I will be having the bypass at SkyRidge. Was going to have sleeve but changed to bypass. My insurance doesn't require any pre diet, but I will be starting one on my own starting next week. Need support from anyone who wants keep in touch ! -
Have to figure how to add you as a friend have no clue how to do it yet

Hi ! I had actually received a letter from the program at Parker (I think his name is Dr. Long) back in the spring. Thought how did they get my name ? I was gonna go to the seminar but then decide to go to SkyRidge seminar. There is a friend of my husband's family who had his surgery with Dr. Chae and highly recommend him. When my primary Dr. found out I was having my surgery with him she told me I am in excellent hands and highly recommended him too. His name is Dr. Frank Chae. He has performed over 4,000 surgeries and was the first DR in Colorado to perform the bypass and sleeve laproscopically. I feel very comfortable with him. I haven't started any prep diet yet but will be starting next week hopefully. My insurance doesn't require any diet or exercise program for any length of time. Since I have a BMI over 40 I don't have to have any co morbidities even though I have high blood pressure and probably sleep apnea. I believe I heard that Dr. Chae only requires a three day prior to surgery liquid diet. I had to take a 5 hour nutrition class which cost $150 before they could submit for insurance approval I'm still waiting for that approval. He has a nutritionist that works out of his office and also a Psych dr.

Hi Lost1, I'm located in Littleton, CO a little far from the Springs. If you know the surgeon you will be using they should have a support group connected to their office you could ask them. if they have suggestions. I too go to the SkyRidge monthly support group. I'm going to be having my surgery there. Just waiting for my Insurance approval so I can schedule my surgery. I'm a newbie on this sight. If you need a Co buddie I can use the support too !

Does everyone have an endoscopy?
tissiegirl replied to MBM1Forever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi MBM1Forever, My surgeon doesn't require a scope. I think it depends on the surgeon or if they think its needed. My surgeon only requires extensive blood panels and heart test. I'm just waiting for insurance approval to schedule my surgery. I am having the same feelings as you excited one day and freaked out the next. Good Luck ! -
I'm a Newbie ! Here is my story....
tissiegirl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Started my process with the surgeon informational meeting back in July. Started thinking about this in the beginning of year but actually thought about this about this for the last 20 years but was too scared and wanted to beat this on my own. I had some weight loss success but unfortunately more of them have been failures and now at my highest weight I've ever been. In the spring I received a letter from a Hospital Bariatric program asking to go to their seminar which I thought how did they get my name ? Which I assume from insurance company. I am going to a surgeon closer to my house, and who was highly recommended to me also know someone who has had the surgery with. My insurance doesn't require any diet or exercise program prior to insurance approval. Just 5 yr health records, initial nutritional consultation and 51/2 hour nutritional preop class. Next week surgeon office is submitting paper to insurance company for approval. Hoping to be scheduled in November surgery. I'm scared and excited at same time. Any advice or encouragement anyone can offer would be awesome. Initially was gonna have the sleeve but since changed my mind to the bypass. Thanks for reading ! ???? -
My insurance company too doesn't require a diet and exercise program. The obesity nutritional visit were not covered. For me had to do a initial nutrition consultation , consultation with surgeon, submit 5 years of medical records and a 5 1/2 hour nutrition class with obesity nutritionist. Since I have a BMI is over 40 I'm not required to have 2 additional morbidities (even though I have at least 2). Talk to my surgeon office Friday they will be submitting the paperwork for approval next week. Doesn't sound at all far fetch that your ins company isn't requiring a lot info for approval. Good luck !
