What does your doctor say? If you are not able to keep anything down specially fluids, I think you need to call him. Have you tried to get the Water a little warmer, closer to your body temperature and eating it with a teaspoon. I used to do this while I was pregnant and had horrible morning sickness. I would pretend I was eating Soup. I think because I was "eating my water" in such tiny amounts at a time, my tummy could handle it. I was told by my NUT that I would go on a prescription anti-acid after surgery to manage stomach acidity. Are you taking anything like that. Obviously I am not a doctor, I am just thinking. The burning sensation sounds worrisome but I have not had the surgery yet to be able to compare for myself. Good luck

Could it be acid? With doctor approval, of course, try a 7 day anti-acid course. With a prescription grade medicine or Prilosec - OTC like meds. I am pre-surgery but over the years I have suffered from exactly the same symptoms you state. Mine get a little better throughout the day. It seems worst when I wake up. The bloating is the worst. I was told by my GP to do the Prilosec and it always works after a few days. I have always wondered if I have a food allergy.

I have not gone through that phase yet but, I understand drinking plenty of water - over 64 oz helps. I must say yours is the most drastic 12 day diet I have seen on the boards. But it seems there is a lot of variety when it comes to pre-diet.

RJ, This is a set back but not the end of the road. Yes, there is a lot going on. It is time perhaps to break down tasks (after a little break where fun and distraction play a big role) to simple things you can do. Make a list if that helps you. Make one phone call a day on your process. I find if I move forward even if only y a small amount I feel like I accomplished something. My grandmother, the wisest woman I ever knew, would have said "don't worry about the things that you can't do. Worry about those that you can do and how you are going to do it." Start with those, as small has they maybe, they are your path to bigger and better things. Baby steps, that's how you build a great wall, a life for yourself! Make the most beautiful wall you can make. It won't be perfect but it will be your wall and it will stand as an example of the amazing individual that you are. You keep building, okay! I wish all the best, it is a journey, and this too shall pass. -
Super newbie w/ Insurance Questions!
Beni replied to readyfornewme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield, Federal Employee Program. They require a two year weight history to qualify. You have to show them you have been at a BMI above 40 or 35 with complications such as high blood pressure, diabetes or sleep apnea, etc. This is to avoid people putting on weight quickly just to qualify for bariatric surgery. Have you gone to any other doctor at all in the past 2 or 3 years where your weight was taken? At my bariatric office, they told me, I only needed 2 weight measures and they requested my GP to fax them one from 2013 and one from 2012. If you have no doctor/hospital weight history go ASAP to a GP to start one. If you don't have complications associated with weight make sure your weight is 256 lbs that day as it would place you at a 40 BMI. It's a $20 copay just go see a GP. It would be an opportunity for you to discuss your weight history (which will be recorded) and get some advice on weight loss surgery. Good luck -
Interestingly enough, I too have been going through dental issues and the solution is to do an implant on this one molar. My Bypass is 10/29 and I realize this couldn't have come at the worst time. My thinking, will the implant be able to have the necessary bone growth while I go on this gastric bypass crash diet. Probably not. Now, I too don't know what to do about my implant specially since insurance will take a week or so to approve it and that places it 2 weeks prior to surgery. Blast! No way. I may have to wait 6 months. Fortunately it's a molar but it will put a damper on my chewing for 25 minutes bariatric meal plan. I think one week after surgery may be a little soon. I would make sure all healing of your sleeve is behind you. I am terrified of blood clot complications. All of the bariatric doctors I talked to, who lost a patient or two, was due to deep vein thrombosis (aka blood clot to lungs or brain). I am not sure when the stomach would be completely healed, ask doc. If it were me, 4 weeks after would be wise.

OMG, I remembered a friend of mine (she's a nurse) talking about ketoacidosis and leg cramps with high Protein low carb diets. I looked it up and the ketone excretion process is such that it dehydrates you. More Water is indeed the solution for the leg cramps. Assuming I read this correctly on my research. Obviously, I am not a medical doctor but it is very interesting. They even sell ketone test strips for urine in the pharmacy. Diabetics use them as I found out.

Good luck to you and your decision. -
"Life is a marathon not a sprint." I have bursitis in my hip and I wouldn't risk the pain without being able to take NSAIDS for a couple weeks after (RNY can't). I have been limping for over a year even with meds. But you know your hip better then I do. Of course, 5K will feel like a bigger accomplishment but ask yourself why are you doing this race? The reason should educate the decision. Good luck with the decision. We still want to see you rocking those size 6 jeans!

I am shopping for protein these days. How do you like the Nectar protein and were do you buy it?

HI Megan, welcome to the October group. Yes, karenAllen was having exactly the same problem and her NUT told her to drink more fluids. I think she was up to 94 oz which I thought was an incredible amount since I struggle drinking 64 oz per day but it worked for her. Drink plenty of water. How much is plenty? 94 oz apparently! How much are you drinking?
-
Look at the bright side you will be able to juice after surgery (once the stomach heals) specially if you add some Protein powder to it. I think before surgery it may be best not to in the 3 days prior to surgery since you want to clear out everything inside you and natural fruit/veg stuff has bacteria unless it's cooked. I did ask my nut about it and she said it is safer to stick with apple juice and all it's added non-nutrients because a bacteria wouldn't dare live in it, lol. Your boys are so sweet!

Sleep apnea self test idea before diagnosis
Beni replied to MrsB2007's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, I hope to get cured for my sleep apnea. There's a good chance. I believe its a 58% chance if I make it to 50% of excess body weight, which is the definition of success for bariatric surgery. This would be getting to 200 lbs for me (iam 263) and 50% of patients achieve the mark. I hope to do better than average. With additional weight loss the changes are even better. How are you doing on your recovery Jolisue? -
Let's face it, the liquid diet is going to be hard. We'll have to pump ourselves up and remember we are doing this because we deserve to be healthy. Some folks have other illnesses, ours is obesity and this is what we have to do to get well. Small price for health, right? You would do it to save a loved one wouldn't you. Well you are being asked to do it for a loved one too - yourself.

Sleep apnea self test idea before diagnosis
Beni replied to MrsB2007's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh, I forgot to tell you how I found out I had sleep apnea. I was staying at a hotel with my daughter and she told me that I would snore but every once in a while it would go quiet and I would have a louder snore. She said it sounded like I wasn't breathing and then would pull in an extra strong breath. Apparently my husband, who would sleep through a bombing raid, never noticed. I too recorded myself and it sounded bad. The sleep center was able to get me an appointment in 2 days given my story. They were concerned. It turns out I had severe sleep apnea and had no clue I had it. -

I have sleep apnea and it sounds like you have it too. I am very sorry to say but 45 seconds is pretty bad. I would get that sleep study done ASAP. It is known as the silent killer because you don't know you have it. Remember the old "died peacefully in her sleep" saying. Well, no she did not! She had sleep apnea and stopped breathing and didn't wake up. I don't want to scare you and of course there is always a chance your recording is off. -
Maryland/DC/Northern VA Hospitals

My surgery is scheduled for Oct 28th at Fair Oaks. I know 4 others who also had surgery there and of course everyone at my doctor's support group. It is Center of Excellence. But there are several others in the area, including GWU, Georgetown U and Faifax H. to name a few. At GWU it will take a little longer to get scheduled as they are very busy. About 3 months once you complete all your paperwork for insurance (nutritionist visits for insurance) and and you have to see their nutritionist. At Fair Oaks depending on the doctor it may be as early as one month if your schedule is flexible. -

I have the same exact concern. I have decided the hubby and kids will have to get frozen meals. I have started the process. Every meal I fix I am making double and freezing the extra half. I will try to make 15 meals this way. I will also make sure we have some frozen options for my husband to cook. He is not a cook but he can make hot dogs, frozen pizza an hamburgers. I don't think I can handle eating with them for a while. I will eat an hour before my family does and if need be I will get dinner on the table and go for a walk or i will be in serious trouble. I also notice dinner is my worst meal. I am tired and hungry and there comes the second helping - Nope, not a chance. I don't think if I'll have the will power if I am eating with them.
