  1. I know this is an old topic but I just found you all. I am having surgery with Dr Fitzer, Oct 28th . I remember Pik for other posts and Amylif2 but everyone else is new. Would love the ear from you and how things are going.
  2. This is an interesting topic because I noticed women in Europe and Asia do wear tummy control girdles after having babies. In fact, you are given a tube like elastic fabric that can be doubled and even tripled to add extra pressure as you go through recovery. At first you wear it almost like a tube dress and provides mild compression. After a while you double it and it comes from under breasts to hips. Then you triple it by folding once more when your body can handle it and it's only in the mid section at this point. I have not seen this practice in the US at all. Please understand it is not a corset. It starts as mild support. Everyone uses some sort of support even the skinny ladies. How come we don't?
  3. I am 26 days from surgery. I am exercising because I think it's a must and my doctor requires it. He and the NUT say it is crucial for my success. My experience when I had an emergency c-section was that I wished I could have depended on muscle to be able to do more once the pain meds wore off. Because I couldn't use my abs to get up from bed or even a chair I had to use arm and leg muscles. They were not up to the task because I was heavy after having a baby. We are going to have to walk post surgery to prevent blood clots, pneumonia and constipation. If our muscles are not there getting up from bed is going to be even more difficult. I also like to think that with cardio our hearts will be a little more fit for the anesthesia. But of course this is my opinion. By the way I don't do anything crazy, I just walk the treadmill, and do a few videos (yes, I said videos, that's how old they are) at home with weights and other exercises. I also find some TV content in the morning with aerobic classes. I have Direct TV. I am not ready for a gym yet as I am a snail at doing any of this but I try because I need to learn to take care of me.
  4. I am sorry girls but I don't see due diligence from either of your doctors and staff. cpower : It is my understanding, insurance will only cover weight loss surgery if your BMI is above 40 or 35 with comorbitities. Such as high blood pressure, obstuctive sleep apnea, diabetes or pre-diatetes, etc. I cannot believe you were not informed. Why were you on a 1,000 calorie diet for 2 months if your BMI was just above 40? Stephanie: The low Iron level in July with nothing done about it is just a BIG screw up. This is why I always call my doctor's office and talk to the doctor's nurse and ask for the actual levels in the blood tests. I don't accept the phone call with "all is normal" at all. I also always ask my blood pressure numbers when it is measured. The good news is both low iron and the H Pylori should be easy to fix. Just a little delay, no big deal. I would also look into why you have low iron. Heavy periods or some other condition is causing this, right? Or is it just your diet is very poor in iron? Time for supplements. My kitchen counter looks like a pharmacy with all the pills and supplements I take. The good news is, aren't you glad your doctors caught this in time to make sure it was safe to do surgery. Those are some real concerns who needed addressing. It wasn't safe to go ahead with surgery. Good Luck, life is not easy!

Now the important stuff, no red pedi for me, no pedi or mani, period. That's okay, I can deal with small setbacks. Three month post-op visit

That's too funny. Threats work too, I am told! I have a super annoying tooth. Once in a while it really bother me. I have had a consult and the diagnosis is that I should have a root canal. Of course, I don't want to do that unless I have to but I am resigned to the fact. I have scheduled the root canal twice and at least a dozen time nearly have but every single time a day or two after it is all better. I think, it knows and gets scared, don't you? Let's face it your hip is a bit on the sensitive side.
  10. Hi everyone. I'm Oct 28. There are a bunch of us October losers (17) under a topic October Surgery Date. Come check us out.

In need of someone to talk to

Hi, For me it's about getting to a place in my mind and it requires focus. A pump myself up kind of ritual. I try to plan my day really well or I get out of the house so I don't eat. Twice I have placed dinner on the table and left because I knew I couldn't handle looking at the food. Sometimes I play music really loud because it energizes me. I have a bag of tricks. I do fall of the horse but I get right back on. Good Luck!
  12. Jeez, how did that happen? But more importantly what are they going to do about it?

OCT 1ST Karen Allen, there she goes on her journey. A gladiator!
  14. Yes, they bear an uncanny resemblance. I think the American Society of Plastic Surgeons is trying to get insurance to pay for excess skin removal after bariatric surgery. Obviously, I am all for it. But of course, hard evidence will be needed such as studies to make this happen. I think it will happen eventually. I also think I saw a Swedish study along those lines. I have read so many studies in the past month. However, I only focused on making a choice regardinging which surgery to go with. The others I only glanced.

  21. I get it. Thank you for explaining. Glad you are doing a little better!

Yep, Karen Allen is the trailblazer, she goes first (lol's I have scheduled my pedi as well. The hardest decision - what color to go with?) Next we have AuriP on the 2nd Then superbariatricbabe on the 6th Then a crowd on the 7th, (6 by my count) I actually made a chart. I was getting so confused. I know, I'm special that way. If I forgot anyone please let me know!
  23. I understand much better now. The god news is 20 mil should allow drinks through nicely. I was told the opening at first is the size of a dime because it is swollen, as it heals it will be closer to a nickel. Hopefully this endoscopy will hold. Or at least not amount to only 1 mil progress. I do agree that it is a bit odd that you get to see this other doctor. I also think it's odd that one doctor pushes for Lapband and the other for bypass. I know I may just be paranoid but it almost sounds like the first one is only qualified to do Lapband and that's why he pushes it and does the endoscopies in the practice. Both easier procedures. If you end up back to square one, at some point you may want to consider a second opinion. The silver lining at this point is you are so very close to the 200 Lb mark. Most people take 6 months to get there. Way to be an overachiever! Lol
