What foods can you NOT eat since the surgery?
Skinny_Jill replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't eat french fries which is a good thing because that was my downfall. I think I've had 2 since surgery in November. I don't miss them at all. I can still eat pizza which is a bad thing. I can eat rice but it can cause some discomfort. Bread can be difficult. I have no problems with salad. I never liked salad before I was banded but now I love them. The band has really changed my attitude about food. Dry meats are bad. When we BBQ we now buy chicken legs and thighs. I've never PB'd but I don't keep my band very tight. I am getting a fill next Tuesday so some of the foods listed above may be out of the question for a while. -
Well, I didn't make it the full 5 days but I do feel better. I think letting the stoma rest for a few days on liquids was beneficial. I no longer have pain when I eat. I think it needs to rest every once in a while. I lost 3 pounds on the test but I had a small gain over the weekend because I was bad. I do know now that I need another fill so I am going next Tuesday. I haven't had a fill since January 30. I can definitely eat too much.

Congratulations! That is fantastic. You look great. Have you find a doc in your area yet? I'm glad to see you are still sporting your Dallas Cowboys attire in South Carolina.

You know you are a bandster when....
Skinny_Jill replied to Tyler883's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sadly, this bandster came back from Vegas with 3 pounds. It's okay, they are gone now. LOL -
I made it through day 3. I've lost a total of 3 pounds so far this week. I know the goal isn't weight loss for the 5 day pouch test but I would have been very disappointed if I hadn't lost. I do feel much better while eating. I can tell my pouch seems happier. LOL No pain while eating and food goes down better. I think we definitely need to give it a rest every once in a while. This seemed to do the trick. I am thinking about doing one day of liquids every week. We'll see if I candle that.

WOW! A daily deficit of 4600 calories. That is amazing. Your body might be in starvation mode if you are burning that many calories. You may need to increase your calories to really lose. I had to do that in the beginning because I was not losing. I now know I have to eat 1200 - 1300 calories a day and sometimes more when I work out. I know that will be hard after a fill. I'm sure the weight you really start to drop soon. What are you doing to burn 6200 calories a day? That is super impressive.

So far the 5 day pouch test is good. I am on day 3 which is soft protein. I've had 1 boiled egg and for lunch I made up 6 ounces of tuna with 1 boiled egg and some light mayo. I ate about 1/2 of it and I am eating the rest now. I really feel like it has helped. I lost 1.6 after the 1st 2 days. -
Wow, this is restriction, huh?
Skinny_Jill replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow! That is restriction. I could eat more than that the day of surgery. Be very careful when you start on solids. Good luck! -
do you follow the post fill diet and why is it necessary?
Skinny_Jill replied to Linda Hamsing Rosen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc says to eat mushies after a fill and only do liquids if the mushies are a problem. I've always been able to eat mushies without a problems the day of the fill. That being said it always best to follow your doc's instructions. He knows more about your situation than we do. Good luck! -
i am staying on plan today because ...

I am staying on plan today because I am doing the 5 Day Pouch Test this week and because I want to keep losing. -
I turned 40 on May 9. I went to Vegas to celebrate. I say live it up. The big birthdays can be fun but it is up to us. I love any reason to party! Of course, the fact that I weigh 52 pounds less than I did when I turned 39 made it much better.
-
Robin, That is great. Congratulations! I am getting close to the 2/3 mark. I am at 61.8%. I love my band.

I survived day 2. I am down 1.6 pounds after the first 2 days. It is nice to be back to solid food today. I had a boiled egg for Breakfast and I will have tuna for lunch. I brought another boiled egg to have as a snack later if I need it. How is everyone else doing?

I think this is working. I haven't been as hungry today and I've had a lot less to drink so far. It is so nice to feel in control again.

I'm so excited. I am signing up with a personal trainer tonight. The exercise is really going to boost my weight loss and knock off the inches. I used to work out with a trainer 5 years ago. I worked out with a trainer for all of 2002 and most of 2003 and still couldn't lose weight. I did lose inches and really was more toned. I can't even imagine how the weight will fall off now that I have my eating in control. I can't wait for the pain!

Hi Cindy, I love my trainer. I work out with him 2 days a week. I try to do cardio on my own but I am not getting enough in. I walk my dog and that is about it. I can't seem to make myself go to the gym unless I am meeting the trainer. Maybe I will try water aerobics. I will check the gym schedule and see when they offer it.

Hey everybody, How was day 1? It wasn't bad for me. I got hungry a couple of times but I would eat some SF pudding or have a Protein shake and I that would satisify me. I lost 1 pound yesterday. I was thrilled to see that and suprised because my sodium intake was very high thanks to the soup. Yesterday I ate/drank: 3 Protein shakes tomato soup 1 SF pudding cup 1 SF Jello cup Starbucks tall Skinny Carmel Machiatto Hot and sour soup (made from a packet I bought at the store) 64 ounces Water I felt great yesterday too. I made sure that I got in all my calories because my body refuses to lose weight if I don't eat enough. It was nice to not be in pain while eating. Of course, the pain is never bad and only lasts for the first few bites but it was still nice not to have to deal with that. It was also nice not to obsess over what I was going to eat. I had very little to choose from and that made it easy. I hope everyone had a great day 1!

November Nymphs Summer Kick-Off Weight Loss Challenge
Skinny_Jill replied to cindyg1212's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You sound just like me. I feel the same way. I also have the APS band. I have 4.5 cc's. -
My trainer took measurements last week and the results were great! I lost a total of 13 inches in just over 2 months. I am so excited. It makes the hard work worth it. During that time I also lost 13 pounds. My lean body mass slightly increased and my fat decreased considerably. My overall fat % dropped 5%. It is so nice to see results other than scale, especially since the scale has slowed down so much.

I had a blast! It it times like this that reality sets in and you realize that it is up to us and not the band. There is always something to learn with this band. Of course, I've always known it is up to me to make good choices but after the initial weight loss it becomes much harder. I used to be able to eat almost anything and still lose but now I have to really plan and make smart choices. I think I need a fill but I am going to see how the 5 day pouch test works and then make my decision. I hate being too tight. I've been able to lose without a lot of restriction which has been great because I haven't had any PB episodes. I am so scared of that first PB. -

That is funny but true. :tongue2: -
Cindy, I don't think there is a specific carb target but I think we are supposed to go for low carb Protein drinks. I am using unjury chocolate which I really like and it has only 4 carbs. So far today it is going well. I brought tomato soup for lunch and I brought some SF jell, SF pudding and chicken broth in case I am starving later. I also mixed up 2 servings of Unjury for later too. I am definitely covered for today and tomorrow on the liquid phase. Foofy, The more the merrier. I hope you decided to do it. The more support we have the more successful we will be. I am sure by the end of the day I will craving odd things but I will not cave. I will pretend I just had surgery and if I don't follow it I could damage my band.

I hope we hear from him soon. I am starting to get worried.

November Nymphs Summer Kick-Off Weight Loss Challenge
Skinny_Jill replied to cindyg1212's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am still struggling to get off the weight I gained in Vegas. I am still up 1 pound but I am going to do the 5 Day Pouch Test this test and I am hoping it will help get me back on track. I can still meet my goal so I am going to try very hard. -
Shalee, I am glad you are going to do it too. We can support each other this week if it gets tough. Cristal - That is great to hear. I hope it helps me too.
