will. The bible says sun shines and the rain falls on the just and the unjust.... God is impartial.... but his expectations are clear-- for those who want to follow him. BUT, we cannot force our opinions on anyone. There are going to be folks on this forum who hate the bible and organized religion and maybe they have some reason to be that way, this system of things is a nasty one to be living in. We all have pressures. Jesus preached the truth, but he was tactful, and never forced what he believed on anyone, and that's what we as Christians can use as our model. LET them have/post their opinions. How else would we be able to preach the word if we don't know who needs to hear it the most? As long as its not abusive, it should be allowed.

That n-word thread was interesting....i guess for some, ignorance is bliss, I was amazed at how other people got their panties in a bunch, when you try to tell the truth.... but it also bothers me sometimes when people try to impose their perspective/viewpoints on others, especially when they're wrong! :girl_hug:

Johnson & Johnson Bandsters
plump_princess replied to Kim Lucchesi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've got the Realize band. I was banded on Nov. 27th, and I feel quite restricted, so haven't had a fill yet. I've been steadily losing,at least 2 lbs a week for the past two months, had a few PBs, but otherwise, it's really helped to learn to make good choices food wise, so I'm ok with that. My doctor is happy with my results so far, and I just hope everything continues as it has! I've heard there was some sort of support group/resource and counseling available via the site, but I'm waiting for the information packet to come in from my doctor's office. Anyone been on the site yet? -

I with you on that one! Before the surgery I was popping Motrin like candy.... I have pretty severe degenerative arthritis due to some hip surgery 16 years ago..... Well, since the surgery and the weight beginning to come off.... I haven't had any need for pain killers or anti-noninflammatory meds this winter.... My surgeon was pushing a hip replacement, but now I feel maybe I can hold off a little while.... I love my band!
-
I am still struggling with this notion of "fullness", too.... Even without a fill, I go from not hungry to PB'ing in 3.2 seconds, so I am starting to learn to quit while I'm ahead... and stop eating when I've reached about 4 ounces.... which can be hard sometimes with that "head hunger" thing.

Abkin/Bertha patients - when did you get your first fill?
plump_princess replied to reillye's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can get a fill in their office at 6 weeks, if your weightloss has slowed and the doctor agrees you could use one. But, it will not be covered by insurance, and he (Abkin) probably won't perform it under fluoroscopy... (which is the more expensive procedure, requiring it to performed out of the office, in a hospital setting), instead, it would be performedin the office... That's what he told me. -
Who know, who doesn't, and why???
plump_princess replied to TX_IT_Chick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've told, pretty much anyone who's close to me. My boss at work even knows, and she was very supportive. My family, although apprehensive about it at first, turned out to be very supportive. I think of it like a hip replacement or a pacemaker..... It's a medical procedure... that will make you healthier and feel better, it's nothing to be ashamed of... Once I started talking about at work, I discovered 5 others who had had weight loss procedures, and I've gained a great support system at work. Do what feels comfortable for you, but for me I've found it was easier/just as easy to tell people as it would be to keep it under wraps.... -
I have had quite a bit of hairloss..... but I also had hairloss several other times in my life, usually when I was having a surgical procedure done. So if you have a history of it.... It may happen.... but it's nothing a synthetic drawstring comb ponytail can't handle As far as scarring, mine look amazing. I'm about 6 weeks out, and you can hardly tell where my port was (and that was the biggest incision).... My doctor uses stitches-- and he did a great job, all of scars are nice and flat... from past experience, I knew to use mederma once they healed over... to help out with the dark spots and they look great. My weightloss has been slow but steady:16 lbs after the first two weeks and 2 lbs a week, every week since then.... And I'm getting better and better at maintaining my stamina during my exercise routines.... I am quite pleased Slow and steady wins the race! Good Luck Everyone!

Nymph's Valentine's Day Challenge Week 1 (1/10/07)
plump_princess replied to hollyberries's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
1 lb down....9 to go -
I've got about 100 lbs to lose, I would like to be a healthier weight, and while tenetatively that weight is 150, I know it's bound to change. My goal is to be healthier and keep improving, and never get back to 263 and the awful hip pains I had. Every pound lost is 4 lbs off the joints... So far so good, 6 weeks out, and I'm improving... (no pain meds!). I lost a little more than 25 lbs--the equivalent of carrying around my 18 month old all day. That feels good. And I've got my sparkle back -- as my mom says. And that in and of itself, was worth the surgery. Now I've just got to live up to my dedication.... and keep consistently improving. Good Luck to everyone!
