How Much Have You Lost So Far?

Congratulations, Snuffy! :smile2: Yes, you are definately on the right path.

    It's the Strangest Thing...

I burped all the time before my surgery. I would try to say "Battlestar Galactica" or the names of people in the room. I was the champion burper. Now I have these little, delicate, petite flower burps that I have no idea are coming. I guess it's because I don't drink soft drinks anymore! The weirdest thing that has happened so far is that if I have sort of a craving (which is nothing like the cravings I used to get) I want some cottage cheese! Cottage cheese? That would have been the last thing I would have reached for before my surgery.
  3. I might be under 300 pounds as I type! I'll find out for sure next Tuesday. When I went to my 2 week post-op appointment, I weighed in at 303 pounds! I was 328 3 weeks earlier on the same scales! I have had hubby hide the scales so I don't weigh in every day. Tuesday will be exactly 1 month after my surgery, and I don't care what the number is as long as it begins with a 2! That is my next number goal! This would be the first time in YEARS and I'm hopeful! My Wii Fit already has me under 300, but since the balance board sits on carpet I've found that it weighs about 5-7 pounds lighter than my doctor and home scales. So, I use it for BMI but not weight.

Does anyone else have a Wii Fit? I just got one yesterday, and it is so much fun. I'd love to hear from someone else that will be/is using it regularly.

    Diet Pills

It is discouraging to gain weight when you are working hard, but this could be temporary. Are you about to start your period? How about your clothing? Are they getting looser? I know we hate to hear it, but muscle does weigh more than fat. That new muscle will raise your metabolism and burn that fat as you exercise.

You will find new comfort foods. I've had pizza at least once a week for the past year! I have not had pizza since June 10th when I started my pre-op diet, and I have not craved it one time! I have discovered this cottage cheese that comes in a small cup that I just love! Who would have thought that I would want a quarter cup of cottage cheese over pizza!! I did the same thing....moaning over the things I loved to eat, but when I'm bending over and painting my own toenails for the first time in years, I don't miss it at all! The liquid diet is scary until you get into a couple of days of it. I was very strict on myself and got through it. It didn't hurt that the Protein shake mix I bought from my doctor is delish!

    Daily News!

I just purchased a bike from Walmart. I did some research online at Walmart, Target, and Overstock.com before I went to the store. I'm not ready to go to the local bicycle shop yet and spend more than $300. I tried on several bikes before going with the Schwinn Sidewinder. It's a part of their line that is created for women. It was $150, so it was one of the midpriced bikes. I haven't ridden it much because I didn't get cleared from the doctor to ride it until just recently and now we have thunderstorms. :wink2: It seems very sturdy and it's easy for me to get off and on. It has more gears than I wanted, but I'll just have to learn!

    Wii Fit

It has really been motivational for me. I've been riding my recumbent bike, but not doing any strength or stretching exercises. I get up, check my blood sugar, get on the Wii Fit and do the daily body test. I can really tell a difference in my balance in just the couple of weeks I've been doing it! Then I do at least one activity from each section. That's enough to get my body moving for the day. As soon as the muggy scattered thunderstorms move on I'm going to get on my new "real" bike! I haven't had a bike in years! My Wii Fit goal is to get across the tight rope! I stink at that. Today I got to the box or whatever is blocking the path and I freaked out and fell off! I didn't even know there was anything to jump over since I've only gotten 8 yards before today!

    Troublesome Foods?

I thought I'd be so excited to buy "real foods" but I'm really still liking my cottage cheese and Protein shakes! I too have been cautious. Today I had spaghetti sauce with ground beef...yum! It was hubby's idea that I have a small bowl of that and he had his on Pasta. The problems I've had so far have been with chicken and pecans. I had a chicken tender (yes, it was fried...my most naughty moment so far) and the meat was dry. I chewed like crazy and had taken small bites, but I got an odd pain in my chest. I walked around the room and took a sip of Water and it was okay. Same with the pecans. I had one and chewed it like crazy, but something about the texture still gave me that little pain and tightening. I also had a water scare. After a 30 minute recumbent bike ride I grabbed a water bottle and before I thought about it I took a BIG swig! Before I swallowed it all I thought "Holy crap this is going to hurt." I was able to hold it in my mouth and just let a little bit go down at a time and it was fine.

Jazzy Junes First Fill Line up

Not too much yet. I'm being very strict with my diet so that I don't fall back into old habits. I'm also setting mini goals to meet, so that I don't think about not having restriction. Also, I mentally picture a little pouch before I eat and that is really helping.

What will YOU eat on the 4th of July?

That sounds awesome! Thanks for the recipe!

I'm scheduled for a fill on September 17th; exactly 3 months after my surgery dat.

What will YOU eat on the 4th of July?

Actually, for the past couple of years I've tried not to associate food and major holidays. A local museum has an Impressionists exhibit on loan from a Chicago museum and my husband and I are planning on seeing that and then going geocaching.

    Wii Fit

NavyWifeJenn, I got a hint from a Target worker that I might want to try on Sunday. So at 7:45 am, my huband and I got in line (about 7 people were there before us). At 8:00 when they opened, they ushered us all right to the electronics and checked us out right there. I bet if I had been there at 8 am when it opened it would have been too late. You might call and ask when your local Walmart or Target MIGHT be expecting one and see what they tell you.

    Daily News!

I went for my 2 week post op checkup today and I've lost 25 pounds since my surgery! I also got my first fill appointment. It will be September 17th; exactly 3 months after my surgery. That is way later than anyone else has talked about, but for now I'm okay with that. The more willpower I have, the more successful I'll be in the long run. I am not feeling great hunger nor having cravings, so if it stays like this I'll be okay.

    The Weirdness

I also take Metformin. I haven't had a problem yet with my halves going down, but I haven't been filled yet either! I have a pill crusher, but yuck, those things are bitter. I don't always remember to take my evening one, but whenever I check my blood levels they are right where they need to be. I would definately call your PCP and see what he says. I was a grazer before. I'd walk past the kitchen and grab chips or almonds or Cookies. It's been tough, but I've really had to be strong. My new "craving" is cottage cheese. I would have laughed in your face and smacked you with a slice of pizza if you had told me that two months ago. You need to go shopping and have quality stuff on hand. I have so much Soup, sugar free pudding and Jello and yogurt around that I'm not having to worry when I really really feel the need to have something to eat. I bought some little square sushi or dessert plates at Target for 99 cents each and those are my plates. I also bought a 6 pack of colorful, plastic baby spoons that actually look like toothbrush handles. It helps with the portions. Instead of moaning over the amount of food I'm missing out on I look at the plate and say "Hey, look how little satisfies me!" (EVEN if I DON'T feel that way!)

I have crunchy knees...does that get better after losing weight?

I went to my PCP and said the same thing. "I have a crunchy knee." He sent me to an orthopedic surgeon who told me that I have arthritis in that knee and a loss of cartlidge. He told me that the first thing to do was to lose weight and exercise, and if that didn't help we'd work from there. He suggested swimming, Water aerobics or biking, so I purchased a recumbent bike. It still aches at times and crunches at times, but with the exercise and the weight I have lost so far, I do feel a difference. I still can't get on the floor and back up again, but I can walk longer distances and stand better. I don't think I'll every feel 100% again, but I'm hoping that with every pound I lose I get closer to normal.

    Wii Fit

I don't like wearing shoes while working out either. I never wear shoes on my recumbent bike. While you are enjoying your Colorado summer outside, I'll be staying out of the hot Texas heat! Then in the fall and winter I'll be playing outside while you're inside! :biggrin2: I didn't realize you could do Wii Fit with other people. That would be way cool! I have played Guitar Hero with other people, so it makes sense one could work out together too!

    Daily News!

I'm taking a break from doing the same thing. I have pulled EVERYTHING out of one side of my closet to sort. I have the IT FITS NOW pile, the ITS A BIT SNUG pile, ITS WAY TOO SMALL pile, ITS TOO BIG pile and the WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS I THINKING WHEN I BOUGHT THAT pile! The too small stuff goes in my computer room closet, the too big pile goes to Good Will along with the what was I thinking pile. I know that I'll have to do it again right before school begins in late August, but it feels good to organize it now. I found stuff I haven't worn in 2 years that will look great when the year starts! It's like shopping for free! Because I'm blogging and taking pictures as I go, I'm not keeping any of my big girl stuff except for my benchmark outfit and my tie dyes. I'll probably keep those until they fall off!
  23. Hi there. I saw your post in the mentor's section. I was recently banded by Dr. Richard Carter in Arlington. His office is in USMD and I know that he has seminars there. I'm very happy with my choice, so there's another lead for you. My friend used Dr. Jason Harrison, also out of Arlington, and she has also been very pleased. Here are some links:

    Not gonna weigh myself!!

I had my husband hide the scales before my surgery so that I wouldn't worry about my weight, and just worry about healing. It's been great not being a slave to the scales. I know I've lost weight because I can feel it in my clothes and see it in body changes. The plan was to be weighed by my doctor tomorrow at my 2 week follow-up. Those are the last scales I was weighed on anyway. Those plans got slightly changed when I bought a Wii Fit yesterday. The program figured out my weight and BMI. I'm not using those numbers as "real" though. I want to see what the surgeon's scales say! I'm thinking that the scales can stay hidden and I'll let the Wii program track my progress through the activities.
