I have quite a few medicines. I take them slowly with my morning shake over about 30 minutes. I have had no problems. But these kind of problems are so individualize,

If my protein drink is my meal, do I need to wait 30 minutes before I start drinking my water?
MsUjima replied to brown eyed gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wait. I think the reason for not drinking Water is not to flush your meal through is also true for your shakes. But most importantly, I want to train myself. -

I am eight weeks out. The only exercise I do is walking. I started about three weeks after the surgery. I use fitbit to measure my steps. When I started I was doing 500 steps per day. I am up to 2200 steps (1 mile). I am gradually increasing. I get my steps by walking extra steps in my house when ever I get up, walking in my apartment halls, and increasing my steps naturally (parking futher in the parking lot). At the end of the day, I walk in the halls whatever additional steps I need to meet my goal. I plan to do this plan until it warms in the spring than I will start walking out doors.

5 days post op. Want real food!
MsUjima replied to Liprippa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did long did your doctor say you needed to be on a liquid diet? I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks, a pureed diet for 4 weeks and I just started solid foods. Also, my doctor was adamant about no processed carbs. -
I don't think anyone is implying that this is easy or that you thought it would be easy. But you asked a specific question - is this behavior okay? The specific answer is NO. We are being supportive - by telling you to get help. But apparently that is not the kind of support you want. I understand.
-
Of course, you are going to be judge on one post AND you ask for it. "Ugh be nice to me but tell me to stop! Or tell me I'm okay. I don't know this is annoying" The only way not to be judged on one post is not to post. Don't be angry because people are giving you advice that you aren't prepared to hear. I really hope that you will seek some help.
-
Frankly, you have an answer for everyone for why your behavior is okay. I am curious why did you post if you are not prepared to even consider that you may have a problem. Are you just looking for someone to tell you that it is okay? Please listen to the advice that people are giving you. You may be to close to see what your behavior looks like -- but from a distance -- it looks the behavior of someone with some serious eating problems that might be helped by counseling.

(1) How old are your kids? Are they old enough to know that mommy's food is "off limits"? If not, hide it in your room. (2) I did Isopure rtd Protein clear liquid in a lot of flavors. Each 20 oz bottle had 40 ounces, I mixed it half with Water and sip the 20 oz over 3 hours. I also put a touch of stevia sweetening. (3) Contact your doctor about the heartburn they can adjust your medicine or even change it. My doctor moved me from generic to Nexium and it seems to be working really well Hope you feel better soon.

I found this on the internet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNDPbODWBwg > Have you tried this technique? I really think you should see a doctor and have it removed immediately. -
3 weeks out; size of pouch?
MsUjima replied to brown eyed gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am started my solid foods this week (8th week). I am to supplement my solid food with shakes as long as I need to get 80 gms of Protein. Right now that means two protein shakes a day. As to pouch capacity, I understand that the pouch holds 3-4 oz. I was advised to sip not drink. I sip no more than 1 - 1.5 oz. but I sip continously. I try to finish a 20 z jar over 4 hours and I try to do 3 jars a day -
Sounds right to me I am in 8th week and I am eating about 500 calories.
-
I moved to nexium - instead of the generic and it did help

I can't use milk because I am lactose intolerance. I searched and found a Protein powder that had little or no lactose. I use Isopure. I use Water instead of milk. I also use mil substitutes - almond milk, soy milk.

my doctor recommended no more than 2.5 to 4 ozs and I seem to be tolerating about 3 ozs. I am two months since my surgery.

Blood sugar issues are not a part of gastric bypass - she should see her doctor about diabetes.

Black bypass patients and high blood pressure
MsUjima replied to MisforMimi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
here is a summary from one study: Of 1,025 patients treated, 15% had type 2 diabetes mellitus and 51% had hypertension. Of those with diabetes, 75% also had hypertension.. African-American patients had a higher risk of hypertension than whites before GBP and were less likely to correct their hypertension after GBP. There was significant resolution of other obesity comorbidity problems. See, Diabetes and Hypertension in Severe Obesity and Effects of Gastric Bypass-Induced Weight Loss The issue for African Americans is more complicated the hypertension is not just obesity related but chronic stress of racism - see my book - Dying While Black -
Black bypass patients and high blood pressure

When I went into the surgery I was on four blood pressure medicines and insulin for diabetes. I am 7 weeks out my primary doctor has dropped the insulin and my carthologist just took me off 2 of my blood pressure medicine. -
I raised my children as a single parent and This is a case of where you need to do worst case scenario planning instead of best. We can tell you how well our surgery went - But it is not uncommon to feel bad for a week or two after the surgery. Also, you might not be able to lift her for several weeks. Do you have someone who can stay with you for 2 weeks and longer if required.

i use the fitbit flex. I like the computer interface. tracks steps, sleep and allows for goal settting. it automatically uploads when you are near the computer. I hate exercise. when I started using the tracker I was doing between 500 - 700 steps per day. I set my goals low - 2000 steps -- I am there and I plan to increase it next week to 2500 steps. I find my self checking at the end of the day and do what I need to do to meet my goals.
-
I didn't do a liquid diet at all. I did 10 days controlled portion diet using frozen diet food and 2 shakes per day.
-
You are inspiration and I submitted a comment on fit bit. Which is what I am using as well. When I started I was barely getting 500 steps per day. I am up to 2000 steps. Yeah!

3 weeks out is it normal to have 8 oz of food
MsUjima replied to belllopez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of surgery did you have? Are you eating 8 ozs per day or in one sitting? What did your nutritionist say? My surgery was in 6 weeks ago. I started puree foods a couple of weeks ago. I am eating between 1.5 to 2.5 ozs per meal. I should be eating three meals but I am not. -
Are you working with a counselor? THe biggest barrier to many people success is their emotional/mental dependency on food. Like most dependencies it often takes serious long term counseling to work through the issue. I hope that you can find away to get a handle on your thoughts.
