    What to do about Thanksgiving?

My concern is establishingunrealistic expectation. You should plan around the "worst" happening. What if your recouperaion doesn't go well. What if you have complications? If you plan for them - then if they don't happen, you will have a nice quiet thanksgiving. If you don't plan for them and they do happen, you will have an unbelievable stressful thanksgiving. Tell everyone there will absolutely be no thanksgiving at the house. If they want to go out for thanksgiving dinner - but you will not be playing host because you will be recuperating from surgery. Don't set yourself up by keeping your surgery a secret. and by having unrealistic expectations. 2 weeks post surgery. -- rest and relax.

    What to do about Thanksgiving?

I would tell him that is NOT a good time to visit. I am on a special diet, and having visitors is stressful. That I Am going to be just two weeks out of surgery and still recouperate from surgery. That you can't really entertain or have Quest. I will say while I appreciate his wanting to visit this is not a good time. BE direct.
  3. Are you getting enough Protein? DId you do okay on liquid diet? You might want to back up your diet to a previous stage where you weren't dry heaving. Rhe maintain thing is to get your protein.

    annoting personal questions people ask.

I know it is annoying but they are both curious and concern, The best way to handle the question is to say directly, "I know you are only concern and well meaning BUT it would help me if you didn't ask me questions about my diet or weight." In the alternative answer the questions with as little information as possible - do not invite conversation by answering with long explanations; #1) are you supposed to eat that? YES 2) are you eating too much? NO 3) is that all you're going to eat? YES 4) Any good buffets we can go to around here? YES, BUT I WON'T BE GOING.

    Liars!

I think it is essential that you get a doctor to manage your care-- may be your primary doctor. If the post surgery is not managed correctly - there could be life threatening consequences.

    Liars!

Sounds like you had a horrible experience and I feel for you. First, there are complications from the procedure going in and my doctor not over went over each complication in as much detail as I wanted. I emailed him question about His particular statistics related to the procedure. It you weren't fully aware of the possible short and long term consequences than you need assess your doctor not the procedure. Second, as a person with chronic diseases (GERD high BP, disabetes, thyroid, arthiritis) I quickly recognized that the surgery subsituted 1 chronic disorder (malnoutrition) for obesity and all the obesity related disorders. I said this to my doctor before the surgery, he looke surprise. But agreed. I have been off diabetes, my bp is running normal and the doctor is talking about decreasing my thyroid medication. Personally I think it is a fair exchange. Finally, this surgery is not about losing weight - if it is a bout losing it quickly AND keeping it off. I have lost hundreds of pounds over the years this surgery provides away to make the lost permanent. Clearly, if you can llose weight quickly and keep it off this surgery is not for you. IN fact, my insurance requires a history of yo-yo weight losss before they will cover. Sounds you have had an experience that may not been characterized by you being fully informed - that is a problem of the surgeon and his team. not the surgery. Have you confronted your surgeon about your feelings? you should.

    ARRRGGGGHHHHH! my mother #$)&(*U#)(*

When my son was in his twenty's and gave me attitude everytime I attempted to give him advice. I finally set him down and told him "Listen, I know you are grown and are going to do what you want to do' As a parent it is not my role to tell you every decision you are making is fine - that's your friend role. But when I give you advice, you don't have to take attitude - Just say thank you mom and then do whatever you want. I hope you factor in my advice but if you don't I ain't mad at you - because I recognize you are a grown person. So stop being so defensive.' We've had a wonderful relationship and he on occasion seeks my advice. \
  8. I started this journey when my son (43 years old) called me and said that he was going to get the surgery. and thought i should. My son is a person who researches thoroughly before making a decision. He was particular impressed by the research that showed the significant impact that the gastric bypass had on diabetes. At almost 70, having surgery is no small decision. But after reviewing the research. I agreed and I started the process. Amazingly even though I started the process earlier than my son. I got approval first (could be all those weight related chronic diseases ), Also humana medicare did not require any pre-weight loss. Plus being a smaller town I think it was easier to get scheduled. also, because I had chronic diseases, I have an existing relationship with my cardiologist and other specialist it was easy getting there approval, My doctor didn't send anything into the insurance until everything was complete and I got approval in less than 2 weeks. The surgery was scheduled for a month later. My starting wieight was 368 lbs. The per-surgery diet was easy - two shakes a day and two low calorie frozen meals and two cups of vegetables. - 1 for lunch and 1 for dinner. I opted for Atkins Weight loss because I prefer a low carb/ moderate fat diet over moderate carb/low fat. I lost 6 lbs on the two weeks per-surgery diet. So my pre-testing was uneventful. I had been diagnosed with sleep apnea years ago but had never used the machine. My doctor made it clear that he wouldn't do the surgery unless I was using the CPAC regularly. So of course I did. i had the surgery on Sept. 16, 2014, 7:15am. I had laparoscopic robotic gastric bypass . it went well no complications. I had very little pain, no nausea or diarrhea. The only problem is that my oxygen saturation levels dropped below 88 when I walked. So the doctor ordered another sleep study to determine my oxygen saturation during sleep. Sure enough the levlels dropped during sleep. So I was discharged home on Oxygen. My recovery at home was uneventful. till my 2 week folloup No pain, no nausea, no vomiting. At two weeks I had lost a total of 22 lbs. The doctor thought I was doing so well that he moved me from the liquid diet to the soft diet. This is when I encountered my fist hiccup - the first soft meal stimulated my GERD. Gastroesophageal reflux disease - The pain from that was excruciating. . I backed off the soft diet, went back to the liquid diet and worked with my doctor to get better medicine. I seem to finally to reestabish my equilibrium. So I am 4 wwks from surgery - - I have had no significant complications; my incisions are all healed. I have lost 32 pounds. .
  9. You may need to be assertive/aggressive with your surgeon. Ask how many times will be dilate before he do a revision. If his answer is unacceptable tell him so,.
  10. it is about the incisions being completely heal. In the bath there is the possibility of "contamination" because you are sitting in dirty water.
  11. Take a good look at your employers written policy and actual practice regarding sick leave/time off. I don't think the law gives you a complete right to privacy. In general, If you are going to use sick leave, ask for time off the employer can request medical certification. Personally, I understand not wanting to tell your employer - but you don't want to blindside them either - it could make them unsympathetic to your situation if you need time off. Here is an article that discusses employer/employee right: http://www.gfrlaw.com/pubs/GordonPubDetail.aspx?xpST=PubDetail&pub=478
  12. THank you so much. I am glad you took the steo at a younger age. It must be life changing. What is your goal weight? I was very thin till my early 20's then I began to gain and have been doing so my entire adult life. How has your chronic diseases (specifically your diabetes) responded to the surgery and weight loss?
