  4. Hello this is my first post. I am 32 just got married to a wonderful man whom I am deeply in love :tt1: with in March 2008. I have 1 child and 2 step-children all boys eek.gif ages 10, 12 and 15. I am interested in having the Lap Band surgery done. I have my first appointment in Shreveport, LA on June 25, 2008 w/ Dr. Merriman. If there is anyone out there who can give my any insight about the Dr. and what his procedures are I would be most great-full. Thanks

  5. okay, am 2 weeks exactly post op- a week 1/2 into the liquids, my stomach was rumbling VIOLENTLY!!! & i could tell the difference between the surgery gas & hungry by this point (which really doesnt bother me) but the violent pangs HURT a bit- so to appease it, i found that if i toss sugar free coco, a tblspn of Peanut Butter & 8oz of skim milk into the food processor or blender, i have shake- make sure if you do this, you keep stirring as it does eventually seperate- but it is filling- so much so that i only drink a few sips & stick it in the fridge for later- i have also found that if you take a baked potato, add sour cream (fatfree/light) and a bit of Water & cheese & season it, you can mush it up to almost liquid & eat that- i do about 2 tblspns at a sitting if i am lucky, and make sure to chew the lumps out before swallowing- drink a tiny bit of water with it & it goes down/thru- & i am full for hours- hope that helps you- also found that lowfat/sodium crackers melt/dissolve in your mouth & 2 will also fill me up for hours...call me weird, but those hunger pains HURT!!!! just a thought for you ladies who are starving! ~Mimi

Those of you who are self-payers...

i'm self pay in shreveport-mine is going to be right at 11000 (a little bit more, but its like 11100) + the cost of the pre-op testing- your insurance will most likely cover the preop testing parts & probably the fills too-my doc's office bills it as an ultrasound & injection & office visit i think is how they put it- so its not that bad around here- there is a similar place down south i think in the baton rouge area that is also surgical specialists & they have a similar plan/price- it just depends on what part of the state you're in:biggrin:

    Ladies, please help!

you will want to remove the piercing- the reason they have you remove all metal objects prior to surgery is so that in case you should flatline or have trouble, they can resucitate you with the paddles & all- otherwise the flow of the electricity might be enhanced via the METAL!!!! which would be a bad thing! plus the monitoring systems that they use might get interference with it as well- they have to attach the wires via the sticky's to your chest & it monitors your heartrate & vital signs- eek! plus for obvious reasons- you will most likely get a catheter -& that sort of piercing will DEFINATLY be seen by the nurse who has to put it in- & the one who has to take it out- if you dont mind them having to tell you to remove it, you might be okay- but i honestly wouldnt try it!
