Hello-- Question about insurance terms : )

I have a different insurance company, but mine meant I had to talk in detail to my nutritionist about all the diets I had been on. I talked about dieting since I was 12 years old. They also want you to mention that you tried weight watchers and failed. No one asked me for proof of all the diets I had done. I would not have been able to prove it as I didn't know I would need to produce the receipts.

    Waiting waiting waiting!

Hey there! I am also 52 and waiting to finish jumping through hoops to get my date. My psych eval is on the 3rd of November and will hopefully have a date soon after that. I am hoping for December and am currently doing everything to make sure I am successful. It is definitely my turn
  3. Thanks so much to all who replied! I was not going to take my measurements but now I will. I thought about buying up Protein shakes when I could find them on sale, but that idea is also out the window. I don't have a surgery date yet but am planing for December. I am trying to do some of the emotional work now and getting myself psyched up. Even though I am still jumping through hoops, I consider myself pre-op. I am trying to do the things that will get me in shape to have an easy recovery. (i.e., workout, cutting out sugary food) I am so happy to be on this journey that I want to do everything in my power to make sure I am successful. Thanks again for all the info!

    Phooey!

I think you will feel better in clothes that fit. Are there second hand stores around where you can get some cheap clothes to see you through a month or two?

    Goal weight is still overweight!?!?!?

Exactly! Why go threw all of this and still be overweight? My goal weight is 135 which puts me right in the middle of the normal range. I know people will say I am losing to much weight but they are not the ones who will be paying my medical bills. Also, I want to have some room to lose or gain a few pounds without becoming unhealthy.
  6. This is one reason I'm not telling people about my surgery. At the initial information class at the bariatric clinic, another person told me "You're not that big" I told her I was much heavier than I looked. For me, I just want to avoid the negative vibes. People have their own reasons for saying the things they do. Maybe they think they are giving me a complement when they say I don't look big enough for surgery. I don't care what their reason is, I don't want to hear it. This is my life and I am responsible for my health. This is the way I am going to get healthy and stay healthy for the rest of my life.

    African American vsgers!

Hey everyone! I am hoping to be sleeved in December. I am still jumping through hoops but I feel that things are going to work out well for me and I will be sleeved soon. This time next year I will be at ideal weight. I am doing everything I can to make this successful for me.

Money out of pocket day of procedure

I don't have to pay anything up front. My deductible is 4,500 dollars. The hospital is going to bill me for that. I do have Preferred One though.

    Appearing smaller than you are

I too weigh much more than I look. I am sure I am going to hear "You're loosing to much weight." when I get down closer to 135. I'm not going to let that stop me. I'm going all the way down to 135! That is where my BMI is going to be normal and my body will be healthy. It will remove my hypertension and keep me far away from diabetes. I know that is going to make me a bit skinny looking and I'm ok with that
  10. I know just how you feel! I ordered this book on Amazon..it's called 'The Emotional First Aid Kit: A practical guide to life after bariatric surgery. I was highly recommended by a lot of people who had the surgery. It talks a lot about how life/people/your situation changes after the surgery. I want to have everything I need to make this a success. I want to be as prepared as I possibly can to make this happen.

I think you're right. I'm in this limbo period after the 6 month physician-supervised weight loss for my insurance company and seeing the surgeon for a consult and I'm trying not to have food funerals!! :)

    Does everyone experience hairloss?

I really hope not. I have dreadlocs and I have no idea what I would do without them.
  15. I am saving up my paid time off. I am planning to take 2 weeks starting the day before I have surgery. I am not telling my employer what I am doing during my time off and will not tell then once I return.

    African American Sleevers

Have any of you Sisters gotten your sleeve done in Mexico? I'm getting my backup plan together in case I get denied by insurance. I'm interested to know where you went and how you were treated. Thanks

    anyone getting sleeved in DECEMBER?

I'm hoping to get sleeved in December! Still jumping through hoops and working for insurance approval!
  19. I am going to have surgery in the middle of a Minnesota winter. Last year we had temps 20 below zero for days in a row. I know my fat insulates me....I guess some of the new clothes I will have to buy are more sweaters!
  20. Hey there! I anticipate getting approved for surgery here in the US. BUT....if I don't get approved I am planing on clearing out the credit cards and heading for Mexico. Glad to hear things went well for you. If you don't mind me asking ...how much did you have to pay?
  21. Wow, that is really inspiring! I'm glad you stuck to it. I don't anticipate any problems getting my team to get clearance for me, but if I do, I know how to stand firm. Good luck with the approvals!
  22. Congrats! Fingers and toes crossed!

    I Passed!

    Congrats! Keep the fingers crossed!
  24. Hey all! I have been seeing post-op cookbooks that are directed specifically at people who have had weight loss surgery. I know I need to re-learn how to cook and am wondering if anyone out there has tried any of these cookbooks. Or, is there a cookbook that you would recommend? Thanks
  25. Mrs. Reid

    Approved!

Congrats!!!! Stay positive and keep visualizing the new you!!!!
