One week later - back to work!

Thank you! So far so good. I share an office and thankfully my office-mate is not in bc I have my pants unbuttoned and I keep burping! Glad I can shut my door and just work!

    Recovery Time

I was sleeved on the 29th and I will be returning to work tomorrow, one week later. I physically feel ok, but I am prepared for some fatigue!
  3. I am just under one week post-op from the sleeve. Overall, I'm feeling great after a rough first 2 days. I can get in my fluids and aside from a little incision pain I'm relatively pain free. My biggest issue right now is stomach swelling. Now I know everyone is different, but how long did it take for your bloated belly to subside?

    Congratulations! Good luck to you

One week post op and only lost 3lbs...

Out of curiosity I weighed myself the day I got back from the hospital and I was up 11 pounds from all the liquids! Your body was likely stabilizing all this week. I don't get hung up on the scale, and never have, so weighing frequently isn't a big deal for me. If you think it's going to mess with your head maybe only weigh every 2 weeks or monthly?

    Pre-op testing?

@@AhnaLucille -I'm home and doing well. I came home Saturday morning and feel so much better since leaving the hospital. I still have gas and incision pain, but overall I'm doing well. I'm obviously not at my target Fluid intake, but I feel comfortable about what I've been able to get in. I get in a good amount of Water daily, and yesterday I got in some broth and Protein shake as well. My goal is a little more each day. I still take my pain medicine about once per day (it's prescribed for every 4hrs as needed) but I feel like I need it less and less. The more I move around the better and more human I feel. I attempted to sleep in my bed on my side last night which was an epic fail though. I'm a lifelong stomach sleeper so it's been a challenge since surgery. I don't have a recliner but I have a big comfy chair/ottoman combo that has been serving as my bed. I'm going to give it a few more days and try again! Hopefully by next weekend my bed will be more comfortable! Overall, I feel pretty good all things considered!
  7. So I'm one week away from surgery on 1/29. The office hadn't contacted me since my last appointment in December - not even to tell me I was approved (I emailed them). So it's one week away and I literally don't even know what time my surgery is (I have been emailing the surgical coordinator with no response). I call today because I'm concerned about my lack of information and of course the coordinator was gone, but I explained the issue to the woman who answered. "Oh you don't know about your pre-op testing?" My what? No. I have done all of my insurance requirements and have approval. I have submitted bloodwork and just had my endoscopy. Nothing else was told to me. What is this pre-op testing that they speak of?

    Surgery tomorrow at 10am!

@@Tanya Gif I went to NYU and had surgery with Dr. Schwack. I was pleased with the hospital staff and everyone was very good to me. When I was having pain and nausea issues everyone was quick to spring into action to get me comfortable. Staying an extra night I really saw how kind all the nurses were. I can't say that I ENJOYED my time in the hospital but they certainly made a crappy 2 days so much more tolerable. My main bandages came off today (no more hearts *sad*) but it looks like under the steri-strips that my incisions are actually pretty small, which is always a good thing!

One week later. I feel great

Thank you Eli. I am on this journey alone, so these boards are all I have related to this. I have finally found a comfortable position - where I am sipping while doing calf exercises. I do laps around the apt every other commercial. It's taking me about 7 hours to get in 20oz of Water. I expect this to slowly get easier each day. I am really proud of myself for doing this. As I was freaking out in the pre-op area I kept repeating in my head that I am doing this for my health and I am extending my life AND significantly improving the quality of the life that I have, I just have to survive this first week. At this point next year I will be in a significantly better position that now, I just need to keep the eye in the prize.

    Pain Meds post surgery

I got my liquid from the hospital pharmacy as well. They know that patients will have a need, and tend to carry the dissolvable & liquid forms. Definitely worth checking out!

Side Note: how cute that my surgeons did hearts for my gauze?

Wahoo @@della street! What about you @@joleno? It's so helpful to know other people going through the same things - even if we did get different procedures done! I'm currently using a smart water squeeze bottle and I'm legit just letting it dribble into my mouth. It's not much at a time but it's doing the job

One week later. I feel great

Thank you for posting this. I was sleeved Thursday, and I've been home for about 2 hours. I had the same feeling of panic sitting in the wheelchair outside of the operating room. If they took my heart rate it would have read off the chart. Immediately after surgery I was in A LOT of pain. Apparently my body doesn't respond to the pain med they gave me. Once they figured that out, it was much smoother. My first day was a little tough - I was in a room with 3 other people that smelled like poo and had one woman audibly moaning in pain. The beds hurt my back terribly. I most definitely had a omg what have I done to myself moment here and there. Today was a brand new day, whole new mindset. I got to leave the hospital and I'm home and in such a better headspace. Like you, I weighed myself for giggles ha! 11 lbs full of fluids - no wonder my fingers felt so swollen! I'm having trouble finding i comfortable place to sit/lay. They want me upright when drinking, which I'm expected to be going basically always. I'm still taking medication and will until I'm in a little better shape. Back to the Water bottle!

    Post op experience

I was sleeved on the 29th too in nyc. I'm still at the hospital but likely discharged today. I had a lot of pain & nausea yesterday, so I wasn't able to get up and walk or get the fluids the needed me to get. I'm really looking forward to home!

@@della street you are running circles around me! Glad you feel so great! I just spoke with my doc's team and it looks like they're letting me leave today! I can't spend anymore time in this joint - the beds, the smells, the sound effects! I'm feeling ok, with some gas pain - but I'm doing some walking to help. My incisions (5) hurt but it's more annoying sore. I still have to up my liquids. How is everyone else doing?

    Pre-op testing?

Thanks guys. I'm still at the hospital. I was scheduled to stay one night but I'm staying 2. I had terrible nausea so I haven't been able to get my liquids in and haven't been walking much. The nausea is staring to go away so I'm hoping by the morning I'll be able to get in more fluids, but I'm already walking more. I don't have anyone here with me and I'm just bored out of of my mind.

    Surgery tomorrow at 10am!

One major bummer about staying another day - I'm more out of my mind! I don't have anyone with me and I'm sharing a room with an elderly woman who doesn't have control over her loose bowels ???? I'm starting to walk now but I can still barely get in any Water. There's no way they'll let me leave drinking this little so I need to get my butt in gear. Easier said than done.

    Surgery tomorrow at 10am!

I'm staying at the hospital one more day. I was supposed to be leave today at 11 but because I've had such nausea I haven't been able to walk and drink as much as they want me to. Im starting to feel pretty decent but I'm glad I didn't leave as planned - I wouldn't have felt comfortable! How is everyone else doing?

    Surgery tomorrow at 10am!

I'm done! Resting now. I was the first of many for the day so I haven't spoken to my surgeon yet, but Ite did learn something new: apparently my body doesn't react to dilaudid (sp?) at ALL. I was in excruciating pain in recovery for what felt like hours. Turns out, morphine, a less strong drug, worked waaaay better for me. Bizarre. Nap time. I'll catch up soon.

@@della street I ended up being ok with the snow - my area got some but not nearly as much as predicted. Some of my friends in Long Island got buried though! I had to show up early for my pre-op testing appointment and PCP appointment for clearance, but made it in before the travel ban and snow got too messy. Both offices were closed yesterday so I had to wait for medical clearance until today! Talk about cutting it close! So exciting for all of us! Let's be sure to update tomorrow or Friday once we are off the heavy drugs and capable of making sense!
