    My nightmare

Hi Kimteehee, What an ordeal. I am so glad you are okay. My bypass will be at Fair Oaks Hospital October 28th. Not too far from you.
  2. Oh good, you have done a lot already. The good news is this will help with the diabetes for sure. Keep us posted!

    Two things

I really don't get it. Why do people feel like they can comment on your weight like it's a topic for discussion. I is so rude. It's almost like telling a cancer patient he/she should stop doing so many chemo treatments. HELLO obesity is a desease. This is the cure for us. If it is your best friend, sister or mother, perhaps they can comment but only if you ask. Every time I went on a diet my mother would always say not to take it too far or I would get wrinkles. HELLO, wrinkles, really? I am 263 lbs do you not see?
  4. Get some rest, you so deserve it. What a battle. If I understand correctly the first endoscopy only stretched the opening from the stomach into intestines by a millimeter? That's a lot of effort for such small gain, no? Isn't the opening supposed to be the size of a dime? Hang in there, this too shall pass!

    Three month post-op visit

My surgeon told me, after a few months to a year, I could take NSAIDS once in a while as long as I also added a Prilosec anti-acid. The reason you shouldn't take them is because they can lead to ulcers. I wonder if there are any coated enough to allow passage through the stomach without dissolving. Also, you can take narcotic painkillers anytime, in moderation of course. I am glad your children were okay with your choice. Mine are 13, 16 and 22. One is away in College and I fear she will be worried and not keep her focus on school. The boys, they too will be "oh, okay" as well. I think, I fear they will discuss it with friends and family and I am not ready to handle the deluge of friendly attention. It's almost like I would rather get attention from success rather then everyone worrying about me. I am lucky that I have great friends but I really don't need a lot of meals being brought over and phone calls checking up on me. I so understand your "surgery by popular vote" concern. My thoughts exactly.

    October Surgery Date

Hi Amy, I have been having lots of favorite meals but in small amounts. I don't want to mess up my weight. I made a list of favorites and weave them into family meals. Favorite: pie, ice cream, pizza, cheesecake, steak, etc. I didn't blow out my diet at all. Amy, the message above was for laykee

    October Surgery Date

I am having RNY as well on Oct 28th. You'll make it. You made it this far to a decision of a lifetime. Nothing will stop us now!
  8. Congrats. I am in NOVA, VA as well. Check out the posts under October Surgery Date. There are a bunch of us in October
  9. I read the study within the last 2 weeks. I believe it was in the plastic surgery board website. Or it may have been NIH or New England Journal of Medicine. I will look for it. In addition to quality of life it stated that the removal of extra skin actually showed better results in maintaining a healthy weight several years after bariatric surgery. Patients were regaining more weight if they didn't have plastic surgery
  10. Oh, that's not so bad. I just came back from the doctors office for EKG and blood test. The results will be back in two days. It is 28 days until surgery

    After surgery

    Wow Kindle I'm impressed.
  15. I was worried about you. They'll figure it out. The endoscopy will help and this too shall pass. But it is a bummer, I agree!

    October Surgery Date

Nervous, neh! I remember the first visit I made to the Bariatric doctor's office. My knees trembled all the way back to the car. I was kind of looking around the see if people could see me shaking. I haven't felt that way since I was 12 and I was convinced I was seeing an UFO. It was not, by the way. But the more you learn about the process the more comfortable you will feel.
  18. Oh, I see. I sure hope it's only 3 months. There is only so much NUT training one can do. It will go quick. I am convinced they do it in part to allow the patient enough time to process the information and wrap her/his mind around the concept that this is going to take some work. There is an impression out there that bariatric surgery is the easy way out. It most certainly is not! I feel like it's getting in that dingy as the Titanic sinks. My choice is to take the dingy to choose life. But that dingy ride in the frigid North Atlantic is not going to be the easy way out.

    Food question

Like anything post-op, it's up to the NUT. And yes, NUTS know everything. Just a little bariatric humor!

    After surgery

You could have your husband pick you up after work. My understanding is, the day you are released from the hospital ends at the end of the day 11:59 PM. It is true at my hospital but check with yours just in case. My husband will pick me up around 6:30 PM. I was told by the hospital/doctor: You are not allowed to drive for five days after surgery and the hospital won't release you unless you have ride.
  24. How you doing Pik? Are you able to eat and drink ? Scaring is a hard one to pin point. I had a C-section and the scar was red for a long time. Maybe even a year but now you would have look very closely. I have a mid white skin tone. I tan easily and have a little olive undertone. My daughter whom we call snow white (pink undertone) scars with the whitest of scars and they are very visible even 5 years later
