  1. I was banded June 17th and am doing very well. I had way less pain than I had anticipated and never had that evil gas pain. I was able to sleep in my bed on my right side or back from day one! I have been following my doctor's diet to a T and am not feeling deprived or hungry. The Protein drink I have been using is AmazeRX because that's my surgeon's drink, and I really like it. I have no idea how much weight I have lost because I had my husband hide the scales. I go for my 2 week follow-up on July 1st and I'll find out then using the exact same scales I was on for my last pre-op weigh in. Plus, I didn't want to get disappointed when I got on the scales while I was still swollen and see a possible weight gain. This past week I was able to sit through a 7 hour 5-day math workshop without feeling pain. I also started riding my recumbent bike again and got up to 20 minutes a session. That has really pumped up my energy and feeling like I'm "normal" again!

    anyone else??

I saw this issue in another post somewhere. I'll look for it for you. Someone there mentioned ketosis, a chemical change of some sort in the body.

    Is this good weight loss??

I think you are doing great. You have lost weight that should be gone forever. Don't let other people compare you to others. We all lose weight at different rates!

    Post Surgery check in here

Hello all. I had my surgery Tuesday morning. It went much easier than I expected. I arrived at 7 am, was rolled into surgery @ 8:56, Dr. Carter told my family I was done @ 9:56 and I got home @ 11:40. I kept an ice pack on my port site most of the day. Other than that I don't have much pain. I did have some heartburn in recovery that got a bit better when they sat me up. I was able to sleep in my bed last night instead of the chair as I had planned. Today I'm feeling the "I've done a billion situps" discomfort in my stomach, but that is something I can deal with.
  6. I went through True Results in Hurst, and I agree with Vicky. They told me exactly what I needed to do and where to go to get it done. I was also approved the first time and will have my surgery tomorrow.

    Post Surgery check in here

I actually had hubby hide my scale. I'm totally going to go cold turkey. I figure that I'll reavaluate that decision after my 2 week follow-up. I'd like to be able to just base it after that on how my clothes feel.
  8. June 30th will be here before you know it! My surgery is the 17th. I'm going to be cleaning house the next 3 days so I can just rest next week!

  9. I had no idea that I had a friend request! I'm so stoked!!! You are my first lapband friend! Thanks!

Cathy and livn4Jesus, I'm so glad that you guys are doing fine! Thanks for letting us know! Livn, anything you want to write, I'll read even if I've read it before!:biggrin2: The first thing I do every morning is see how my fellow June Banders are doing! Take care, TX Diva

    Post Surgery check in here

Thanks for the update Long2bthin! I think it's a great idea having a centralized place for updates. I think I'm going to tell Dr. Carter he needs to suck as much gas out of me as possible like your surgeon! The only thing I'm really nervous about is that left shoulder pain that so many people talk about.

    50+ Bandster Post-Op Report

Thanks for the update. I'm so glad you are doing well! Wow! You went to the movies on Day 3! I'm impressed. I'm so planning on just walking, sleeping, surfing the web and doing some graduate work for the 1st 3 days.
  13. Seeing a 2 in the hundreds place has been a goal of mine for months now. When I started this process I weighed 350 pounds. I was hoping for 300 or less by my surgery, but unless I lose 17-22 pounds in 10 days I won't make it. That's okay though because I was in the 330's and above for longer than I can remember!

    On the new road!

I'm so glad you let us know that you are done and fine! I hope your pain and gas diminish soon! Woo Hoo! Lortabs! Codeine makes me goofy...love it!

    It's really REAL!!!

Oh my goodness! Don't apologize for rambling! I'm exactly 10 days away from surgery and I am hanging on every single word that everyone has written about their experiences! Thank you for posting!!!
  16. Okay. I got my Post-Op sign finished for my fridge. This last week of school was CRAZY! I found out that I was switching classrooms at the last minute and then 3 of my students and myself got the flu! I had fever and chills on my teacher workday! (At least I wasn't able to eat much!!!)

Hopefully this will be a good template for you, and hopefully you can change it as needed.

Whoa....as I type this I see that there is no place to do attachments! If you'll send me your email address or just write me at txdiva66@sbcglobal.net I'd be happy to send you the document.

4 more days until my liquid diet begins! 11 more days until our surgeries!

  17. What a good hubby! That was the perfect, supportive response! I went grocery shopping today for my items for my liquid diet. Dude, I have never spent 20 minutes looking over broth, stocks, and Soups before! The hard part will be that I have 2 teacher workshops next week, and teachers in my district are infamous for making sure we go to excellent restaurants for lunch since we are stuck brown bagging it or eating school lunches most of the time! I'll have to bring a really good book and find a park to hang out in for lunch! Thanks for your post. I'm going to remember it when I have to push through cravings!

    1 day out

Thanks for posting ladies! I'm so glad that things went well. It makes me less nervous and more excited for my upcoming surgery! There are a lot of Jazzy Junes being banded before me, and I look forward to reading all the posts!

What to do when you want to eat??

I work on my graduate work, play Wii games, or play around on the internet. I can start doing a web search and lose an hour! Sometimes I hop on the recumbent bike and watch TV. School is about to let out, so I'll have extra hours of time to deal with. I might have to beef up (no pun intended) my anti-eating activities!

    Is it mental???

I think it is partly mental, but I think it's a good thing. I don't start my liquid diet until June 10th, but I've already decided that I'm having a SlimFast every day for lunch to get prepared. I've also noticed that there are things that I just don't want to eat that I loved eating before, and that my portions are smaller. I think my brain is helping me cope with the changes that I have been working on for 6 months to prepare for this. I really expected my brain to start sabotaging me at this point instead of seeming to help me. If I'm mental, so be it! I'm glad to see that someone else is feeling it too. Remember that you have also been doing physical things to prepare for this day too!
  22. Carrie, I don't think I'd be able to eat if my surgery wasn't until 2pm! I think I'd be too nervous to begin with. Maybe if you plan something right now it won't be too bad. Like rent a really good movie, or play some games on the computer. Maybe even spend some time looking at success stories here in the forums! I'm feeling very fortunate that my surgery is @ 7:30 am! If I can sleep the night before I won't have too much down time to fret that day.

    Scheduled for June 17th

Hey there Jennifer, I'm a teacher too and my date is also June 17th! I could have had it done this month, but I didn't want to do it during the school year. My nutrionist gave me a list of foods I could eat pre-op and post-op until I'm healed. I have a hand-written calendar and list that I'll be typing up this weekend. If you want to see it, I'd be happy to send it your way when it's finished. I'm so list-oriented, I feel like I want a calendar and list taped to my fridge to remind me exactly what I can have and on which days. We are out of school on June 3rd, so I'll have a few weeks to fret! Donna

    Sharing that you're having surgery

I've told a few people at work, so I'm sure that more people on my campus know about it. My assistant principal had the gastric bypass surgery two years ago, and everyone was very supportative of her. The secretary at my school just had lap band a few weeks ago, and everyone is very encouraging to her. She kept it very hush hush until after the fact. So many teachers at my campus do Weight Watchers, Curves, South Beach, etc. that we have an encouraging environment. A couple of people I'm closer to have told me that they can't wait to see me when we come back next summer! That should be fun. The only people I am not telling are my students. I'm not sure what I'll say to them next year when they see that their former teacher is much thinner. They do know that I'm dieting and exercising and that I've been to the doctor a lot this year, so they will probably just think that I was very diligent this summer. This class has been so good and concerned that I didn't get hardly any candy for Valentine's Day!

    Anyone in the DFW area?

Thank you SO much, Mark! I'm really excited that someone that has done such a wonderful job losing weight used the same doctor. Yes, Hubby is excited. He has been there every step of the way with me. He really liked Dr. Carter when we attended the seminar, and that was important to me. I'm staying away from the last meal mentality to keep me from overdoing it right before my surgery. Instead, I have made another weight loss goal to achieve by the end of the month. I do find myself saying "This might be the last time I'll eat__________"
