Dr. Peter O'Brien in Sioux Falls??
spunky replied to gentlespirit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Emily, Hey there! I had Dr. O'Brien do my surgery in Sioux Falls in August. Can't say a whole lot about him other than I came out of surgery alive! The only problem that I have had with him is that I am a teacher and it is hard to get away from my job to go to Sioux Falls for my fills He usually only does fills on Tues. and Wed, hence the fact that it is hard for me to schedule I wish you luck, keep me posted! DId anyone cheat while they were in the mushy /soft food stage?
spunky replied to divaliciousdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wouldn't! When you are ready for the "bad" foods think to yourself why you had surgery and how you got to that point. Steak and rice are bad choices all together. You should stay away from red meat and rice. I felt the same you as you do, but you have to realize that this is a life change and it is time to make better choices! -
I "super-stocked up" on broth, juice, sugar-free freeze pops, sf jello, sf pudding, but don't make the same mistake I did. After two or three days of eating/drinking these things I had ODed on them. I also rented a ton of movies and bought many magazines, but I should have saved my money, all I wanted to do is sleep (especially the first week after surgery). Hope this helps!

Pain after eating..have you experienced this?
spunky replied to Apryl Showers's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded just over a month ago as well. I have the same issue. I will be in the middle of chewing and all of a sudden I get the sharp pain. I have learned to eat more slowly and chew better. By doing this I find that I eat less and feel satisfied without the discomfort. It is hard to do this because I am sticking to the "rules" and only eating 3 meals a day, but by the time it is time to eat I eat so fast because I am hungry. Just another thing I have to work on. -
I'm in! This morning I weighed 241 (down 19 lbs since surgery). By Nov. 14 my goal is to lose 16 lbs.

I was banded on 8/16/05. I will have my first fill on 9/30. I am curious about the "PB". I had an episode when I was eating mashed potatoes where I ate a few bites and it felt like a bowling ball was trying to go through the band and also like I had to puke, but I was able to keep it down. Please fill me in on the PB.

I was banded on 8/16/05 and went back to work today 8/21. I was a little tired after an eight hour day, but I felt fine all day.

Hey fellow South Dakotians! I live near Watertown. I was banded in Sioux Falls by Dr. Peter O'Brien last week on Aug. 16. I was feeling great and went back to work today 8/21 (I am a teacher so it's not a real strenuous job). My dr. has done over 200 surgeries. I hope you all keep doing great! I have to go back this Wed. to Sioux Falls to have my staples removed, so I will get my "official weight" then. So far by weighing myself at home I have lost 10 lbs, better than nothing!

Do You Still Enjoy Food Like You Used To?
spunky replied to thinkthin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey thinkthin! I know exactly how you feel. I was also banded on 8/16. The first two days I could careless to see, hear, or think of food. But...as I started feeling better the food started looking, smelling, and sounding good. I went back to school today (I am a teacher) and it was really hard to sit through the teacher luncheon just sipping on water. After being home for a week recovering I have thought about changing my profession and going back to college for political science. I would then defiately go to Washington DC and lobby to ban all food ads on television. No wondering why our nation is fat, look at our resteraunt/fast food commercials. Anyway...just a thought I had. Keep your head up and enjoy your "full liquids" this week. I just had a cup of lite fat-free choc. milk and it hit the spot. -
When the nurse called to inform me of my surgery date she said that it is recommended that I lose 10 lbs prior to surgery. I am scheduled for surgery on Aug. 16 and have been having a hell of a time losing anything. Is it "mandatory" that you lose the pre-op weight?
-
Why am I fat? Hmm... I eat when I am stressed, depressed, PMSing, family celebrations, lunch with friends, drinks and more drinks with coworkers. I wake up in the morning with food on my mind and go to bed at night hating myself for all that I ate. I always tell myself that tomorrow I will start dieting, but tomorrow always comes and goes. I am being banded on Aug. 16 and I am hoping and praying that this will help my issues with my weight.
