  1. I have my psych eval on Monday. I had to take the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory last week, along with a couple of other tests, now I have to meet with the psychologist for the eval. I am nervous. Can anyone tell me what their psych eval was like? Did anyone else have to take the MMPI-2? What sort of questions did you get asked in the eval? What can I expect?

    Our second brains?

How does wls affect this second brain?
  3. I have had a ciggy or two since I officially 'quit' last January. My program requires you to quit smoking before they will even submit you to insurance. I have a visit with the NUT this Friday and I'm going to tell her that the stress of waiting for this surgery has gotten to me and I got some nicotine gum to avoid taking up smoking again. I'm just going to come out with it before I have any blood work done. That way they will expect to see it and won't disqualify me because of it.

    just WRONG

Time to get a new job?
  5. I've decided Dr. Ortiz is going to be my doctor if I end up having to go to Mexico.
  6. I'm not in a relationship (thankfully) but I am losing my best friend. She has turned into a painfully polite person at work, but doesn't talk to me like she once did. She had the bypass a decade ago but gained back a lot of weight. She has been working out for the past year and has lost a bit, but when she found out I was going for the surgery she has since started distancing herself from me. It was hurtful at first but now I feel like she was not a real friend in the first place. Hindsight is 20/20 and now I see that there were problems in the friendship that I glossed over because she was my BFF. After the surgery, my life is going to change, and how I pick my friends is also going to change.
  7. Oh I know! I have a visit with the NUT on Friday morning and my psych eval next Monday. I am going to ask how much longer I have to wait....how far off are they booking surgery. If I am looking at waiting till next March I am going to start working on Plan B...which is going to Mexico. My deductible is $4500 and that is how much it will cost me to go to Mexico.

    Passport for Mexico

You can get a passport really fast, but you will have to pay extra for it. The information is on the web. You should get started on that right away if you're not going to pay the extra for fast service. It does take time to get a passport and you do need one to travel to Mexico.

    No good deed goes unpunished

After reading this forum, I have decided not to weigh myself at all. I will just find out when I go for my followup visits with the doctor. Other than that I am going to wait until around the 3rd or 4th month to pull out the scale.
  10. If I end up using my Plan B and going to Mexico, I'm not going to tell my doctor about it till I get home. My clinic is in a large medical center and they don't turn away patients. If I end up in Mexico, I won't be seeing the surgeon anyway. I can get expert nutritional advice online and my doctor does blood work every six months anyway. If she does not want to see me, I will simply change doctors. I figure if anything goes horribly wrong I can always go to the ER.
  11. I hope all goes well. Dr. Ortiz is at the top of my Plan B list of doctors. Hopefully, I will have had my surgery by Jan 15th, but if I don't I will be interested in all you have to say about your experience with Dr. Ortiz.

    Dark areas on inner thighs

I have heard from my relatives that have had the surgery that if you brush the area with a stiff bath brush as you are loosing weight, the skin does change back to it's regular color. They also say that brushing your skin in the shower helps with the lose skin...it stimulates cell turnover apparently.

Glad you are doing well. I think I will add this doctor to my Plan B surgery in Mexico list. Thanks for the report!
  14. I think my best friend is avoiding me. She had WLS over a decade ago and lost well over 300 pounds with it. She has gained about half of it back (had 2 children since). I think she has started avoiding me. We work in the same place and when we run into each other she is always nice....but....whereas she once talked to me several times a day...she now walks by me and acts like she does not see me. Since I told her I was determined to have the surgery, things have changed. Today she did not make an effort to talk to me once. I tried to make eye contact with her once today and she did not even glance at me though she was standing about 10 feet away. Every time she comes near she does not look at me anymore. Yesterday when we were forced into the same space (due to work) she said "Oh girl, we got to get together and talk. I'll call you." Then she never did. I'm not sure what to think. I was hoping she would be part of the support system I could depend on. I'm not sure what is going on.
  15. Wow! Running a marathon is on my bucket list and I was thinking I would use running as the exercise of choice once I am sleeved.

    I'm READY to age backwards!

Good luck! I will be going to Mexico if I get denied by my insurance. Waiting to hear your story.
  18. Mrs. Reid

    Your choice.

I chose the sleeve because I have relatives who have had both. The one's with the sleeve have lost just as much weight as the ones with the bypass, yet the ones with the sleeve have had fewer complications and generally seem happier with their decision.

    A year ago this time

    Nice story.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes!!!

    Surgery Tomorrow! !

    Congrats and good luck!!!!
  22. If you need instant help, get yourself an enema/douche bag, fill it with warm Water and use it to go. Sometimes those individual enema from the store don't have enough liquid to be effective. If you have your own bag you can use it whenever you have a problem and you don't have to worry about the cramps that the laxatives give you. Also, you don't have to worry about the drugs kicking in at the wrong time.

When you can't even be honest with yourself

@@Kindle I wonder who you are that you believe you have the right to call someone else's decision BS? I'm only telling a select few people about the surgery...so what? Who are you to pass judgement on that fact? I'm honest with myself. I know what I'm doing. I don't lie to people. If I say I'm following a medically supervised weight loss program, how is that a lie? I feel no shame in what I'm doing. I am proud of myself for making this decision and following through with it. Each person's situation is different. You don't know the repercussions each person on this forum will face if they tell everyone about their WLS. To make a blanket generalization that everyone who does not reveal their private health information is out of line. Who are you to judge?

    High blood pressure

I have hypertension and am on meds to deal with it. It is the comorbidity that is getting me the surgery even though my BMI is under 40
  25. I had Dr. Ortiz on my list as possibles in case I am denied by my insurance here in Minnesota. Glad to hear you had such a great experience.
