Eating regular food = DIFFERENT STORY!
gregthegroove posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right after surgery for the first week or so, while I was on liquids, I honestly thought the Dr did nothing to my stomach and I questioned if I'd ever feel restriction? The answer is YES. I can only eat a few bites and I'm really full. It's quite the difference! -
Amazed at some day one or two post op recovery stories
gregthegroove posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen a few people saying how they've walked a mile or did cardio, lifted light weights, drank 90 oz of Protein etc... On like day one or two at home. Am I just a wimp? I couldn't see how this is even possible with my one exit incision pain alone. I've walked lightly for ten mins at a time at most. How can some of you do this? It's crazy. Also didn't they have really detailed discharge info like absolutely no working out for two weeks minimum and liquids only for a week or so? I read a guy that had puréed chicken on day two with bad diarrhea.....well.....yeahhhhh. Stomach isn't even close to healing. SMH at some. I know we all deal with pain, but I dunno, I must be a wimp. HA! -

gregthegroove posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm now day 5 post op, feeling better and stronger every day....BUT.....Man, let me tell you, I know it's way early and I'm a NEWB, but it's exhausting to sip water all day long! It seems all I do is remember to drink liquids all day long and sip sip sip! -
Two weeks post op weight loss for me! Great start
gregthegroove posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, so two weeks post op for me and my official weight loss is 18lbs! Went in the morning of surgery at 333lbs and am now at 315lbs. I'm happy with my start so far and while I do realize the beginning weight loss is the most rapid, it gives me hope that I did the right thing and motivation to keep pushing through! Total weight loss pre op & post op together is 65lbs total I'd love to hear two week post op stories from others! Still in some pain/soreness from the main exit incision, but doing ok. -
Is this normal?
gregthegroove replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My incision felt like it was getting better as well and a couple days ago, I tried to play drums, it felt good but felt sore couple hours later. After a nights sleep, felt ok again in the morning. -
I've had the applesauce in those 4oz pouches and some banana blueberry purée. Fruit is probably all I'll have for now.

Worried I'm hungry! ONE WEEK OUT
gregthegroove posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all, I feel like I've been hungry since day 3 post op. One week out I can eat 5 oz of cream Soup and 4 oz of Greek yogurt in one meal, no problem. Is this normal at one week out? I'm following my stages of food. Just went one week with liquids only. I sometimes feel my stomach rumble and it feels like hunger pains to me. Will I feel restriction once I start eating more regular foods? I have the sleeve. -
Truth! What's the pain really like?
gregthegroove replied to sheavens's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain isn't that bad to be quite honest, although some people have more pain than others for a variety of reasons. Surgical technique, pain meds, pain tolerance etc...If I had to make one generalized comment about the pain, I'd say the worst for me is the main incision where they pull the stomach out. It was flat out painful for a few days and now has moved on to the tender/sore phase for me. sleeping was very tough for me that first night as I am not a back sleeper, so it took some adjusting. Every day is better than the last for sure. But that exit incision can be tender or sore for even up to two to three weeks even a month. I'm day 7 right now post op, and I was comfortable enough to stop pain meds on day 5 altogether and just once at bed time on day 4. -

Pureed stage
gregthegroove replied to XForeverYoursX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein sources during puréed stage: Greek yogurt, Protein shakes, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, unflavored Protein powder mixed into baby food fruit, applesauce, and in your crystal light. Protein shakes will be your best chance to get in a big amount (25g plus) -
Protien shake recommendation
gregthegroove replied to sheavens's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Premier protein shakes ready to drink from Costco. 30 G protein, 160 calories. Vanilla or chocolate. Taste pretty good. Not sure if you have Costco in Canada. If not, you must have GNC, Vitamin Shoppe or order online. Lots of great choices out there. Costco also carries a powder I got also. 27g protein, 140 calories. I believe by EAS. -

How necessary is this pre-op diet?
gregthegroove replied to Luana526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, by all means question everything. I questioned my dr too about why I had to follow a two week shake diet since I was below goal weight already. He then explained the whole liver thing. I'm just saying, learn to trust on why you need something the doc wants. It's in both your best interests. -

Well it's day 4 today and it's been better than day 3. Every day so far has been progressively better for me. Exit incision is still very tender and sore. Other four really don't hurt. Liquids going down smoothly, albeit I sip slowly still. Had jello, an 11 oz protein shake, and about 20 oz crystal light. I think I'll be able to get in the full 64 oz today. -
How necessary is this pre-op diet?
gregthegroove replied to Luana526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's different for every patients needs. I want to say almost ALL doctors will for sure do a one day to two day all liquid diet before surgery. The two week all Liquid pre op diet maybe a requirement for those that are obese or with a higher weight as surgery carries more risks with obese. The main reason is the stomach is located kinda behind the liver and following an all liquid diet will get your liver to use up all it's glucose storage and shrink down and make it less slippery to handle as well. It's a tight space in there so the docs need all the help they can get. Just follow your doctors orders, there's a reason and it's not particular your jobs to question. Not to mention, it's also good practice to get in a habit and routine. What do you think life will be like post op for two weeks? liquids, shakes and broths. -
Need a buddy that can help me
gregthegroove replied to anthonyb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should be able to drink 4-6 oz of liquids per hour to help get you to 64 oz. Right now I'm only on day 4 post op, so I'm just counting my two 11 oz protein shakes towards my liquid goal of 64 oz. So I try and get in 42 oz of liquids. It's not that hard if you always keep water or crystal light near you. I keep a big 33 oz Smart. Water bottle with me at all times. My goal is to finish one and a half of those before bed time. -

gregthegroove replied to 1Sleevecomingup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Luana, the stomach is located behind the liver sorta. The dr would like your liver to shrink so it's easier to navigate around it making the surgery safer for you. Be glad, I didn't even get one real small meal. I was on two weeks of all liquids only. I lost 10 lbs in two weeks. -

gregthegroove replied to gregthegroove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sweet, day 3 was much better for me. Your day two sounds like mine kinda. I was able to drink much better today. Apparently it gets better each day like this. Keep it up, in the end it will all be worth it! -
Sept 10 here....Today day 3 is a lot better for me. Seems I can take down more. Had my Breakfast of Jello and broth and just had my 10 oz Protein shake sipped it over about 70 minutes or so. Yesterday it took me all day to finish it. My right side stomach exit incision is the worst pain I have. At least I've only had to take pain meds once and it was half dose so far today. Going for a little walk soon. Seems to get a bit better every day out for me.

September Sleevers
gregthegroove replied to 1Sleevecomingup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my sleeve on Wed Sept 10. Got home on Thursday and was not a good night. I thought to myself over and over if I did the right thing. It gets better every day like 10%, slowly it really does get better. You gotta have pain meds when you go home and push for nausea meds in case. The worst part IMO has been the stomach exit incision pain. It's very, very sore. Get used to sleeping on your back! Walk, walk, walk! Good luck everyone!
