    Does running get easier!?

I can relate to aftershocks! I think every time I try I move a fault line that much closer to a big quake! LMBO Mi madre and hubby were/are runners and tell me it is hard work but it gets easier if you are consistent. I am hoping to get into a running groove when I get about 30 more lbs lighter. By then I'll be 40 lbs away from goal. There's alot of good running programs out there for download with fitness apps. One thing, just make sure you are wearing the correct size and type if running shoe. Shoes can make a huge difference between a good, safe run & injury!
  2. Where are they going to get it done? It is my understanding that 50 extra pounds does not a good surgery candidate make. Add to this the issue of the patient only being say 30 lbs overweight and you have trouble on your hands. My first thoughts are that the doctors who agree to do this are unethical. Doesn't the oath say have doctors promise to first, do no harm?! Second the patients sound like they really need counseling help. Admittedly, for years I snubbed WLS. I sounded like everyone else who doesn't understand the procedure and philosophy of WLS. I thought it was an easy way out, unnecessary, too much if a health risk, etc. I know better than that now so it bugs the hell out of me when folks look down on it or attempt to abuse WLS. The other thing is is the risk of creating a situation where more regs are put into place to control WLS. That can really affect folks who would benefit from the procedure. SMH. What a shame.

    No! Not the booty!

    Elliptical helps too!
  4. I am at the half-way mark and Ill hit 'onederland' very soon....before Xmas hopefully as I am 5lbs from 199. I am still very motivated but I will admit that my motivation is losing its luster. It has lost some luster until this morning when I saw on the news that I still weigh more than Bernard Hopkins! LOL Motivation just got its groove back! I know comparisons are normally frowned upon but that newsflash put things back into perspective for me in terms of my ultimate goal of 125-130 (I am 5'3.) I know my odds of being healthier and happier are stacked in my favor at that weight range but boy....just to be able to finally say to myself I don't weigh as much as a tight-end or a champion welterweight boxer sure will be freeing! What still motivates you?

  6. Every morning. I like getting on that scale and see it go down.
  7. I thought I was the only one! I never like Krispy Kreme for that exact reason. I prefer cake donuts like Dunkin anywho. Well, I "preferred" Dunkin. I am scared to eat it and don't even crave em.

    HELP HELP PLEASE

???? So sorry to hear of complications. Hope all works out. Blerdgirl is right...def find a surgeon you are comfortable with as this sounds very serious and definitely needs expert medical attention.

    No! Not the booty!

I feel that way about my hips! My booty will never go away as I have enough to spare but it is going to sag someday so squats are part if my rotation. Plus it helps build a strong back too which is very important as one gets older.
  11. I gained 6 pounds right after surgery. By weeks end I was down 10. Its fluid retention, etc. Not uncommon. How are you now? ( I see your original post was several months ago)

Is TOO much protein a concern?

Right after surgery I was told to strive for 90 grams. Then they had me dial it back to a max of 70 daily to avoid kidney stones. Be sure to stay hydrated because that helps prevent stones.

    My father-in-law is oblivious.

@@wicked_ash Guess who was on news this morning? Termini Bros. The line was out the door and every other word was "cannolis!" LOL I could SMELL the cannoli. .......Didn't want even a tiny bite. Isn't that a great feeling? Happy Holidays & may everyone's 2015 be even better!
  16. Look into Pocket Protein. Thats another good item to have on hand post-op dietary wise. Here's a link for the product: http://pocketprotein.com My NUT found it in Wegmans Market. I put it in my flavored waters because I not fond of taste. Goes down smooth and doesn't mess with my tummy. I started 1 week post-op. It looks like one can order a free sample to try it out. A box goes for 14.99 at Wegmans with a Wegmans card. Good luck and congrats everyone!
  17. Wait til you shop after you start losing! Its gonna be fun, fun, fun!Add---sugar-free pops for post op. They were a big help with staying hydrated.
  18. As I read through these boards I've noticed that some input deviates. Case in point...NSAIDS. I was told by my surgeon that the first few months NSAIDS are off limits. Later its ok to take ONLY if a) prescribed by a medical professional who is aware of the fact that a procedure was done, closely monitored & c) only short term. This. From my surgeon. Board certified. Licensed. Excellent tract record. UPenn/Boston med grad. Just saying at the end of the day I take what my medical team says under serious advisement over folks who aren't medical professionals.

    Heading to hospital

Congrats! Feel better soon...you will! ????
  21. Me too. I hate them. They're gross...have yet to try one I like enough to get down. I find many have a slimy "under-texture" and leave a bad taste. I still drink them a few times a week but try to get my protein from real food.
  22. I had that. I ended up using a teaspoon. I think it was from gulping and once I started with teaspoon it got much better.
  23. "Therefore, I want to lie about what surgery I'm having. That's where I need your help. What surgery could "look" a lot like the gastric sleeve? And what are the symptoms of that surgery?" Gall bladder, hysterectomy, or hernia. I had all 3 and they do feel and look similar to gastric sleeve....except the post-op diet restrictions. BUT----- A: You don't have to lie about a thing because 1) you don't owe your co-workers any explanations & 2) your medical situation is private. People who ask........ just tell them you had a medical issue, got it under control, and to keep it that way you've made life style changes. This explanation isn't a lie. Never apologize for doing whats best for you. Congrats! I am happy for you! Best wishes and here's to a healthier life!
  24. Post-op....just have a small, firm pillow on hand to hold against your tummy when having a bm, riding in a car and whatnot. The hospital gave me one. My husband was really great so I didn't need or want for much. Oh! Maybe a pitcher or thermos to keep by your bedside filled with water. I would wake up in the middle of the night thirsty. Also, a nice comfy warm robe and socks cuz you are going to get cold! Best of luck and congrats!
