Mrs. Reid replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had one in September just because I knew I should. So if it is a requirement....I'm already done. -

Any other abuse survivors/people with PTSD on this forum?
Mrs. Reid replied to YellowWallpaper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I had the anxiety too. I have PTSD but it is under control....no drugs. As soon as I started this journey I started putting on weight. That isn't good. It is a fight every day not to let the demons that rise from my subconscious defeat me. I've been having the strange dreams too. I am simply at a point where I have no choice but to fight. My body is starting to break down from carrying all the extra weight. I have to be nice to myself and treat me like I am worth all of the trouble. -
I know what you're talking about! Once, I was trying to get some exercise, riding a bike through the park and there was this hill I had to ride up and I was huffing and puffing and there were these teenage girls pointing at me and laughing. It took a while to get over that.

Dealing with the changes in the way people treat you
Mrs. Reid posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all! I would like to hear from people about dealing with the changes in the way people relate to you post-op. I hear that there is a lot of attention paid during the dramatic weight loss phase. I'm just starting this journey and would like to know about your experiences and what that does to your own sense of self. Thanks -
I'm ready to puff of a few pounds!

Are you worried that your doctor will stop the surgery because you didn't lose enough weight? -

Struggling to stick with diet to get a VSG date
Mrs. Reid replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat. I have an appointment on Monday morning with my NUT and I HAVE to show some weight loss to be submitted to the insurance company for approval. I am desperate to do it so I am skipping dinner for a Protein shake at 4:30 and another one at 6:30. Starting Friday I'm going to do 6 shakes a day and no food. My shakes have 150 calories per shake so that is 900 calories for the day. I consider it a trial run for my pre-op diet. I don't think 3 shakes a day is enough. I will get to hungry and will eat anything in sight. If will power alone could do it I would not need the surgery. -

Mrs. Reid replied to gamecockfan864's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are self-pay, why are you worried? If the program you are in rejects you....you can just go to Mexico. -

Not feeling sure about going through with WLS...
Mrs. Reid replied to nolongerhere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is really important to go into WLS feeling 100% positive that it's the right choice for you. I think that is why most programs make you jump through a few hoops before you can do it. It's not just for the education about WLS, it's to give you time to think about what WLS could mean for your life. I had been thinking it over for 3 years. I made a serious effort to lose weight on my own...and did...I lost about 50 pounds...then gained it all back. I tried hiring personal trainers, buying dvds, workout buddies, joining clubs...everything. At my checkup in August I found out my blood pressure was getting worse, I was officially pre-diabetic, my kidneys were showing signs of deterioration, my cholesterol was way to high and the arthritis in my hips was getting worse. Over the next 5 - 10 years, I'm looking at a hip replacement, possible kidney transplant and heart disease. My next question for my doctor was "Can you give me a referral to the barbaric clinic?" She said "Yes." and so the journey began. -
Finally, thank you God!

Two weeks till my last NUT visit...
Mrs. Reid posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
...and I have to show weight loss. I have started skipping dinner and drinking a nutritional Protein shake at about 4:30 and another at 6:30. I am single so I don't have to cook for anyone. I see this as a practice run for my two week pre-op diet. It has been hard, I am craving so bad but I know it is head hunger and I am going to have to learn to overcome that anyway. If I drop a few pounds this will be my last NUT visit and they will submit me for insurance approval. I started this journey in August after 3 years of thinking about it. There's that little voice inside telling me that I don't need this, that I can lose the weight on my own. But I have been overweight since I was 9 years old and I have been dieting since I was 12, that voice is lying...that voice is fear. I need this surgery and as badly as I would like to cook up something tasty, I would like to be slim even more. Just a rant...just needed to get it out and on the record. -
I have to have two consecutive visits with some weight loss....no particular amount...just some weight loss. My next visit is on the 22nd of December and if I show weight loss, it will be my last.

First Appointment Tomorrow
Mrs. Reid replied to Jocie227's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just remember that the hospital and the surgeon don't get paid unless they get people through the process and on the table for surgery. They can't be in the business of denying people surgery for unfounded random reasons. More likely, if there is something about you that throws up a roadblock, they will try to work with you to get past it. I know you are anxious. I was where you are this past August. Hang in there, try to stay positive and BREATH!
