  1. Hi there I'm 22 yr old female I was sleeved on Monday the 9-8-14. My starting weight is 250. I only have lost like 3 pounds because all I have done so far is liquid diet two days before surgery and then this week. Also I don't own a scale I've decided to only buy one after the first month because I know this month the weight loss will be on high at first. Goal weight 170 I would really like a buddy who has hat this procedure because I'm not scared about the diet or anything at all just right now is the pain and nausea and I'm so scared of throwing up because I can't imagine what that would feel like if it happened. Just looking for someone to join me on the journey or mentor me through it. If anyone has some tips to get rid of gas what wouldn't cause me plane please let me know. I'm just so bloated also from the air in my it's just al together very uncomfortable Thanks! Maddy
  2. Hello there So please leave your judgement and opinions on medical marijuana at the door. I had surgery on monday I'm feeling great! Before surgery I started using marijuana to help with my arthritis depression and anxiety. I have never had munchies using the drug but it is the only medication that completely helps me with those three problems. Before i was using medical marijuana i was on the largest amount of anti anxiety meds that they will give because I struggle with agoraphobia and since starting to smoke weed my meds have been significantly brought down and my agoraphobia is gone. I plan on asking my doctor, but does anyone know when it would be okay to use mj post op again whether it be taken as a liquid, a pill, or more likely with a vaporizer. I don't smoke cigarettes I only use medical mj to help with my mood and my pain. It's the only thing that had really helped. Does anyone know when it would be okay to use marijuana again? Thanks

    Medical marihuana post op

Yeah it's been a great choice for me! It's great to know that it is an option available, of course only in some states. ????
  4. Hello there. So I has surgery 9-8-14 so currently I am 6 days post op and I'm up and about no problem. I could walk around forever but the only thing that gets in my way, including making me concerned about going to work tomorrow (I only work 3 hrs and I get to be seated the whole time if I need to be.) When do they seem to go away for people? Does anyone have a special trick? I was told to not take any gas medication to let it all be natural but 6 days of constant gas pains that seem to never go away really sucks. Any advice?
  5. Besides trying with excersise is there another way to help excess skin that isn't surgery?

When will my gas pains go away?

For me this is the only issue. Gas pain is the only pain. Everyone's recovery is different. I was terrified going into surgery but after it was over sure there was pain but completely livable. I was up and walking around 2 hours after surgery, my choice, and it's no problem. Some people are in bed for 2 weeks. Right before surgery I was crying because I was scared and my doctor said if the pain is going to make you regret this then don't do it. There is pain, you are cutting your body open. Your life will change forever. If the end results are not worth it and you don't think you can keep up your end with diet and excersise after recovery don't do it. I immediatley went in and had surgery. Do not get this surgery unless you will do what it takes to fight for your life also. Our surgeons only take out part of our stomachs, they aren't genies granting a skinny wish. With that being said I am so happy. Sure I have some pain and while my whole family ate my favorite meal last night, luckily a healthy one I get to have again grilled salmon brown rice and salad yum, I had water and sugar free popcicles. But what makes it better is when my step-sisters best friend comes over and says holy shit you got lipo too? (I did not) and it hasn't even been a week.

    Excess skin question

Thank you all for your responses. It will be interesting to see how my skin bounces back. I'm only 22 and my weight gain was very rapid due to being diagnosed with an auto immune disease about 2 years ago I really became immobile. I only got up into the 200's two years ago and it was impossible to come down my weight just kept adding on. My breasts will definatley need surgery because I have always been large chested and gravity hasn't been kind. No fun to be 22 and have saggy boobs! Also I'm 6 days post op and this morning I woke up and my stomach was flat! ... And my butt. I don't know how much weight I have lost yet because I don't own a scale. I think I'm gunna keep it this way so if I want to know the number I have to get my butt to the gym! Later down the line. For now I'll just wait till I see my surgeon.
  8. Last night around 730 I was taking all my meds and drank too much liquid and ended up throwing up. I have a hard time telling the difference between hunger and nausea so I just kept drinking water. Now I'm scared to again because it hurt so much.

    Excess skin question

@@AvaFern thanks so much for telling me that! My fear is pain and for me gastric sleeve has been a breeze so I'm happy that plastics is easier. Did you have to pay all out of pocket or was insurance able to cover some? I think I heard sometimes they will do that after weight loss surgery.

    Excess skin question

Well I'm definatley getting plastic surgery for the skin then. Also for my breasts because currently they are a 40 G! So once I will have to ask my doctor when to get te reduction and lift and I guess it makes sense to take care of the loose skin at the same time. How was the recovery with plastics?

    Medical marihuana post op

When it comes to the coughing there are many other ways to get mj into your system such as tinctures which is liquid marijuana that you can put into water or any liquid. That is what I am currently using to take my medication. Also vaporization is a great healthier option for the lungs and shouldn't cause as much irritation in the lungs.

    Medical marihuana post op

I agree. After surgery I was given a bunch of medications too including OxyCodone which I am not very comfortable putting in my body when it's relative is heroin one of the most addictive drugs in the world. I had that and nausea medication and a stool softener and prior to surgery before I had used MJ I was on a huge amount of anti anxiety and anti depression and sleep medication, along side medication I take for my arthritis. I don't take two of the medications anymore and the others were lowered significantly because all of those things can be treated using MJ. Of course it's not for everyone, but it seems like a pretty silly thing to be against.

Looking for a September 8th buddy

Hey there I was sleeved on the 8th! I'm 22 I live in LA. I'm looking for a buddy too!
  16. Hey there! I was sleeved on Monday the 8th. I don't specifically suffer from bipolar disorder but I do struggle with manic depression. I found the most emotional day to be the day of surgery before even going under. I just became very nervous and scared. For me it's about keeping myself occupied. I make sure that when I'm awake I'm always doing something and if I'm just watching tv I'm going to do something else also. You will be more emotional in the beginning so just be aware of that. Think of things that can help sooth you, tricks you have used before surgery. Also the best thing that has helped me keep my mental illness in the back for right now is looking towards the future and thinking okay this is the discomfort today but tomorrow will be better, simple things like that. I hope that your surgery goes well! Also remember you can always reach out for help! ????

    Medical marihuana post op

Thank you Bittersweet for helping people understand the situation. You are much more eloquent in your explanation than I am. I plan on discussing it with my surgeon because I wanted to take the pills that have no high effects so that I don't have to smoke it but I don't know how that will make my new tummy feel so I might have to smoke it but now they do amazing things with vaporizers. Also pain medication is so intense and makes me nauseous where as medical marijuana can cure pain and nausea. So I hope my surgeon will say I can switch and stop taking the crazy pain meds. You are very kind to be understanding that it is called "medical" for a reason. Thank you for your support! ????

Thank you so much for your words of advice. I'll discuss it with my surgeon I guess I was just nervous about being judged even though I live in California and I have a medical card so it's completely legal. Thanks so much!

    Pain help

Hello everyone. I was sleeved on Monday 9/8/14 and my recovery has been pretty good. My starting weight was 250 I didn't have to do a long liquid diet before surgery so I've only lost like 5 pounds from the 4 days I havnt been eating. My goal weight is 170 The only thing that is really hurting me are the gas pains. I'm just constantly nauseous and sore and I can't sleep. I am having a lot of nerves that all started the day before surgery. I'm so happy but I keep getting very stressed and just crying out of nowhere I'm just scared I guess mainly about being in pain any longer. I got it still I just would love someone who also had this surgery around a younger age like myself or anyone really to let me know if there are any tricks to making these gas pains go away. They make it so I can't sleep. Also if you know about how long the pains last such as soreness or the sharp pain from rotating my body too much. I am on oxy and some anti nausea which helps a bit but not all together Xoxo Maddy

    Pain help

Thank you so much for your great words of advice. I just got up and walked around a bit and was finally given some relief through burping. Also I'm trying a heating pad on my stomach and that seems to be helping a lot

    Pain help

Okay good to know. Yeah walking has actually been harder since I have been home I think it has to do with recieving less pain medication. Is it better to do small walks throughout the day like just a couple walks back and forth from the bed or is it better to wait and just do like 30 minutes walking straight

    Pain help

Thanks so much for your kind words. Do you remember how many days it was for you till the gas pains got better? I feel like everywhere I read it says 2-3 days and I feel like it has to last longer than that.
