How Do You Get Yourself Out the Door to Exercise?
Chrystee replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I've heard a lot of people say that, and after that first 1/2 or first full they are addicted. One of my major goals in life is to complete an ironman. I'm far from that, but I know I will do it. I also want to be an ultra runner. -
How Do You Get Yourself Out the Door to Exercise?
Chrystee replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have a family of four; spouse, and an 8 year old and 2 year old, so life is hectic, so I fit it in when I can. I almost always do something at lunch, I run home and run my dogs for 30 mins. Not only is it good for me, but its good for them.. Then I am an avid cyclist, so I'm always looking for afternoons after work where I can fit in an 15-25 mile bike ride.. Sometimes I cycle at lunch. I also love lifting and crossfit. I've started building my garage gym, so sometimes, once the kids go to bed at 830, I'm in the garage doing a WOD. I feel like there isn't enough time to get my exercise in! I'm always planning out my week on Mondays so that I can fit my workouts in. I average 5 days a week. I've also found that making friends in the gym helps tremendously.. Its can be social time for me. I have a group who works out every Saturday morning at 8am, and a cycle group that cycles together on sunday evenings. I have found that people are GREAT at finding excuses not to exercise.. I've had friends who "need" to work out and its been 4 years since they were going to start. -
How can I get my family in my corner?
Chrystee replied to ♥dreamable's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have the same problem with some of my friends and family. They told me to man up and just exercise and stop taking the "easy way out". I want to ask them, "Which part of removing 75% of my stomach do you think is easy? The pain? The discomfort? The stress of changing of every aspect of my life? The having to watch every single thing that I put into my mouth? The risk of Vitamin deficiency? The giving up of all of the foods I love? The feeling like an outsider when everyone around me is having fun eating and drinking? The having to relearn my body and how to eat? I've done very diet known to man, and taken every pill. I've done exercise, and lost 50 or more pounds multiple times only to gain 60 or more back. I'm tired of the roller coaster and I want it to end once and for all. I have emotional support from a few close friends and family, but most of my support comes from this website. So hang in there man. I'm here if you want to talk. My advice for the difficult family members is to avoid them temporarily until you are done with the process and are losing weight. They can't argue with results. I love it.. Man up and exercise. I used to bike 20 miles, do crossfit for an hour ever day, etc.. and still couldn't lose. Sometimes, you just NEED help. Because they don't understand it. They don't understand how someone "lets themselves" get to this point to where they need surgery. -

Exercise has always been a hobby, but now I can push myself further and further than I could. I always wanted to be able to, but physically couldn't do all I wanted to do. I love cycling.. Always wanted to be a runner and could never run more than 3-5 minutes at a time, now I can run almost 2 miles without stopping. I want to be a triathlete.. I love crossfit, weight lifting.. I love extreme sports.

How can I get my family in my corner?

What I would do is not talk about it to those family members. You aren't really going to change their minds until they see the results. You don't need to really broadcast your business.. just go do it, and when they say something good about it later, say oh yea, I had surgery.. If you have any complications or issues at all, they will blame everything on your surgery. -
I wish I had some of that "want".. it is the furthest thing from my mind. I never had a big drive, but its completely gone right now.

Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?
Chrystee replied to Thinside's topic in The Gals' Room
Not a joke girl! You are wearing that little dress!!! You look fabulous! I just took my granddaughter out roller skating last Saturday. It felt so good to move my body and not feel like a lump! As for more clothes, I received coupons in the mail from Bon-ton for $100 in clothes, shoes and makeup. The orange dress I bought for $11, the black skirt is pleather and has long fringe. Cost me $8.80, also picked up 3 pairs of shoes for $5.95. I keep getting coupons for $10 off $10, or $30 off $30 for Kmart or Sears. Only condition is that they can't be clearance. So, the rest of the coupons I'm getting underwear and socks for the homeless shelters. My style is still evolving...skinny jeans, wide leg, it's whatever I look in the mirror and think...Dang, look how far you've come. And "I ain't finished yet" That orange dress is so flattering!! I can't tell ya'll what a relief it is to be able to shop in any store. It is such a freeing feeling. -
Why can't I lose weight without surgery?
Chrystee replied to TXhappyday's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I asked my surgeon.. and he said even Doctors don't know why.. they have no idea why some people can eat pure junk food every day, for every meal and have no weight gain, or any other problems, and others struggle to eat right, and cannot lose the weight.. so don't put so much pressure on yourself. Like someone else said, in a year.. everything will be different. -
I use a polar FT4 and have used it for swim.

Chrystee replied to Indieflickers's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I track my exercise with mapmyrun and myfitnesspal.. I cycle, run, walk, row, crossfit, strength train.. love it all.. Go on bodybuilding.com to find good strength plans. -
Good point.. My husband loved me being large, and wasn't really on board with surgery, but supported my choice.
-
Mine sounds similar.. Man, trying to get emotion out of him.. is like pulling teeth.. but he shows me in different ways.. My husband is not an asshole at all.. He had a horrible childhood and (maybe you weren't talking about him) but giving compliments comes so hard for him. It used to frustrate me.. but I realized he just is who he is.
-
@@jess9395 I can't eat right before a high intensity workout.. Maybe 1.5-2 hours before and no sooner.
-
My husband also struggles with compliments. It is so hard for him.

By 4 weeks I was back to my pre-op workouts, lifting heavy weights, running and cycling.. At this point, if walking is doing well, try adding small bursts of jogging.. 30 seconds every 2-3 minutes.. do that for 30ish minutes.. and after a week or two, increase your jogging time..
-
It doesn't necessarily have to be first thing in the morning either.. I experience this on any workouts I do that are over an hour or hour and a half, and when I work out really hard.. If I don't have much to eat before, I may be really hungry after, but a bite of food and i'm really full.

I'm a pretty big cycling fan.. My preference for bikes is Specialized.. I have 2 road bikes and a mountain bike. I love road cycling.. that's my passion. right now is a great time to buy a bike, as most bike shops will be getting rid of their 2015/2014 models and should be on sale. Any good name brand will be great. Make sure your shop includes things.. like I've bought all mine from a local shop, rather than a big name shop because they include yearly maintenance and discounts for life of my bikes.. where big name stores only sell the bike. I've never had a nutrition issue, but now that I'm getting longer and longer rides (50 miles) I'm starting to fizzle out towards the end of the ride too. My last ride was only 20 miles, but pretty big hills and it was very hot and humid (91*) and I had to get a Gatorade after my ride because I was feeling dizzy and lightheaded..
-
I've been riding since I was 310# and I had no problem. I couldn't have just gotten on a bike and started off though, I had been riding for years..

I HATE exercising! What Should I do?!
Chrystee replied to Sunshine3073's topic in Fitness & Exercise
You have to sort of "get over" not liking it. I used to hate it years and years ago. You have to find what you love to do. I found biking and cycling.. crossfit.. hiking.. kayaking.. there are SO many ways to get in some movement and cardio.. what is it that you don't like? -
yes, but the choice of carb is what matters.
