Oh my gosh, I was JUST a part of this conversation on Wednesday!! A woman at my work (RNY 3/13/13) was saying that her heart races too!! She said she happened to be on one of the Bariatric facebook pages when another woman posted about it, and she got quite a few responses. This IS something that happens to WLS patients. Carol (the woman at my work) said it happens to her when she seems to eat too fast. Definitely mention it to your surgeon, but just know that you are NOT alone with this.

Where i want to go to McDonalds and get a Big Mac, large fries, and large chocolate chip frappe..or maybe driver 45 minutes to the nearest In & Out and get a double double w/ grilled onions and a large chocolate shake...or go to the movie theater, and get a large bucket of popcorn with extra butter all for me. I'm 8 weeks post op and I battle my food addiction every second of my life. I was 250 pounds by the time I was 15 years old...I would use my allowance to go to the nearest liquor store and buy a 1 liter Pepsi, bag of hot cheetos, a king size Reese's PB cups, and a snickers ice cream bar. On days like THIS...I don't eat. The stuff I want to eat, is ridiculously unhealthy for me, so I choose to stick to my protein shakes and water. The head hunger doesn't always go away. I have a brother who says NOTHING tastes good to him (he's 9 months post op). I can do this. I will continue to fight the fight.

Just checking to see how everyone's process is going so far... As for me, I'm 8 weeks post op and down 37 pounds, 68 pounds overall. I lost about 60 pounds last year on my own, but then gained half of it back. -
Prunes all the way!! I never had a desire to eat them, but they are my friends now. I will usually eat 4 to 5, and within a couple of hours, I have a BM.

Discouraged Already

14 pounds in two weeks is amazing, congratulations! Some folks might disagree, but from what i've seen with my own eyes, the bypass people i know lost their weight SO much quicker than the sleeve patients and guess what...those bypass people look SICK as in, they are ill. The sleeve people don't look horrible, because their weight loss was steady. It's why i decided to go with the Sleeve, even though my surgeon seemed to want to lean me towards the bypass. Something tells me had you lost 54 pounds in two weeks, you'd probably be posting on here about it being too much in too little time. Again, congratulations. It's a life long journey, not a quick fix. -
Things people don't seem to talk about...

I agree with you on everything, BUT #4. I haven't tried Protein bars, but i love my chocolate Protein shakes. If I wasn't drinking 2-3 of them each day, that would just mean more room for things that I SHOULDN'T have but do, like you said, chocolate. -
Hi fellow 10/31er, I wish I could find the 'cure' for these flabby arms, but I have a feeling it won't be happening. I'm much heavier than you, so I wouldn't be surprised if I have to resort to having my arms done, God willing my insurance approve it.

I'm only 6 weeks post op, but have you done anything to change your routine up? Increase calories? Change exercise routine?

Premier Protein all the way! $25 for a 18 pack at Costco or Sam's Club. 30 grams of protein in each 11 ounce serving.

You are definitely not alone. I'm going to sound totally vain, but I seem to either attract 60 year old men, or forty-somethings with a lazy eye who are also missing some teeth. NO JOKE!! I'm 26 years old, so I think I deserve someone closer to my age and slightly more attractive. It's just yet to happen..

Good luck ladies!! Who is speaking at it? Dr. David spoke at the group Nutrition class I went to, and everyone had a great time. He is a great person to be around! -
What have you done well and not so well?
Crystal88 replied to Sunnyskies2283's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Bad: Sugary items - sugar LOVES my body, and it loves to turn right into fat and latch onto me. I had too much Cheesecake during Thanksgiving, I'll just leave it at that. Water intake - I'd say the most I've taken in is 46 ounces. There have been days where I drank so little, that I felt light headed. Good: Vitamin intake - This is actually much easier than I thought. I wake up, put the B12 sublingual under my tongue, half hour later have my chewable Multivitamin with yogurt, then an hour later take my first tablespoon of liquid Calcium Citrate. -

I'm doing very well!! I struggled remembering to take my Vitamins during week 2; i didn't even really start until week 3, but I've been good about that. getting my Fluid (mainly water) intake has been a challenge. They will tell you that you need to take in 64 ounces of fluid, but I have yet to achieve that. On a good day, I get in about 46 ounces; on a bad day, about 8 ounces. And during those bad days, I feel light headed. I've lost 26 pounds so far, which I think is amazing for being a month out! -

My pre-op was on 10/28. I met briefly with Dr. Boone and he confirmed I was getting the gastric sleeve surgery, told me what he was going to do, and how long it would take. He will also give you a chance to ask any questions you have. Then I headed downstairs to the Diagnostic testing office and had blood drawn, and they provided me with a wash that needs to be used the night before and morning of your surgery. My insurance was billed, but I still received the bill in the mail. They are VERY good about letting you know if you have to pay anything out of pocket. My entire process - all the appointments and the surgery- cost over $70,000 and I paid less $100, which was $25 here and there for office visits -

Going back to work
Crystal88 replied to Disney24fan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a Weigh Master at a large cattle company, and I was READY to go back!! I have a Wednesday-Saturday job, so it seemed like I was away from work for 2 weeks, but it was actually 6 days. I didn't have any issues. My boss asked me everyday how I was feeling and if I was ok; mainly because two former co-workers had weight loss surgery too, so he knew what to expect. I guess one of them still had discomfort when she went back, but it's been the opposite for me. It's been pretty busy, with a steadiness of trucks showing up, but I've done fairly well. -

They are WONDERFUL!! I went to the seminar and group nutrition class at the hospital. I love how everything is done within the same area!! The only appointment I had to make myself was with my gyno, and I did that in Hanford since it's closer to me than Fresno is. Dr. Boone is a great surgeon (easy on the eyes too), and I've heard nothing but great things about the other surgeons too. My night and morning nurses were so sweet; I loved them. -
I'm going to have to try this, because I have been thinking about pizza!! I regret not eating any before my surgery.
-
I am single, but pre-op and now, I seem to get comments from people telling me that I'm gonna get all skinny and forget about them. So ridiculous!!!
-
There's this new commercial Taco Bell has out, it's like a quesadilla with shredded pork or something, and it looks so disgusting!! There are a lot of local doctors here who are no longer prescribing pain medication because so many people are addicted to them, and I was telling my mom that people need to also be worrying about getting rid of all these food commercials because people are so damn fat and unhealthy.

Clothes after surgery
Crystal88 replied to tazpur74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have purchased some smaller sized stuff for cheap. Found $15 capri jeans at WalMart that were $5 on clearance, found some tops and jeans for $4 to $6 at various other stores like DD's Discounts. -
I'm a fast eater as well, and it's been a work in progress. I've gotten some stomach aches as a result of eating too quickly, and they aren't aches I want a visit from again. I seem to also struggle with the 30/30 rule; no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. Struggles all around for this girl!!

Other People's Opinion
Crystal88 replied to audefacere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I noticed my mother has asked me "are you allowed to eat that?" and included a "look" with it as well. I just say, "I dont know, but I want to see if I can handle it". A co-worker of mine who had gastric bypass 8 years ago was trying to tell me what to do as far as walking. She said I HAVE TO get up and walk every 2 hours; that's what she was told, so I should do that too since I work 10 hours. Umm, no lady, I don't HAVE TO do that. I don't like when people try to tell me anything about my surgery or how/what I should be eating, especially when they've got a snickers bar in their hand.
