I would call your doctor's office and let them know. They should tell you what is best. I have a friend who developed a cold and her surgery was postponed...but better safe than sorry. -
Marilyn, I purchased the book online. Now I can't wait for it to come in the mail!!!!

Lap-band vs. Bypass? HELP!
4jin replied to Hemidrone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok I am returning to post...because I went to a mandatory support group meeting last night... yeah...not very supportive... the meeting moderator asked for people who have had or are planning to have lapband stand up...guess how many....3 including myself... then I happened to closer to the moderator so I was asked why I choose the lapband.... My response was "I choose what was right for me....I am young, want to have one more child in the future and don't want deficiency problems. I choose the rougher, tougher road....but it is what will work for me to develop the habits I need to continue this longterm..." I'll tell you .....the room just went quiet..... what... what'd I say? One would have thought I cussed. -
Aubrie, Did he tell you anything about the restriction. I read that it takes longer to feel the restriction on this new band. Is that true?

oH.....how about I want to be able to carpool and not have to sit in the front because I will squeeze someone in the backseat... LOL:omg: -
Weetsin, If I have to attend another one of those I will either be sent to jail or straight to ER...because I would either strangle someone or hurt myself:faint:I can't do it....Plus I didn't feel the love after my response to why I choose the band...
-
Aubrie good attitude....show them want you and your band can do for us all!!

HoosierDooula, Unbelievable isn't it. I felt the same way alone out on a limb for wanting the band. They had this lady there 2 months post-op and I felt bad for her after all the hard looks and questions she was getting. The lady that was running around with the microphone had RNY, but she asked everyone considering or has had lapband to stand up...guess how many only 3 including me and the girl answering questions. We all got the "look" I decided to take it like a grain of salt and just go with it... Until I was asked why lapband....I said "I choose what was right for me....I am young, want to have one more child in the future and don't want deficiency problems. I choose the rougher, tougher road....but it is what will work for me to develop the habits I need to continue this longterm..." I'll tell you .....the room just went quiet..... what... what'd I say? Once would have thought I cussed. Mouth?!///LOL Wow I guess that question is worst than the ones I had to hear!!!:speechles congrats on your 50lbs!!!!!!

I don't know if you might want this but I do.. I want my husband to pick me up and throw me on the bed and play around because he just can! (like he does with the kids) I want to wear a bikini and not have to hide my body. I want to wear really high heels and not worry that my ankles are not going to be able to balance the weight. I want to wear some of those "skinny" clothes I have been saving around because someday I promised I would wear them again. I want to be able to go into a clothing store and not feel discriminated against because of my weight by the sales person. I want know that when people are describing me they concentrate more on my features than saying you know the chubby ..... -
thanks guys for your info. valstar do you happen to live in georgia by any chance. Besides this website I really wanted to find a good support group. It is nice to develop personal relationships as well. I have met someone on this site who does not live too far. We have became PM buddies. And are providing support to one another. She has turned out to be a great friend. I guess what I am looking for to add is a couple of others, so we can share our experiences as we are going along the bandwagon ride. To whom might share their experience and help you know how to handle a situation when it happens. You know some things are just said in person and not written. (sight).... but 1 person nearby is better than none at all.

How important is it that the pre-op diet is liquid?
4jin replied to Fanny Adams's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor does not require a pre-op diet for people under a certain bmi. As I am considered a low bmi'er for surgery I am not required to. What he explained to me was that once you reach a certain bmi your liver starts to add fat-hence they refer it as a fatty liver and it tends to be heavy and bothersome when performing surgery. It can become dangerous as they have to keep flapping it, pushing it and moving it around in order to perform the surgery. In order to avoid that and assist to a faster recovery they place those candidates who are believed to have and enlarged liver on pre-op diets. He informed me it was up to me, but that yes it would help for a faster recovery if I opt to do a liquid diet. I choose to. He recommended until I have a surgery date to start replacing 1 meal a day with Unjury protein shake. Once my record is sent to the insurance to replace 2 meals. And 1 week prior surgery to replace the 3 meals per day. Add only green vegetables that are low glycemic index. And that is what I will do. I have purchased sample packets from unjury and to my surprise they taste great. (thank goodness) Welcome to the UNJURY Homepage hope this helps!
