November sleevers in Mexico?
KristenVSG2014 replied to Becca R.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It has grown on me. I got all three flavors so I wouldn't get bored. It may not be the absolute tastiest BUT it has the best calorie/protein/carb/sugar content compared to all the others I looked at. -
November sleevers in Mexico?
KristenVSG2014 replied to Becca R.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Timing and spacing out "meals", buying in bulk at Sam's and tracking calories is a must for me. I have a cup of coffee first (I'm not cutting this out until 3 days before surgery) at 6 am then I get ready for work. On my way to work I drink a Premier Protein (8 am). As soon as I get to work I fill up my 32 oz Water bottle. I work on that and usually finish around 11:00. I try to wait until at least 12:00 before I have my other Premier Protein and I allow myself a 60 calorie yogurt as a snack if needed. I fill up my water bottle again and finish it before 5:00. At 6:00 I throw a mesquite chicken breast in the microwave while I build a salad. Eat dinner and if I get hungry later I have a giant cup of tea (like 20 oz) and/or a sugar-free Popsicle. I'm not going to lie. I had a few weak moments but they were small and minor setbacks. I moved on and have not allowed it to derail me (this is a big deal because I'm a perfectionist who usually gives up after one mistake)! -

Nov 3 in Tijuana with Dr. Lopez. I can email the dietician any time. She told me to go ahead and start the pre-op diet. Tomorrow will be two weeks I've been doing it. Then two more weeks of pre-op and a 3 day Clear liquids only. I'm looking forward to surgery. It can't get here soon enough! -
Creating a new group?

What a great idea! I'll definitely join. I'm just not sure how to help you with creating it. I've only been on here for about a month so I'm pretty new. -
Good bye to fast food

NOPE! I heard one person refer to them as "food funerals" and I thought that was brilliant. Lol! -

I did this with quite a few foods. French fries, chocolate ice cream cone, Publix ultimate sub, Publix chicken tenders and pizza. We had to break up. I'm glad I really love salads because that's what I've been eating every night on this pre-op diet! -

I have had my Mirena IUD for 3 years now and I love it. I have PCOS and used to have endometriosis with severe heavy bleeding. Six months after having the IUD inserted and my body regulated itself I haven't had another period. No blood. I haven't used a pad or tampon in over two years! By the way, my surgeon has no issue with the IUD. -

They both seemed equally qualified. I've watched all their videos online and would be happy with either. -

I had a really weird feeling yesterday. Very dizzy, light headed and slightly nauseated. I was far from home with a group of friends. They were concerned and no one knew about my surgery so I ended up having lunch with them. I felt much better afterwards so pretty sure it was blood sugar. I'm not beating myself up which is what I normally would have done. Later that day I went and volunteered for 3 hours on my feet and turned down free beer and funnel cake. Self-control is still intact. :-) I'm still over two weeks away from surgery and I did what I felt was best in the moment and would make the same decision again. I'm right back to my pre-op diet today. Dang that slight change in diet made my hunger level (physical and head hunger) shoot right through the roof though. I had to remove myself from the living room today because of commercials. Tummy is growling. Waiting for 6:00 so I can have my salad and chicken. 2 1/2 hours to go... Can I go ahead and get this surgery over with? The waiting is torturous! It still feels so far away. -
anyone scheduled for surgery in nov?
KristenVSG2014 replied to MindyLynn5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those of you, including me, going to Tijuana - it is three syllables and is pronounced Tee-wa-na (Ti/jua/na). Many English-speakers mistakenly pronounce it Tee-a-wa-na adding in an extra syllable (Ti/a/jua/na) but that is only because many people do not read or speak Spanish and are repeating how they've heard it incorrectly pronounced before. I feel it is important when traveling to another country to respect their language and culture. If we all take a little time to learn a few words in Spanish before our trip it can make our experience more rewarding and maybe even impress our surgeon and his staff. P.S. I am by no means fluent in any language besides English, but my husband is bilingual and when I visited his home country of Guatemala his family appreciated any time I tried to communicate in their native language. I learned the basics before going - how to order my food, ask for the bathroom, ask for the police/hospital/consulate, and greetings and manners. -
Your chance of getting cancer goes down dramatically after reaching a healthy weight so you are more likely to get cancer without surgery. Morbidly obese people have a 62% higher chance of dying from cancer than those at a healthy weight.

Overwhelmed at the thought of the new way of life I will have to adapt
KristenVSG2014 replied to MauiGirl5555's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think of getting your sleeve as starting over as a baby. You start off with just liquids, then progress to soft puréed foods, then a little more solid foods, and finally you start seeing what you can tolerate. This all takes months. But once you get through the "stages" of post op you will be able to eat like you did before, just a lot less! -

One week down, three to go! SW: 260.8 CW: 255.2 Lost 5.6 pounds in one week. Not too shabby. Woo hoo! I know most of that is Water weight so any weight lost in the next three weeks will be "real" weight. -
Just a couple curious questions

I didn't know either until my chiropractor did an X-ray and said, "Look, there are your gallbladder staples!" and I was like Whaaaaaat? I saw them plain as day on the X-ray. Blew my mind. I've been through many airport metal detectors and X-rays since the surgery and never knew. -

I haven't had surgery but it's in less than a month so I'm curious to see what others say. However, I still have the staples from having my gallbladder removed...so maybe the staples are permanent? I know healing takes about 8 weeks according to my surgeon. -

Thankfully I made it home two hours later and had something to eat. I feel loads better! I guess I should keep an extra shake at work just in case it happens again. Thanks for the tip! -
Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond
KristenVSG2014 replied to KristenVSG2014's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is my fifth day on the pre-op diet. I've felt great every day so far until today around 3:00 when I got really light headed and a little dizzy. I haven't had blood sugar issues for many years but it reminded me of low blood sugar. I have already had 64 ounces of water so I'm not dehydrated. The only thing different today is I'm working and was busier than usual. What should I do in cases like this? Normally I would have an afternoon snack to hold me over until dinner but I've been very strict with my diet and calories. -

That IS freaky! I'm always complimented on how well I carry my weight. Any person I've told about the surgery (it hasn't been many) has asked how much I want to lose and when I tell them 100 pounds they can't comprehend where it will come from. Then I tell them how much I weigh and they said, "No. Really?? You don't look it!" Uh...thanks? I guess. Lol! I applied for surgery but my insurance company denied me. They don't cover ANY weight loss surgery. Stupid, but I'm happy that I don't have to jump through all those hoops and "prove" I need the surgery. -

Ooh! I love tea! And I actually have some green tea too. It should also help with the dreaded "I'm freezing constantly from the decreased calories" issue I've been dealing with. Thanks for the tip :-) -

Days 3 & 4 have been uneventful. I'm hungry but able to deal with it. I'm looking forward to my metabolism slowing down a bit so my stomach will stop growling. -
How tall are you and what is your goal dress/pant size?
KristenVSG2014 replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very similar to me. I'm 5'7, broad shoulders, wide ribcage and big boobs. I carry my weight proportionally well but I've been overweight my entire life. In my adult life the largest size I have been is a 24 the smallest is a 16. I'm currently a tight 18. My goal size is 8. My sister is 5'4 and wears a size 4 but she is petite like my mom whereas I'm muscular like my dad so I'm confident I'll look fantastic as an 8.
