If my protein drink is my meal, do I need to wait 30 minutes before I start drinking my water?
Betti Boop replied to brown eyed gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I thought I needed to wait too. But, got dehydrated and changed that while on the protein drink. It is a liquid, and you need water. So, although you need to check the drink around actual food, you need to figure if you are getting enough liquid. -
I went slowly on the detox of caffeine. I don't drink coffee, but had a huge diet coke issue for years. I just added water to my coke, starting with 1/4, them after a week or 10 days, 1/2, and the next week more water. I planned on 6 weeks and it took about 3 1/2 weeks before I was done. No headaches. I do suffer migraines so I was concerned. Am glad I am done, although sometimes I see a coke and have the urge, I know I am better off free of it. When I had my colonoscopy they found some ulceration which I am sure was from the sodas over the years. Good luck.

Take your toothbrush and Chapstick . Everything else is already there for you. The pjs will get in the way of the lines and tubes you will be hooked to.

The nutritionist versus my own choices...?

So, ask her what numbers she is counting. You know it's protein and ounces. -
Any Fun Hospital Stories?
Betti Boop replied to Jonathan Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, my friends and family all laughed at my speech while on the pain drugs. But. My newfound allergy to dilaudid was the surprise! I could have ripped my skin off. And, there is no provacy in hospitals! Argh ! -
When will I start feeling a little more normal
Betti Boop replied to Jorrin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went well. However my recovery hit some bumps. I ended up after a week with pneumonia and a small PE. Admitted for a day and a half. Went home, went to the doctor after 4 days and she threatened to readmit me if I did not have someone take care if me 24 hours a day for the next 5 days. My don came back home( he lives 1100 miles away) and took care of me. Hydrated and renourished me. I was still weak when he left but was on a better path of wellness. So my recovery was put back due to the dehydration. Get someone to come in and show them the plan. Make them make you drink an ounce if water and an ounce if protein drink every 15 minutes. You will thank them for your life. And it takes about 4 days if care. -
I went to Smart and Final and got some Torani sugar free syrups . Peppermint really helps me through the chocolate. And if you double the protein scoops you only have to do one shake per day.

Does everyone have a drain after surgery?
Betti Boop replied to cpower100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY and a drain while I was in the hospital (2days). Painful while in and some pain for the healing. Use a gauze pad over it while it is still healing. -

October 2014 RNY-ers :)
Betti Boop replied to superbariatricbabe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just checked in. Now waiting. -
One question you can ask your doctor is: does this med also come in a topical or patch form? For muscle spasms I use a Lidocaine patch. Works marvelous! Many meds come in a topical or gel form which might help if you take a lot by mouth.

October 2014 RNY-ers :)
Betti Boop replied to superbariatricbabe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well everything is done. All tests. All md meetings. Paperwork. Pre-op prep. Jello, cookbooks, applesauce, protein drinks. Laundry. Wake up at 5:30 in the morning and heading to the hospital 15 minutes away. Lol. Surgery starts at 8:30. Let's rock this thing!!!! -
Thanks. My son is here for the first few days and he will "encourage" me to walk. So, it will be a good start and no excuses for sitting around. And I have another friend it two that I will ask to walk with me after that.

October 14 peeps you ready
Betti Boop replied to Kpar909956's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am about as ready as I am going to get. Cleaned out the fridge last week. Bought needed essentials. Have prepping and post op med at hand. Coerced loved one to travel 1100 miles to care for me for 5 days. Coerced others to look I'm after he leaves. Had last nice meal with steak. Just need to figure out how to tell the cats that mommys yummy is not a may ground any longer. I love that my new life date will be 10/14/2014. Haha. Let's keep up the great attitudes losers! Love to all of you. -
Does everyone have an endoscopy?
Betti Boop replied to MBM1Forever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No scope? Mine was easy breezy with no sore throat. I thought they also use this to check the stomach presbytery as well. I pretty much have had a look everywhere. My "physical" is now pretty complete. I even made a copy for me and my son, in case something happens. I thought he should know what he inherited. LOL! -
How did you settle on a goal?
Betti Boop replied to roundisashape's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I picked my healthy goal of 130 ish since when I was in really good shape- exercising two hours a day that us about where I was. But my dream is to be 120-125. And I will strive to get there. But if I get to 150, 135. And then 130 I will have achieved the first goals. I come from a family legacy of short round people. It's tough out there to break out and keep it off. -
For those on liquid diets now.
Betti Boop replied to misstvb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thankfully did not have to do liquid diet prior to surgery. My date is next Tuesday 10/14. This is my last day of food. Tomorrow I stRt the prep phase for two days. Had my last big meal last night... Went to outback for my son and my sisters birthdays. Half a piece of salmon and half a piece of steak with veggies. My cheat was an alcohol beverage. Then we went on a 15 minute walk after dinner ... My son is so good at keeping active. He will keep me on track after surgery for the first three days. Then he goes back home. So I am getting a bit nervous and/or anxious. Bought all kinds of jello and pudding and soups to start off. The only thing I still need to get is some unflavored protein drink. Such a journey. -
I got mine today. My surgery is next week and wanted to avoid any postponement after surgery. I also have asthma and get one every year anyway. Plus I work at a hospital. After reading some of the stories sure glad I did. Like I said, will be joining this side of the journey next week.

Perhaps you cold think about how it would have been had you not made this change. You are 50 pounds lighter! Awesome! Don't cheat yourself. You are doing something right, and the hard work will pay off. Stay strong. Stay true to course. I think if you lose slower there will be less lose skin later .,. Maybe??? Keep positive. Keep up the hard work.

The beginning of my journey
Betti Boop replied to RobinL123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well Beni our personal journey is personal. About 10 people know. Probably 8 more than necessary. But my son will only be here for 3-4 days after surgery and I will need some help. But remember, most people are not going to be checking out your belly for a long while and by then the scars will be small. Yep, I will be on a "liquid" diet for that six weeks I am off - then diet once returning g to work. Like you day... Maybe someday or maybe never will people know. We are getting and using g a tool and we really are going on a life diet and exercise program. Really. 8 days to go ... Whew! Just picked up my prehospital mess and post hospital meds. $50. -
The beginning of my journey
Betti Boop replied to RobinL123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. I just tell people that I am having a hiatal hernia repair. And that I am dieting during my six weeks off work. All true. I don't need the extra judging. I have told 4 people at work and my boss. I work at a hospital in a cardiac unit. I would rather have this surgery than the one I see on a daily basis. -
They should ask if you have allergies. Let them know and they will figure something out. I am allergic as well- terrible burn rash. But I can get away with paper tape most times. Also targa deem can be used which might help- it's the clear plastic drape bandage ... But try the paper tape and ask them if it can be removed when just in bed to give your skin a break.
