Hi everyone, I am also being banded tomorrow. I am nervous but calm at the moment. I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet but I don't think that will be a problem. I have to be at the hospital at 6am. I am glad it is early so I can get it over with. Good luck everyone!

Scared to Get Skinny (My Surgery Story)
Skinny_Jill replied to steph_co's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Stephanie, I can totally relate. I am single and haven't been on a date in years. When I was thin men paid more attention to me and I dated quite a bit. I am also scared about my new life when I am thin. Dating is scary and a therapist once told me I was hiding behind my fat. I knew that I was but I didn't realize how many areas of my life it affected. The dating thing is a big one. I really want to meet the right guy and get married but I hate the dating process. Rejection is part of it as well. There are many issues to resolve during this new phase of our life but it will only make life better so it is worth it. -
Keeping it a secret?
Skinny_Jill replied to Fluffy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So far, only my mom, sister, brother, 2 friends, 2 co-workers and my boss know. I think my mom told my aunts and that is okay with me. My boss knew I was having surgery but I didn't tell him what it was until today and he was great. I knew he would be but I was still afraid to tell him. I feel much better now that he knows. I don't want others at work to know because I am afraid of the comments and my reaction. I am a very defensive person and it might get ugly. -
Vanessa, You have a great attitude. Good for you for starting to work out. I agree that it will help considerably.

Congrats and Welcome! I see you are a Cowboys fan. I am also a Cowboys fan and I believe they will go to the Superbowl. I live in Houston though so I am a bigger Texans fan. I have season tickets to the Texans. I love football! Good luck on your journey! Go Texans!

I am really getting excited. I talked to the Doc's office today and they have received my money so I am all set. I won't find out what time the surgery is scheduled until Monday. I hope it isn't too early because my mother and sister will have to get up so early and I hate being a burden on anyone. I'm pretty sure I've lost a few pounds on my low-carb pre-op diet but I haven't hopped on the scale yet. The way I look at it is the pre-op diet is to shrink my liver and the weight loss is secondary.

With RNY you might lose that 100 pounds faster but if you don't change your lifestyle you will more than likely gain it back. That means eating healthy and EXCERCISE. I know several people that gained 80% of their weight back. My cousin lost all her weight and has kept it off but she didn't lose her weight until she became very ill and had several surgeries due to malnutrition. Sure, she looks great but she is not healthy. By the way, she never excercised and still doesn't. I know it is a very difficult choice and I am just sharing my thoughts that helped me make my decision. Good luck!

Have date after 11 months of frustration!!
Skinny_Jill replied to aubrie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would tell them but not until after the surgery and give them time to adjust to the idea. It will be very difficult to hide and you might end up breaking the rules and that is not what you want to do. You won't enjoy yourself if your hiding this secret. I don't know how close you are to your family but I know I could never get away with hiding it. In the end whatever you decide I know it will work out. Just remember that this is your life and you have to do what is right for you. Good luck! -
I also went to Southwest Texas State but only for a year. I was there in 1986. I love San Marcos, it is beautiful.

Losing weight is the last thing on my mind!
Skinny_Jill replied to Longhorn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is so hard not to weigh yourself everyday. I know I am losing weight on my pre-op diet and had been weighing everyday but today I forgot because I was mad at one of the neighbor kids. I guess that is a good thing. Tomorrow's loss should be good as I am finally getting in all my Water. I keep telling myself that the goal of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver and the weight loss is just a bonus but that is hard to do when my main goal in this process is to lose weight. -
Congrats! It sounds like everything is going great for you. I am glad you are doing so well so quickly as I will have surgery on a Tuesday and be back at work on Monday. Keep checking in and letting us know how you are.

Go to Monthly Lap-Band support groups and join the November 07 group. It is great to here those already banded discuss their journey and for those of us not yet banded to discuss our feelings ask questions. Congrats on your decision.

On pre-op liquid diet...I'M STARRRVVVINGGG...I cheated :-/ ...I need support!!
Skinny_Jill replied to Whatnow24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My pre-op diet is low-carb. It isn't bad. I agree that if someone can't handle one day of liquids then they are going to have a very hard time post-op. None of the pre or post op diets are easy. If they were easy we wouldn't be having surgery to lose weight we would have stuck to the "easy" diet years ago. I don't think any of this process is easy on anyone. I believe that some have a better mind set than others and understand that the band doesn't do the work. Some think that the getting the band cures us of overeating the foods we love. I believe 95% of those banded still want the food we ate before and the true test is changing our lifestyle and eating healthier with the band as our support system to stop us from overeating on those healthier foods. In the end it is all up to us. Sorry to ramble. I think that was more of a pep talk for me reminding me of the journey ahead. -
Woo Hoo! I added our group name to my sig. Very cool!

I love November Nymphs. That is too funny! That is what I will be after I lose this weight. haha :kiss2:

Donna, Everything will be great! You are on your way to your new life. Enjoy that Pepsi. I am very upset about giving up my Diet Coke.
-
Congrats! I am glad you are doing so well. I am wondering the same thing about the Water. I am a gulper so I am going to have to learn to take small sips.

My doc only requires liquids for 2 days and then mushies for 4 weeks.

Doctors in Sugarland Texas
Skinny_Jill replied to Hastings's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I live in Sugar Land and will be banded by Dr. Spivak on 11/20. He is in the medical center but I believe he is the best lap band surgeon in Houston and that is more important to me than driving across town. Believe me, I hate the drive but it is worth it if you have a good surgeon. -
I am so sorry you got so sick. That is awful. Just remember that in the end it will all be worth it. I hope you are feeling better very very soon. Jill

I am back in college and the desks are small. I tend to lean forward to take notes and the desk hits my stomach in the area where the incisions will be. I can lean back and they won't touch but I am concerned that sitting in that position 6 days after surgery is going to be painful. What do you think?

Question for those banded more than a week
Skinny_Jill replied to Skinny_Jill's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've read that some people use benadryl cream around the incision to help with itching. -

Skinny_Jill replied to Whatnow24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My pre-op diet is a low carb diet. Liquid only would be tough but you can do it. Try and focus on the end result and on shrinking your liver for surgery. Good luck! -
I am so glad you are doing so well. I hope your trip home is good and you aren't in too much pain. Take care. Jill
