Here's the really good news, some patients go home from the hospital with completely normal blood sugar levels and a lot shortly there after. With any luck at all, your diabetes pills will be gone. I take Metformin. They are round and reasonable sized pills but I also purchased a pill crusher just in case

4 Months out and feeling great!

Did you have a leak 3 weeks out? I think it's terrible they sent you home after that first ER visit. Wow, you are doing fantastic.

With my CPAP (and i have adjusted it every way possible), I have to take pain meds before I go to bed or the headache wakes me up, then I have to take meds in the morning because last nights meds wore of and now my head hurts again. I was asked not to take any NSAIDS for 30 days prior to surgery. Guess who is having a great time with her CPAP tonight, ME

Let me restate that, my doctor is having me do 3 days of clear liquids. I would never volunteer

I am doing 3 days of clear liquids. It's a cleanse, no doubt about it.

I, of course, will waltz in someday to the sleep Specialist follow up having dropped a substantial amount of weight (knock on wood) and inform her that her CPAP machine has cured my obesity. The truth is, I hate it so much, I stopped at nothing to get to where I don't need it. f that's not a cure I don't know what is
  7. yes, get help. The psy is a good idea. WLS is hard on your body. I can tell you in a normal day if I ate only what a WLS patient eats I would be so hungry/angry I would be a BEAR.

I plan on burning my CPAP on a send off. It does not like me and I return the favor

Look at us we are raving about hospital ice chips, we don't get out much!

The plan is staying two days but the first day counts as one. I'm going to ask for 1/2 off since I don't get my surgery until 2:30 PM. I'm sure they'll be okay with that - NOT. But then my NUT said usually you stay 2 nights. A part of me wants to go home ASAP but you may not be able to get enough fluids and become dehydrated. IV fluids in hospital, sip, sip at home not nearly as efficient.

Yes, I'm going to have to get to the bottom of this. I think that "nothing after midnight" was before they realized my surgery was at 2:30 PM. I want my ice chips.

I am laughing so hard at layknee's comment on "eat what?" I had to run to the bathroom so fast I nearly didn't make it

Cruel and unusual punishment. I am to drink water like crazy in prep for WLS but then on the day of the surgery I'm not supposed to drink for 14 1/2 hours. That's kind of like running a marathon and then made to wait 14 1/2 hours to cross the finish line. Bizarre! Well, Im sure my doctor doesn't need my plumbing full of water to operate

Mine is at 2:30 and I can't have anything to eat or drink since midnight the night before. What am I supposed to do until 2:30 without even a sip of water?

    ARRRGGGGHHHHH! my mother #$)&(*U#)(*

I know it's this ever smaller circle of interest and inward looking that gets to me in watching my parents age. It's so hard to watch

    Hello from Norway

Great job James Marusek. You lost a lot of tummy and many not so welcome co-morbs. How long did it take to lose the sleep apnea?

@@jessiquoi, now you know why I have not told my mother. I am fortunate I don't live near my mother ( I love her to death, too) or I wouldn't be able to pull this off. I do not need the stressed out, daily phone call asking how I'm doing and what she just read, and what her friend told her, and why I am losing too much weight and blah, blah, blah. In my opinion as our parents age their lives become ever smaller circles. Any little old thing fills the circle and overwhelms the system.

    Pre Op Diet

Yes, me and my Water are not friends, because if we were, I wouldn't forget it all the time. I know I'm being silly but focusing on food is not my strong suit. That's why I get in trouble. I get so busy I forget to eat and then I am so hungry I can eat a cow. Place your phone in your pocket or nearby on alarm vibrate for the time to drink shake, it may help . Good luck!
  19. I love, love, love how you say "I drink it like it's really good." On the bright side, our big girl panties are getting smaller, lol. A little Bariatric humor!
  20. I am not a fan at all of the shakes I have tried. I had read so many post of others stating Protein shakes made them gag. I was, boy there are such picky people out there. I on the other hand, hardly have ever met a food I didn't like. Well, here goes my apology to the world, at least some are horrid. chocolate Muscle Milk made me want to throw up, I even wondered if I had the flu. I also burped for hours. It couldn't have been anything I ate prior. It had been 4 1/2 hours since Breakfast. Having said all that, I will drink my shakes like a good little (to be) girl. It's wonderful you are trying your best and Protein Shakes to keep you full and curb hunger. Which ones do you like? On the mental side of things, I am so distracted by my upcoming surgery (OCT28) I find it hard to focus and get anything done. I'm not depressed, just obssesed. I guess the last time I felt this way was when expecting my first child. I had to read everything.

    Hello from Norway

Hi @aircooled. My wake up call was pre-diabetes. Once my blood sugar level passed that magical barrier into pre-diabetes and the: it's only a matter of time until you get Type 2 diabetes. A switch went off inside my head. I went on a diet immediately. Even taped a picture of a syringe by my bathroom scale to remind me of what I was up against. I kew for sure this was it, I was going to get healthy - no more denial, I have a serious problem. Well I did lose 20 lbs but life got stressful, I did great during the day but by dinner time I was exhausted and hungry - well weight loss became slow weight gain. I then realized I was NEVER going to be able to do this on my own. If even diabetes didn't provide motivation. Nothing would. My bypass is OCT 28.

I don't know why but I am on pins and needles about all the gals in our group who had surgery already. I feel like the mother duck looking for her ducklings. I constantly check in looking for updates. It's kind of silly because I am not getting any work done.

    Mother is on my tail!

esskay77, how did you get so wise? It must be in part due to WLS. Funny enough, I did read a study concluding that it does just that. Apparently losing the weight and getting healthy does affect cognition. All joking aside your post above is spot on. You put just as I will once I get my RNY and get smarter...lol. But I am not there yet! Good advice my friend!
