I just called the surgeons office to make sure that we def had everything and she is actually submitting my request today...I am sooooo happy!!!:clap2:

Well, the time has finally come. I will take the rest of my info to the surgeons office today. They will fax everything to BCBS of Al tomorrow. I called BCBS and asked if they ever put rushes on approvals. And I explained everything to the lady--she just laughed and said that I needed to expect at least a 30 business day wait.......oh well.

I am 5'6" and at my heaviest of 270.....My size 22-24 depending on the brand. Can't wait to have the band!

I called BCBS of Alabama and they said no matter what you have to do the 6month diet plan.

That would be awesome if the 6 month thing was waived if you went to a BC of excellence....I am calling my insurance company tomorrow and I will let you know...this means I might actually get to have my surgery this year!!! I wish you had started this thread earlier :eek:

I have not heard that but I am going to a center of excellence and had to do the 6mo weight loss...I would be interested to find this out though.

This is the weight loss doctor that I started seeing before I decided to have the lap band. But I decided to keep going there bc I had already started their program. He doesnt believe in gastric surgeries he said. But see he filled out the first 5 months of paperwork but wont fill out this last month. I asked the nurse well make me an appt so that I can see him she said the first she had available was 12-28 well HELLO I said right now I am tent. scheduled for surge 12-27 but they dont care...so I had my surgeon request my records and I hope that that will be good enough.

Now my weight loss doctor is refusing to fill out my last form for my December visit. He filled out the other 5 months but wont fill out this last one....apparently he doesnt agree with the surgery...what the crap can he refuse to do that?? WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO???? I mean I have been going there for 6 months...and all of a sudden he wants to be a jerk at the last minute...GGGGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

Yeah, I am scheduled for the surgery 12-27 if BCBS comes thru. I had planned on calling them 2-3 days after the submission. Thanks alot!!!

The anticipation is killing me!!! I can finally submit my request for the surgery in 10 DAYS!! So, I call the surgeons office today to make sure they had everything..and was talking and she said yeah the surgeon could do the operation this month but that most likely BCBS wont approve it before the end of the year bc they know I will have to pay a deductible come January...and then I will also have to pay 20% this really bites!!!!!!!

<p>I initially lost 25 lbs within like 1.5 months then all of a sudden I didnt lose anything for 2 months...very discouraging....i am nearing the end of my 6 month program and I have gained some back....its hard....i have stopped going to the weight loss clinic as often bc now i have decided to go with the lap band..i just go the required amount by BCBS .but this is how it always works...i do good and lose a lot of weight really fast and then i cant lose anymore...everyone thinks its bc i start cheating but its not....i dont start cheating and giving up until after i start regaining the weight...then its like forget it.....</p>

I am 25 and hope to be banded in dec. My life has been nothing but crap for me. I truely believe that this will change things. I have researched and am ready! I understand that eating will be different. But the fact is this--we have made food the center of our social gatherings. Food is what people do. That is why we are so overweight. My friends call and say hey lets go hang out and I'm like sure you wanna go see a movie...no lets go out to eat!! I'm ready for food to no longer be the most important thing in my life.... I think what really turned things around for me was 2 years ago I was walking into a gas station and some guy yelled--"hey girl you need to lose weight" I said a few choice words but that really hurt...and what sux even more is I have gained more weight since then.....its sad to know that your husband (Idont care what any man says) would rather look at other women than you...hes says he doesnt but deep down inside i know the truth....Anyway, I think that this will better me as a person. I am willing to go thru whatever it takes!

Yeah my boss asks me a lot when are you having your surgery...I mean I dont mind that what i do mind is ppl telling me how to eat....you know I know that post surgery i will be limit on food intake but at this point I'm not so I am gonna eat kinda what I want...and they act like i'm gaining a hundred pounds in the process....surprisingly i havent gained any....but what do they know right??!!

yeah def call the insurance company first bc they can tell if theyll pay for it, how much they'll pay and EXACTLY what they're requirements are before you can have the surgery. That way you can start your journey bc it may be awhile before you even need to see the surgery...ie: you need your 6month weight loss program. Good luck

my co-workers are driving me crazy...I have kinda the last couple of weeks been in the mode of...I am gonna eat what I want and they all know I want to hopefully get banded in dec. they're like you cant eat that after surgery so why are you eating it now...blah blah blah!!! And they're horrible...they want to eat out somewhere EVERYDAY!!!! But you know what...I need to be studying during my lunch hour anyway

Thats strange bc like about a month ago I broke my retainer while eating and I didnt have anything to put in it...by the time I got home from the rest. I had to force the barbell thru.........

HEY!!! I'm a nurse I havent been banded yet...looking to do so hopefully in December!!! Just waiting on finishing the 6mo diet thing! I have a question though....Before nursing school in 2001 I got my tongue pierced...now mainly due to work and everything all I wear is a retainer so noone really knows that I have it. I havent had surgery since I was 5 y/o...my question is this Does anyone know if I will have to take my tongue ring out? I am really attached to it...sounds odd I know but I have had it now for 6 years....I have tried numerous times to take it out and leave it out but cant stand it.....If I take it out before surgery by the time I can put it back in it will have grown up........

I dont mean to be nosey but you got approved fast I have BCBS PPO and will be on a tight deadline to get approved and get my surgery done this year...but my question is this and certainly dont answer if you dont want to...I just wanted to know what my chances would be of getting approved quickly as well....what is your bmi and do you havce any comorbidities...again dont answer if you dont want and i hope that you dont view me as being too nosey...but i just was wondering...my 6mo weight loss is up dec 14...and my insurance will change in january...right now they pay 100% of the lapband but in january they will only pay 80% and I will have to pay my $400 ded. on top of that.....thanks and CONGRATS!!!!!!!

Yes, your letter was very helpful. I already have everything together needed for them to send in except my december visit to the weight loss doctor. They already have my h&p that the surgeon did, and my 3 years of weight loss. I will def ask them to fax everything in...I didnt think about that.....oh and yeah after the first of the year my insurance changes instead of them paying 100% they will only pay 80% and plus i will have my ded. Thats why I REALLY want to get this done this year.

Am I being realistic...can I really get this surgery approved and done by the end of the year..........................................Dec 14 I found out will officially complete my 6 months...I plan on taking ALL forms to the surgeon for submission that morning....I am sooo nervous!!!!!!!
