I'm very excited! I've made calendars for my liquids and mushies. I've started a "Lapband Box" with all the things I'll need during that week after my surgery. I'm getting ahead on my graduate work, so I won't be stressed that week. Thank goodness that 2nd graders keep my mind occupied! I did have a slight scare a couple of weeks ago. Dr. Carter's office called me at school, and I was so worried that something was wrong. They just had to move my surgery location from MCA to Surgical Center of Arlington due to contract agreements or something like that. Whew...I was okay with that. Same time, same date...different venue.

Be the better person though. Show them your success through your actions.......feeling awesome, wearing great clothes, being positive. Don't let them drag you down into their mind games. -
I'm so happy that the bump in the road smoothed out!!

Jazzy Junes 2008...What do you do? Where are you from?
TX Diva replied to Apples2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a native Texan. I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 20 years. I'm finishing up my 17th year of teaching elementary school. This is my 2nd year of teaching 2nd graders and I love it! -
Since my husband is taking off that week to take care of me, I'm making sure that HE knows where everything I might need is located. I've already started a lapband box so that I have it all in one spot for him. My friend who just had lapband surgery suggested that I buy some really loose undies because the elastic in all of hers really bothered her incisions. (She didn't want to go commando!)
-
I have the same insurance and I heard a week later also! My friend who is the secretary at the school I work at also heard within days. She was recently banded, so she is my resident expert! Good Luck on your surgery!

Less than a month away! Thoughts, feelings, pre op?
TX Diva replied to rearea1222's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In exactly a month from today I will be having my consultation with my surgeon. After that I am to go to the surgery center for my pre-op which will be bloodwork and a chest x-ray. That is also the day that I begin my pre-surgery liquid diet. I really haven't felt any fear yet, which means the reality of it all probably hasn't hit. I've never had ANY kind of surgery at all, so maybe my lack of knowledge is helping me not to fret. Also, my friend had the surgery on April 15th so I've heard lots of information from her. -
I'm so bad! I was picturing Scarlett gorging on food in her bedroom before being cinched tightly! I think I might need to go have another psych eval. now! :-) Thanks for the positive attitude and giving me a little giggle.
-
Yeah for you and your surgery date! I right clicked on the banner in someone's post and saved it to my hard drive. Then I went to my profile and uploaded it to my signature section.
-
I'll be on a clear liquids diet the week before the surgery to shrink my liver. For 5 days after the surgery I'll also be on a clear liquids diet until I heal. My doctor sells Protein shake mixes too, so when I go for my consultation I'll be buying some of that. I haven't had my "Last Supper" yet because I set another weightloss goal for May to keep from doing that. However, I keep telling my husband "This is probably the last time I can eat this."
-
I think that is a great idea! I've gotten into the habit of exercising and writing down what I eat because I had to do that for True Results to send to my insurance company. I never complained about having to do the 6 months of supervised dieting because in that 6 months I lost almost 30 pounds that have stayed off and I have changed some habits that needed changing. If I just went and got banded without working to give up soft drinks and rice, I don't think I would be successful.
-
I think that teaching adults would be a good gig. I currently teach 2nd grade and I love it, but I know I would NOT want to go any younger. Most of my career has been with 4th grade and that was really enjoyable. At least the week that you go back before Summer break, you won't have your student hugging on you because they missed you!
-
Jules, I'm a teacher too and am excited to have my date for the very first week available when my summer conference is finished. It's been awhile since I went to DisneyWorld, but I'm thinking it won't be too terrible hard to stick to your diet. I remember it was alot of action and walking and seeing things, and not much stopping for eating. Just stay hydrated.
-
That is AWESOME, Cathy! And you weren't pushed back too far.
-
I love checking the updated list every day! Thanks to whomever created the Jazzy Junes banner; it looks great. Next time you update the list could you please change my name to TX Diva? Don't go out of your way to do it though! Stoked and ready, TX Diva

I have BCBSTX TRS Activecare. I went through True Results and I had my approval letter in a week. I'm very pleased with how smoothly the whole six month experience went.
-
Yes, I do. I currently live in South Arlington and I grew up in Central Arlington.
-
I scheduled my surgery today. It will be on June 17th at Arlington Medical Center. I'm really happy that I won't have a long car drive to and from the hospital.
-
I scheduled my surgery today! I'm going to be banded on June 17th! I'm so excited. That is the week I really wanted to do it because the school year will be over, and I have a weeklong math workshop the next week. That will give me something to think about besides liquids and gas pains! I'm so glad to see that we are going to be Jazzy Junies! I like that!

Probably not. USMD is where I went to the seminar, so I initially thought I'd be having my procedure a couple of miles from my house. HEB is fine with me. I've made that trip monthly for the last 6 months. One of my friends just had lapband on the 15th and she swears she saw Dr. Carter while she was in recovery at the hospital on Matlock. Her surgeon was Dr. Harris or Harrison.
-
Mark, that is AWESOME! I've just been approved by my insurance and will be having my surgery done by Dr. Carter also. I'm just waiting on his office to call so we can schedule it. Did he perform the surgery at USMD or at the HEB location?
