    Back to Running

I can't run outside in the cold. I get a horrible cough for the rest of the day whenever I try. My lungs HATE the cold air! That's why I don't schedule any races until April at the earliest. Even in April, it's sometimes only in the upper 30's or low 40's in the early mornings. Why are races always at ungodly hours like 7:00 am? They want the race crowd out of the way for the bulk of the day. I got a face mask that helps me with my runs in cold weather.. I'm good until it hits about 35..

I very much believe, though, that where our calories come from matter.

    What is your height @@foodfighter78
  6. I have suffered from major depression and anxiety most of my life. I've been on quite a few different meds to help, but not one of them has ever helped. However, in the last 2 months since surgery I have been eating less and exercising much more…and guess what? My depression has been much better. Exercise VERY much improves depression. My Husband suffers, and when he isn't running every day, I notice it.. when he stops for a week or more, the mood in our house is horrible.. Since he has been constantly at it, he is like a different person. We spent 10 years together, and him suffering from it, before I saw how much running helps him.
  7. My husband said losing weight/having surgery wouldn't make me happy.. and surgery wasn't the entire fix.. but being able to run 5 miles without stopping has made me HAPPY.
  8. Congrats! You are such a sweetheart.. always positive.

    Getting enough calories

That was what I was thinking since body builders drink higher carb shakes, but since she can't drink Boost then I would think she may have a similar reaction to higher carb shakes. True, but you can find some that have higher calories, and not so many carbs. Boost has a lot of sugar too i think. Or maybe if its sipped all day. I would say that there are lots of bodybuilders who are in prep mode that keep their calories higher but carbs are usually watched.Isopure has an unflavored no carb protien powder. It has 25g of protien per scoop. And you can mix it with literally anything. I've mixed it into coffee, soup, etc. Any idea on the calorie count? I think she needs a higher calorie count though.

What body type do you have after your weight loss?

    I'm going to say oval.
  13. I started at 314. I am definitely addicted to foods. At 10 months out, I can eat without restriction, so I would agree with him, if you don't think you can be disciplined after, then the bypass would probably be best. There have been times I wish I would have went ahead with RNY.

  15. My BMI has went from 52 to 33. Still considered Obese.. but MAN! 3 more points to just being overweight!

      OKCPirate

so I don't know if my BMI will ever be "normal". BMI is a quick screening tool, but far from perfect. https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/does-weight-matter/

Doesn't it feel good to be so close to just overweight? I'm there too and can't wait to be out of the obese range.

I don't have any issues consuming it.. which is why I know I need to really watch myself.. or I'll be back in my pre-surgery boat.

    Getting enough calories

First off.. You aren't disgusting in any way, shape or form.. so stop telling yourself this. Secondly, you definitely need to up your calories, probably to 2000 or more, that is normal for most people to maintain, esp. women. At 1600, that is really a deficient caloric intake for you.. Can you post a normal meal schedule and what you usually eat? You could also go to GNC or another local health food place and get a weight gainer shake. Add 1 to your normal meal schedule.

    Getting enough calories

What about a higher calorie protein shake? You could have one weight gainer shake, which would help your calorie/protein and carbs..

    Burger and Fries

Hmm. Seems like a lot at 4 months.. esp if you are eating the bun.. I will tell you that I can eat a lot more SLIDER foods (buns, fries) now at 10 months post-surgery than I could at 4 months. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy things like this also, but I really, really try to limit those times. Maybe once in awhile.. once a month? So I'm not trying to shame you, or anything, but to me, that is alarming at only 4 months out. Try to push those Proteins and veggies. A slider with no bun, and steamed veggies, or salad would be much more "smart". The bad choices will get easier and easier and happen more frequently.

    Distance Running

I'm finally able to run (I've always wanted to be a runner!!) and I'm increasing my distance slowly.. 4-8 miles at a time. I would like to complete a half this year. I really want to run the Disney Princess race next year.. I've been saying that for like 5 years since I first heard of it!

    Running

I try to drink my protein drink within 30 minutes of working out. Then lots of water.
  22. It truly becomes a choice.. Every bite.. Every meal.. Do you want to be healthy or do you want to regain. I work out a lot.. But I still have to watch everything I eat
  23. Had a 100 mile run goal for December.. I have 3 days left and I'm only at 52 miles for the month, however, I am STOKED and AMAZED that I ran that much. I don't think I ever ran more than a mile in a month in the past!

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

You know what I'm finding-- the clearances deals in the plus size section are far better then the clearances deals in the 'regular' section. Maybe stores try to rid themselves of that stuff faster?? I find overall prices to be cheaper in regular sizes myself.. no more $45 dollars for a shirt that looks ok.. I can get $10 shirts at target, and they look good.
