Just bought a size 10 goal pants - am I being unrealistic?
tomi71 replied to yogachick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love Goodwill! I visit the ones in NYC around the upscale 'hoods because you can always find great finds and the good thing is that the clothes are well made and will last! -
What's your favorite tried and true go to meals or snacks?

Cauliflower rice or cauliflower whipped "potatoes." Nuts and sugar-free fruit cups. Damon Greek yogurts. -

Why is it important to eat after dinner
tomi71 replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think these boards s/b as free of judgement as possible, IJS. You never know how vulnerable the person on the other end might be. I'll promote for myself what my medical team advises. If that means I snack all day and continue to stay healthy and reach that healthy weight then that's my story. Everyone has one that works. I am ultimately in control. But, if anyone wants to waste their energy judging then so be it. Still going to enjoy my journey. ???????????? -

Why is it important to eat after dinner
tomi71 replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i eat 3 squares a day but I also snack. It's not that you're eating, it's WHAT you're eating that matters. -
Technically you can but shouldn't. You need to eat smart (not that you don't, just using my NUTs words.) Things that are slow to digest and are nutrient-dense are what I was told to eat. I snack all day because I find it keeps my urge to eat crap at bay and its a great metabolism booster since I lift weights. I do imbibe once in a while but most junk doesn't agree with me anymore.

I felt that exact same way. I am 7.5 mos out and still cringe at a meal but not nearly as much as I used to. I snack all day so when The do sit down at a meal I don't feel so "depressed" and fed up about food. I starting to get my taste back for food which is good. Give it time. You'll enjoy food again but this time it'll be the right kinda like veggies and good proteins.

Highly processed foods like most breads, cookies, cakes, pies, candies. I eat bread but it's sprouted bread or low-carb high fiber Mission brand tortillas. Other things like yogurts don't stay in me long but I pair it with a nice protein so as to get probiotics and not get hungry.

The Rules: Do you follow them?
tomi71 replied to MichiganChic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat some bread but not much. I have had maybe the equivalent of two Dt. Pepsi since sleeved in July. I guess you could say I follow 90%. I am ok with that because I am 100% more healthy than prior to sleeve. If I "cheat" I no longer obsess over it. Healthy body + healthy state of mind = goal. -
Are you seeing someone about it? It is probably a good idea to. I am sorry you are going through this because it really sucks and zaps all motivation and energy. Try to take each day at a time. Feel better and focus on the reason why you took this step...to get healthy. We must also take care of our minds too otherwise we can never truest be healthy.

Do you miss anything about being fat?
tomi71 replied to aSleeveStory's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second the statements about being warm. I do miss that. I am always freezing. -
I once said to my surgeon that this was the easiest thing I have ever done in terms of weight loss and he almost fell over. I went on to explain that by easy I don't mean it in the same negative context that those ignorant of the facts might view it. I mean easy as in I now have a static, clear and present tool that makes me accountable for my actions and as a result my anxiety about taking off and keeping off, excess weight has gone from an off-the-charts level to nil! I do think the folks who carelessly call WLS "easy" are out to lunch. Anyway, don't worry about what nay-sayers think. We all know the real deal about this life.

Bread and Biscuits post op
tomi71 replied to Karenlrn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I indulge in a piece of bread every now and again. It is flat bread and usually a high-fiber low carb whole wheat tortilla. I don't finish the whole thing and will pick the Protein and veggies out of it first. A little bit of bread carbs is unlikely to hurt you, provided you can stomach it. Just don't let it get the upper hand as carbs are want to do sometimes. As long as you are exercising, especially if you are lifting weights, and eating those Proteins and plant-based healthy carbs you should be ok. I also eat oatmeal and so far so good. I won't try rice or Pasta because I am too afraid too and I know pasta and rice are trigger foods for me so those I keep clear of. That's the nice th ing about this surgery and having a low pain threshold, one look at certain foods and my stomach is telling me hellz no! -
First class and totally shocked
tomi71 replied to AWD12368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Google scholar has a large database of articles about WLS including Lap Band. Lots of great info there but you do have to pay unless you can get access via a local library or academic sources. Gov. Chris Chrisite of NJ has a Lap Band I believe and he seems to be doing ok but of course he has Cadillac health insurance and care. Would you consider a sleeve? I know for me the band was too unsettling an idea and that I would need something more permanent but I also researched the various kinds of WLS and ended up pursuing the sleeve. -
That's awesome! Isn't that a great feeling? Best wishes on speedy recovery and much success!

Do you miss anything about being fat?
tomi71 replied to aSleeveStory's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not miss the fat BUT one thing that I am finding is that I don't care for some of the "attention" I get from the guys. It's been a long time and at first it's flattering but after a while it's tiring. -
Still the same. Week 6 of a stall. Grrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Almost 7 mos out and I do eat fruit. Not much though. Mostly berries, applesauce, and some grapefruit. I can't stomach fruit like bananas, while apples, pineapples, mangos, the list can go on but berries, grapefruit, and applesauce I can do. Oh I do eat tomatoes. Life would not be worth living if I can't eat my summer heirlooms.

Do you count carbs?
tomi71 replied to catlover2565's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are on similar pages. NUT has my carbs set at 40-45% and those should be from plant-based whole foods like veggies and fruits...which helps with net carbs because of fiber. I am at a semi-stall & panicked because I thought it was the carbs but I lift weights and notice my clothes are still getting looser. So it seems to be still working out. I will be at 7 months on Valentine's and am down a total of 80lbs. -

I'm done telling folks. They don't get it
tomi71 replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am finding that the more weight I lose the more I realize my weight was & is someone else's issue. Case in point: I had a convo with Mother a few days back about my progress ( we have this convo errrrrtime we talk, ugh) and she asked me about my goal weight. Like a dumba$$ I told her, to which she replied that that goal of 140 was still "too heavy", & that I s/b at 125/0. That's about what she weighs. Notice I call her Mother. Like Norman Bates referred to his momma. I wasn't mad tho. Not at first. Took me 2.5 days to get pissed. Husband, the psychologist, thankfully talked me off the edge. And he told me my weight is HER issue that she can't control. It's no longer an issue for me because I've gained the upper hand and took control of my health. And the key word is health NOT simply weight. Neither Mother nor Father know I had WLS. Only 3 ppl outside of my medical team know. Oh & my dog. He knows too. But he can keep a secret, lol. I just feel like if you decide to tell folks about your choice and then explain why you made the choice, you run a very high risk of receiving negative feedback PARTICULARLY because of this being a WL tool. Folks are so ignorant to how WLSs work and will immediately jump to the nonsensical conclusion that it's a lazy cop out way to lose weight. Kinda how I used to see WLS years ago before I wised up. As far as I am concerned I owed no one an explanation. It's my body, my health, and I researched this route years before I pushed the go button so I knew what I was getting into. And besides, I am 43 years-old woman. Fudge anyone who can't dig me. Don't need their approval.
