100 Lbs. Post Op.
hsbeach replied to Big Wave Dave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Still waiting on the answer to the sex question!!! That's a heck of a motivator! -
I've been on my all liquid 2 week pre-op requirements for 2 days now. The first day was terrible inasmuch as my blood sugar dropped dangerously low to 47. Yesterday was better, but my problem is still getting enough protein. Because of the severe drop in blood sugar, I have not taken insulin in 24 hours and my blood sugar levels are great. My physician and my endocrinologist are consulting as to how much insulin I should take. Fun fun fun. Good luck to those having the surgery. I'm scheduled for 1/8/08.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
hsbeach replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started my two week pre-op liquid diet and had a pretty bad scare yesterday. I have Type II diabetes and last night, I was feeling really weird. I checked my blood sugar and it was at 47. Very low. I called my regular Dr and he said to do what you have to do to get the sugar level up, including eating some bread. I did. I'm waiting on my endocrinologist to decide how much insulin I should be taking now. I feel much better today and my blood sugar is back to normal. -
I am about 3 weeks prior to surgery (Jan. 8) and I've been trying to limit my intake to mostly liquids. As I was getting some hot water in to drop some Chicken boullion cubes in, I noticed that although they are low in calories, they are very high in sodium. Something like 1100 mgs! Should I be concerned by the high levels of sodium?

It's 3 weeks before my surgery and I'm an emotional wreck. I'm not scared (much) about the surgery. I'm actually looking forward to getting it done. I've been on a pretty strict diet for over a month (700-900) calories and I've been sticking to it about 90% of the time. I'm exercising 6-7 days a week. Still I feel like crap. I'm sad, I'm fighting with all my loved ones, etc. Basically, I'm an emotional wreck. I'm just wondering whether anyone has had these experiences. Could it be from the drastic diet. I feel like I'm a drug addict going through withdrawal. I hope this ends soon.

I will be banded in about 3 weeks and I'm already feeling the downs. My Dr. has me on a very low number of calories a day. I've come to realize that I'm having withdrawal symptoms very similar to one who is trying to quit drugs, alcohol or smoking. I do have to say that on a positive note, my blood sugar level is terrific! Don't worry, things will get better.

My fat fairy keeps passing by my house, just like Santa and the tooth fairy.

I had a sleep study done and it determined that I stop breathing 37 times every hour. That is extremely dangerous. I have a CPAP machine and my lovely and patient Wife says I no longer snore. I'm also hoping that losing weight will alleviate the need for the mask. Hang in there!

Hi: I'm actually about 3 weeks from surgery, but I was wondering whether you were told to go to all liquids for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. Thanks Howard

Anyone out there near Maryland or Washington, DC

Hi, I'm Howard. I am scheduled to have the surgery at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville. Anyone had the procedure done there or by Dr. Cynthia Long? -
Today, I tried the Unjury Chicken Broth and I did not like it as much as the other flavors. The Chocalate and Vanilla are great. The unflavored really is, with no bad aftertaste.

Good luck with your surgery. I'm scheduled for January 8, 2008. That's less than a month away!

I am scheduled for Lap Band Surgery on January 8, 2008. I'm starting to get VERY nervous. Since my first appointment with my Dr. (10/29), I've lost 20 pounds. I weigh 237 pounds. My goal is 165 pounds. Howard

Has anyone tried SPIRU-TEIN protein drinks?

Hello Everyone About a month ago, I finally decided that I was sick of feeling lousy all the time, tired of always being tired, sick of wearing a mask to bed because of sleep apnea, taking shots for my diabetes and taking a large number of pills daily. With my family Dr's help, I have decided to get all the paperwork together for the lap-band procedure. I'm hopeful to have the surgery in January. I will find out the exact date in a few days. My problem is my Wife. I don't think that she is being very supportive of my decision to have the lap band procedure. Her first response when I asked her to be supportive is "How do you want me to support you?" I really didn't have an answer to this. I also think that she doesn't think that I can lose and keep the weight off. Like most, I've done the dieting thing many, many, many times. Some diets were successful at first in dropping the pounds, but like many, I've gained it back plus. I was very disappointed by her response. I think that she even felt bad too especially after I told her that I was disappointed and I would find support from someone else. Just for the record, my Wife is an absolutely wonderful person. And for good or bad, she tells the truth even though the truth may not be the answer that you were hoping for. Maybe its my fault because I had not given her examples of how she can support me. I have not taken this decision lightly. I would rather NOT have surgery. I wish that the previous diets worked and that I would be healthy again. This is a drastic decision that I have made (to have the surgery). I've started to exercise and eat much better. I'm not perfect, but I'm much better. I've lost about 12 pounds since the 3rd week of October. I just hope that she will come around and be as supportive as I hope that she would be. Anyone have any similar situations? How did yu deal with less than 100% support from your family members? Howard

Is there a link somewhere (either in this forum or somewhere else) where there's just various recipes for each stage?

MD Lap-Band Support Group Meeting
hsbeach replied to Crystalstar11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in the process of getting my paperwork together to enable me to have the surgery done. My surgeon will probably be Dr. Cynthia Long. She has an office in Olney, MD. Has anyone heard of her? -
Hi everyone. My name is Howard and this is my first post. At my 10 year high school reunion (many years ago), one of my classmates walked up to me and said, "Boy did you get Fat!" My response was "Oh, really? See I have one of those carnival mirrors in my house and I thought that I was 8 feet tall and really skinny?" He looked at me and tilted his head (like a dog would) and I walked away.
