My doctor stated I would be going home without drains. Of course, assuming there are no complications. He doesn't use catheters routinely either. Surgery is only an hour and you will be awake and up going to the bathroom a couple hours later. Sooner then a night's sleep. But I sure don't go to bed with an IV with fluids. I hope my bladder can hold! Lol. Mine is not on the largest size either. I think with every kid it shrunk. Since I have been attempting to get my 68oz of Water (have not made it except 3 times in a month) I feel it may be the size an almond. My, oh my, I sure visit the little girls room a lot (TMI). I also wonder if my doctor thinks I'm super woman. I very much doubt I will be walking around two hours after major surgery. But some doctors do drains and catheters as part of their procedure from what I have read in this board. I guess it varies.

Greasy foods are such a bad thing for me......

Also, someone mentioned it took a whole year for her to adjust to some foods. I guess we'll have to be patient and hope for the best. Oh, no pizza.... tear. It made me bloated anyway but I did like it. -

Yes, hernia. I remember now. You had the chest pain. Hum, I wonder why such sensitivity from fat. I have read other people having various food intolerances. But I have also read that they get better with time for some peope. Right after surgery your tolerance is very low specially since all the stomach enzymes are not in place, not to mention gut flora. It's like being a baby again introducing a new food at a time to see what agrees with the baby. I am not looking forward to that. -
The beginning of my journey

Betty Boop, me too, I'm having an imaginary "hiatal hernia" repair as well. I have even started complaining about it for added effect and credibility. I am also considering having some complications with my repair which will need some laproscopy to be going on my tummy, thus the extra scars. Since eating will be difficult I'll lose a lot of weight. I'll get so happy about it, this will cause me to stick to "my diet" and I will lose some more. LOL. Good Luck! Sorry I do not want to share my surgery for now. Maybe later, maybe never. -
Read your facial hair comment regarding Biotin. Great I'll have a full head of hair and a full beard by surgery date. Since I have not told anyone about my surgery this will be my new look. Lol

I need to lose 9lbs before my surgery HELP!

Super delicious: Chai tea (no caffeine) with a bit of fat free coconut milk. I poured the remaining milk from the can in an ice cube tray to freeze. This way I can add to chai. It will cool it off and add a splash of flavor. Loved it with a bit of stevia -

Well, go with what she says. There are so many approaches out there it's impossible to keep track. mine thinks most people are lactose intolerant and don't know it and lactose is hard to digest. At least now that you know there's this out there be mindful of any reactions you may have. I am only following for the first few weeks, until I heal anyway. Whey Protein is okay which covers most protein out there. I did notice as I went shopping today the Muscle Milk says lactose free but has whey protein (from milk). By the end of this we'll be experts. All the best tomorrow my friend. -
I know, perhaps hair loss is unavoidable but guess who went to buy some Biotin today. I purchased the highest dose available which is a tiny pill. 23 days until surgery, I'm getting a head start on my hair, lol. My skin and nails probably need all the help they can get as well. Wish me luck!

Didn't you have your glallbladder taken out? I believe that may be the reason. Only healthy food for you my friend, not a bad thing, right? If that was the worst it would be okay. -
Well, superbariatricbabe is our next gladiator. Oct 6th surgery date. Go get them babe.We expect nothing else but a smooth day tomorrow and a full report, especially since my surgery is at the same hospital. What time is your surgery? Thinking of you all the way!

Bandista, Lymes is horrible. My son is 13 and went form being the healthiest boy to walking with crutches. He started meds 2 days after symptoms because he was lucky to have developed an ear infection from the cold/flu like symptoms but it wasn't until 2 1/2 weeks later that he started Doxy as the symptoms progressed. But my doctor said usually they treat children with Amoxicilin anyway. I saw three doctors because I thought he was dying. He could hardly get up or walk. Even had to get a hinged brace for one knee. But he appears to be all better. Where your symptoms bad?

I need to lose 9lbs before my surgery HELP!

I lost 7 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks with a bariatric diet. I am practicing to eat just as if I had Bypass already but with bigger portions. 3 meals a day without meal skipping. Breakfast within 2 hours after you wake up:, lean protein (chicken, pork, beef, fish, eggs, seafood, cheese, etc) veggies and the tiniest amount of carbs. I allow myself a table spoon of rice, potatoes, bread, etc. No sugar either No liquids 15 minutes before meals, no liquids 30 minutes after meals Each meal has to be chewed without drinking for 20 to 25 minutes. This is super slow. I put a show on or I go stir crazy Drink 64 oz of water the rest of the day, and yes, that's a lot of water. I also allow a snack mid afternoon, again low carb and no sugar. Yogurt is my fave and a piece of fruit. I also like a quest bar and a piece of fruit. I was actually losing weight so fast I had to add more food and I did end up making the portions bigger. I noticed if I had anything carb or sugar I did feel more hungry. Stay away from them, they are evil. Best part, I am never hungry. -

Correction. Just read all my paperwork again. It only has to be lactose free. Whey protein which is from milk is fine, my bad -

Hi super bariatric babe, Your doctor's NUT may have said something different but mine said for the two week post surgery period the Protein had to be lactose free. Absolutely no milk protein. I noticed the one you recommend is a milk protein. Apparently your stomach can't digest milk protein after surgery for a while. It causes stomach pain and I think that's what is bothering a lot of people. I have though of telling them but since i am a newbie and pre-surgery I didn't think I had the street cred. Eventually you'll be able to have it. Soy protein turns out is what I had to buy. Not as tasty. Sorry, hate to burst your bubble but then you may have been told differently. -
Yes, call him. I had the same situation. I even told his secretary, what is going to take to get this report faxed? Do I need to go sit in the office all day?It was faxed in less then an hour. Someone had forgotten to do it.

Where to begin my friend? Just kidding, but indeed there is a lot to learn but you will get there. Read as much as you can, research, then research some more!

I wonder, has anyone thought of a wig. They have the most beautiful wigs (not sure how to get one though) these days. I have to go to a wedding 9 months after Bypass. I HAVE to look amazing, no ifs or buts.

Sassy redhead: I think, and this is based in a lifetime of experience, diet and exercise work for some people but not for others. I wonder, and I am sorry for being cheeky (I am in no way poking fun at patients with cancer), if you had cancer and went through all lengths to save your life, would anyone have told you you didn't have too much cancer, it's only a little one you can suck it up and deal with it buttercup. Well, you have a disease, it's called obesity. Your's perhaps is not a very advanced case of it but you know you have it and so do I. What is the cure for your disease? I'm not sure, I am not a doctor. But you and your doctor will have to figure out what is the best way to deal with it. Going home to deal with cancer on your own is not an option, right?

By the way on the anti-inflamatory: My son had Lyme's disease and our Family doctor recommended Turmeric as it is a good anti-inflamatory and it would give his stomach a break because he was taking such strong antibiotis Doxycycline which upset your stomach. You wouldn't want to add NSAIDS to the mixture who further upset your stomach. He had swollen painful joints.

Now we know why all those skinny old folk move to Florida, lol! -
Chelly, how do you manage your reactive hypoglycemia?

Oh, thank you for bringing up boredom. I have started a room in the house where I'll hangout for recovery. I had a C-section with a very slow recovery. I'm not going to get caught in that situation again. Must plan what to do while I "hang out" because I get bored very easily. There is only so much TV I'll be able to watch in a day, right?

You know, "The Christmas Sweater" I could never wear one. I would boil to death in one. Trust me it's hard to find a party outfit for the holiday season in size 20W in a lightweight fabric. I probably lose 10 pounds every season looking for one. Perhaps I'll get to wear a sweater someday. -
You may want to find out what is in that glue, used to close up surgical wounds, could you be allergic to it as well?
