Turtle, I'm so sorry you are losing your hair. That seems fairly common from what I've seen here. I am very concerned about that as I have very thin, fine hair now and if I lose any after surgery it will be very noticeable. However, I would rather be thin and healthy in a wig than fat and unhealthy with my own hair. I know it will grow back but I am still nervous about it.

Kristin, I am so glad you don't have the gas issues. I hope I am that lucky. We haven't heard from Andie yet. I hope you continue to improve and don't get any gas pains.

I'm so sorry the pain is so bad. Do you have something stronger than Tylenol to take for the pain? If you do, take it. I hope the pain is better very soon.

Many people gain their weight back after RNY and the lap band. The good thing about the band is that it can be adjusted to help you lose the weight again if you stick to the band rules. I work with a girl that had RNY and she lost 80 pounds. She has gained back 50 pounds because she did not learn to eat properly after surgery. Now she can eat all the foods she couldn't eat at the beginning. Both require hard work and determination to lose the weight and keep it off. Good luck with your decision.

Great e-mail Longhorn! Did you send this to your parents, brothers and sisters, in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins? I've only told my mom, sister, brother, cousin (had her stomach stapled years ago), 2 friends and my mom told my aunt. I'm sure my cousin told her parents and siblings which is ok. I really don't want everyone to know but I also don't want to hide it. I don't want them asking me about it everytime I see them.

Taking that step was very easy for me. Scheduling the surgery was difficult and I teared up. Just think of it as additional research. You don't have to schedule surgery that day. Just get info and see if you like the Doctor and his staff. That is also very important as you will be dealing with them a lot after surgery. Good luck!

I know. You are so right. I will start weening myself off of it. Today I've been much better. I've been drinking a lot more water. I know I will feel so much better without it. Thanks for the honesty. I really do appreciate it.

My doc just said to eat low carb until surgery. I decided to do liquids during the day and a light dinner at night. I'm hoping that doing liquids now might make it easier after surgery. I also have a handful of nuts as a snack. The scale is going down and I think that is the most important thing at the moment. I haven't given up my Diet Coke and I don't think I will until after surgery. I think I will miss it the most.

I am so glad that the first year of fills is included in my self-pay amount. It sounds like it could be quite expensive to get the right level of restriction. I'm sorry you are having to deal with that.

This is very interesting. I had no idea that could happen while flying. I don't fly very often but it is good to know.

Thanks for reminding me how important the pre-op diet is for the success of my surgery. I am on a low carb diet but the week before I am going to do protein drinks for breakfast and lunch and a light dinner at night. I need to change my life now. The band can only do so much and the rest is up to me. If I want this bad enough then I need to start right now.

I will be banded on 11/20. I pray I don't lose any hair. I asked my surgeon about it and he said only a few of his patients have complained about hair loss. My doctor doesn't require a liquid diet before surgery and we are only on liquids for 2 days after surgery. How many of you with hair loss was on a liquid diet for several weeks? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. It is just a thought. I have very thin hair now so if I lose any I will be in a wig. Of course, I would rather be thin in a wig than fat.

Congrats to all of you that have already had surgery! I hope you all recovery quickly and have no problems. My surgery is 2 weeks from tomorrow and I am very excited. I'm not nervous yet. I've been researching this for 2 years and reading posts here so I would know what to expect. It really helps to see how well you are all doing.
