    Getting sleeved with PCOS

I discontinued my Spiro too and the facial hair...geez. The struggle is real! My weight loss is slow and steady. I lose anywhere from 0-3 lbs a week but I'm patient. I'm a size 14 too!! I love it. I have another 30 lbs to lose. I'm hoping to end up around a size 10.

    So disappointed

First, anytime you are referring to weight from here on out, remove the word "only" from your vocabulary. ANY weight lost is a victory and success. Celebrate it! Second, you shouldn't listen or care what other people think. Even your mom. Easier said than done, I know. But this is YOUR journey and you cannot make your body lose faster than it already is as long as you are following the rules. Third, you will hit multiple stalls and you need to be mentally prepared for that. I'm 4 1/2 months post op and I just had my first week where I GAINED weight. I didn't cry. I didn't freak out. Why? I had been out of town all week and did a horrible job of getting my fluids in. Also, at your stage I was still battling extreme fatigue, depression and figuring out how to get calories in. The few calories you're eating combined with the level of working out you're doing could cause slower weight loss. I would recommend going back to your team and asking about your diet and exercise. I personally did very low carb the first 3 months then my doctor had me add some healthy carbs in. Keep your chin up and take it day by day. You'll make it to your goal. But it won't happen over just one month.

    PCOS

I'm 5'7. My highest weight was 290 (I could have reached 300 but avoided the scales because I didn't want to face the truth) and I was 261 when I decided to have surgery. I'm 194 now. Thank you! This was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I would do it all over again. :-)

    PCOS

I'm almost 5 months post op and I'm down 96 lbs from my highest weight. I'm only 34 lbs from my ultimate goal weight. Despite my Mirena IUD, I've been ovulating multiple times a month and have had quite a few periods. My facial hair hasn't changed much and my head hair has been falling out but my blood pressure and blood work is all perfect!! Hopefully the picture below will encourage you!

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond

Did u go through Mexico bariatrics? Victor is picking me and my husband up next thursday surgery on the 20th! This was rly helpful to read! I went through Specialized Bariatrics but they still used Mexico Bariatrics for some things like dietitian. I get emails from them too which is kinda weird. So I guess my answer is sort of.

    Hubby doesn't understand!

My husband was eating all kinds of bad foods in front of me after surgery. Most of the time it nauseated me but there was one time he was eating a burger and I wanted to smack it out of his hands it smelled so dang good. I had quite a few emotional meltdowns those first two weeks after surgery. It gets better. Just stay focused!
  7. I had a few "food funerals" but they were before I started my pre-op diet. I felt I had to eat those things and get it out of my system. However, once I started my pre-op diet I was pretty gung-ho. I was more terrified of my liver being too fat and getting in the way during my surgery that I stuck with my diet for four weeks and lost 14 pounds.
  8. It gets better but if I eat too fast or one bite too much I still end up having the "little burps" for about five minutes. I'm over four months post op.

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond

MONUMENTAL DAY!! I'm in Onederland. It was worth the wait. At first I was in disbelief. I weighed three times. Then I was ecstatic. Then I got very emotional because I met the goal I've been striving to meet for almost 15 years.
  10. @@BLERDgirl is a vegetarian and she's been very successful but I would think eggs and dairy would be a big part of protein for a vegetarian and if you are eliminating those this will be very difficult for you to meet protein requirements once you move on from shakes. Hopefully she can offer some more advice. Sorry, I'm a total omnivore.

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond

Hello! Another month went by and I felt like I was losing at a snail's pace. However, I still had a loss every week so I'm happy! My weight this morning was 200.6. That means I've lost 60 pounds since I started my pre-op diet 5 months ago. 60 pounds in 5 months. That's an average of 12 pounds per month. When I think of it that way I can't help but be thrilled with my progress. I will be in Onederland soon!!! Here are my updated measurements: Neck - 13 Liver - 36 1/2 Waist - 37 Hips - 43 1/2 Arm - 13 1/2 Thighs - 23 1/2 Total Neck - 2 Liver - 8 1/2 Waist - 8 Hips - 9 1/2 Arm - 3 (each) Thighs - 4 (each) My hair loss started this month so I went and got it all chopped off and lightened. I'm still losing quite a bit, hoping it eases up soon. Here's a bathroom selfie I took earlier this month

YOURE GETTIN SO FAT YOURE GETTIN UGLY!

I just assume people like that have a mental disorder and can't control what comes out of their mouth. But it would make me cry too... For example, there's an older woman who has known me my entire life. She was always the sweetest little old lady. She had been in a nursing home for a few years so we would go visit her every month. She started getting dementia and one time I went to see her she looked at me said, "You sure have gotten big!" I knew this is something she would never have said before but that doesn't mean I didn't cry about it later.

    Vegetables after weight loss surgery

It depends on how far out you are. I couldn't tolerate most green veggies one month post op but by two months it was much better. Now I've tried pretty much everything and it all does very well. The first time I tried rice it made me feel terrible and I only had one teaspoon. I just tried rice again yesterday and had that same "way too full" feeling so I'll continue to avoid it until I'm closer to my goal weight.
  15. At my heaviest, 290, I wore a 9.5-10 depending on the type of shoes. I'm down 87 pounds and now 8.0-8.5. I had to get rid of ALL of my shoes and get new ones (oh the horrors)!! My feet never looked big to me either. But I carry my weight proportionally so I've lost everywhere.

    Help!

I'm 5'7 and I was 260 when I decided to have my surgery. Now, over 3 months later I'm 203. I've never been this weight as an adult despite decades on dieting. I couldn't have done it without surgery.

    Depression?

Yes and my doctor told me my carbs had been too low for too long. After two weeks of increasing them I feel a ton better.

    What irritates your sleeve?

I'm over 3 months and most days I can eat an entire banana but not that same amount of protein. That's why it's so important to eat protein first. I can fit carbs very easily. Not a good thing!

    What irritates your sleeve?

I'm over 3 months out and I cannot handle milk but I can handle cheeses. I cannot tolerate lunch meat, it gives me terrible reflux. Regular caffeine causes heart burn. I can tolerate pretty much anything else.

    Getting sleeved with PCOS

I have PCOS and have been overweight and on a diet my entire life. I'm now at my lowest adult weight ever after only 3 months post op. This is the best decision I've ever made. I ovulate quite a bit now and I must admit, I don't miss the cramps returning...but I'll take it because it means I'm getting healthier.
  21. Wow. I'm so sorry about this. My husband lost his job almost 5 months ago and it has been very stressful so I can relate. There have only been a few times I've given in to stress eating and I always felt so terrible afterward. Everyone has a different way of handling stress so I can't really offer advice to what might work for you. But I prefer to talk with my husband, parents and pray. I CAN try to give you some good info on your situation though because 1) I'm going through it myself and 2) I also happen to be a banker so I give this advice to people monthly. There are many steps you will want to take immediately. Here is an article that lists most of them: http://everydaylife.globalpost.com/keep-house-after-losing-job-13915.html One thing this article doesn't mention is calling all of your service providers (TV, Internet, Cell phone provider, Insurance, etc.) to explain your situation and see if they can lower your bill temporarily. Dish Network agreed to lower our bill to $50 a month for a year. Internet provider is giving us a $20/mo discount for a year. Verizon dropped our bill $60/mo. Also, you need to cancel any unnecessary luxuries like gym membership, satellite radio, Netflix (unless you cancel your tv provider), etc. Here is an article with a phone number to call and see if you qualify for any help with your mortgage: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcfpb/282/i-lost-my-job-and-cant-make-my-mortgage-loan-payments-what-can-i-do.html I really hope you find a new job soon! But hopefully these tips will help you to get through the time it takes you to find a new one.

Do you miss anything about being fat?

I agree with those who miss being invisible. I've been overweight my entire life so my goal was always to blend in and never stand out in any way. If I stand out, people will notice my size and judge and critique me, at least that's how I always felt. I was so accustomed, and comfortable, being invisible that now I'm having a hard time adjusting to everyone noticing and commenting on my weight loss. Before surgery I would think people noticing and complimenting me on my weight loss would make me happy. I used to dream about it! Instead I feel vulnerable. When people comment on my weight, even though it's in a positive light, it makes me want to run and hide. Perhaps it's because my mind still has not caught up with my body. Honestly, I can't wait to hit my goal weight and the novelty to wear off so people stop talking about my weight. Then again, I'll still have to deal with all these complete strangers suddenly being nice and holding doors open for me, semi drivers honking, etc. I even had a guy hanging out a car hollering and whistling. I have never had to deal with attention from men...
  23. Soooooo happy to hear your update! It sounds like you had a textbook recovery. Sandra was my coordinator too. Isn't she the sweetest? Very attentive and reassuring. Staying hydrated is a daily job. I have to stick with a schedule or I get the tell-tale dehydration headache. It's miserable! I start my day with 20 oz of hot tea, drink 32 oz of water throughout the day, then drink another 20 oz of hot tea before bed.
