Hey October sleevers, what are you eating?!
rumpole6 replied to stac3031's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am able to eat 3-4 ozs of protein as long as it is moist, In terms of other things, I can only eat about an ounce or two but as long it is easily digestible its been fine. I've been stating away from raw veggies but I hope to get clearance for salads and green beans at my appt this week. -
I've had Wendy's chili and Cosi Chili with no problems. I'd say you could give it a try.
-
I use a prescription nasal spray twice a day. If I need it I take claritin. Claritin has a melt on your tongue version otherwise I'd just swallow it without a problem.

Hi all. I am now in the dreaded 3 week stall and I am trying really hard not to freak out about it because it is sort of expected, at least out here in "patient land". My Dr.Never mentioned it. The question is do you think that we elders lose slower than the youngsters? I am 4 weeks post op, I am in a stall and I have only lost 9 lbs since surgery, at least according to my scale. (The Drs scale reads heavier, but that is due to randon times of day, fully dressed vs buck naked, etc) If you include pre-op diet, I have lost a more respectable 21 lbs and over all I am happy with that, but I guess I was expecting more. I feel like I am eating nothing getting in my 70 gs of Protein and 7-900 cals/day. Barry

I am in!. I got my sleeve on Oct 13.2014 and am in the soft foods stage.

I drink one shake unless I think I will miss my protein goal. If I am thinking I will miss my protein goal I will have a 2nd shake for one of my snacks. That doesn't happen too often.

Slower than expected Weight Loss in the beginning
rumpole6 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am very early days, two weeks post-op as of today and I am not seeing the results I expected. I was really hopeful because i lost 14 lbs on the preop diet, but week one I lost 3.5 lbs and week 2 I lost 2.5 lbs for a total of 6t lbs post-op. With the 14 pre-op Its a total of 20 over three weeks so I am not sure what I am complaining about but I expected more since calories are so low. I am tempted to chalk this up to age, or unrealistic expectations, but my surgeon told me way back when that I might lose 30 lbs in the first month, and that doesn't seem possible now unless I include the preop weight loss and even then it might not be possible. I've gone back to work and the increased activity of that may help accelerate the weightloss, I hope. I would love to hear how others our age (58 at surgery) did in the very early days. Best Regards, Barry -
I think mine is starting to increase a little as the weight is starting to come off. But it didn't drop off after surgery, it was kind of non-existent beforehand.

Hi everyone, Surgery is one week from tommorow and I am worried about taking my pills. I purchased a chewable multiple-cite and need to get a chewable calcium citrate, the d vite is small and the b12 is small. But the surgeon has cleared me to resume my bp and heart medicine immediately the day after surgery and I am a little afraid of that. The nut told me to just space them out but on the other hand you need to strain your soup so you don't get the little bits. No one on the medical team seems to see this as a contradiction so I will strain my soup and pace out my pills. Does anyone have a similar situation?

I am going on the 13th so I am really on the roller coaster emotionally. I don't do clear liquids until after the process . I do 1000 calories a day I've only been hungry 1 or two times. I try to keep busy to stop my mind from wandering to scary thoughts

Start Pre-op diet today and I'm starving!
rumpole6 replied to luiggib's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Day 4 of the preop diet. I am on 2 shakes and 2 frozen dinners (think lean cuisine). Yesterday was really tough and I ended up going to bed really early. Today is tough too because I work in a high stress environment. So today I went for a little walk on lunch just to feel a little better, which worked for a while. Now I will push the Water down even though I am floating and try to hang on until 4pm snack. I can do this! I am determined to do this so I keep on plugging. Bring on the sleeve! -
One week before surgery...getting really nervous
rumpole6 replied to Lesile65's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think its perfectly normal, too. I go the day before you but I really felt so much better about things after the preop with my surgeon and the nutritional class. It does seem true that the worst two weeks will be the first two weeks, but my nutritionist said everyone is different and some people can start on the pureed phase early. I might be too afraid to try that early, though, even if things are going well. Also, at least my surgeon said they test for leaks while you are still asleep and if they find them they fix them right away. And rarely do they see leaks afterward. -
They told me check with the pharmacist because some meds lose effectiveness crushed. I do plan on cutting the bigger ones

Today is day one of the 1000 cal diet What is strange though is as of now I've exceeded the protein by 10 at 90g but calories are low at 850. It's early and I would like a snack but it will make the protein even higher. I don't know what to do. Should I stop once I hit my protein goal?

So I was wondering if desire would come back. Thanks for giving me hope.

Start Pre-op diet today and I'm starving!
rumpole6 replied to luiggib's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I am only doing it for 10 days because that is all there is between now and my big day. My diet is 2 shakes plus 2 lean cuisines, keep your calories between 950 and 1050. I think that is pretty spartan with my unsleeved stomach but I am so pysched and motivated that I will do whatever it takes,, one day at a time. My coping strategy is I am planning on going to bed early because night-time is when I usually do the most of my excess eating. I really hate that I need such a severe strategy but I know it works from previous attempts. and "works" is what I need. -
Hmmm. I had a hiatal hernia diagnosed during the barium swallow test and the PA told me the probably won't do anything about it. That kind of bothered me because now that I know about it I want it fixed. Another thing they told me is that I am a slow swallower and its another thing they don't do anything about. I am telling you, I didn't think I was all that healthy before I started this journey but all these little picayune things they discovered make me feel even sicker. Bring on the sleeve!
-
Absolutely, even with the sleeve, this is going to be one day at a time. I am making the changes as well. The next step for me is after the nutrition class to be starting the preop diet which is rumored to be Protein shakes and one lean cuisine. but I am not sure exactly when it will be starting.

Just got my surgery date for Oct 16
rumpole6 replied to luiggib's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am going to have my surgery the 13th and I have my nutrition class on Oct 2. I will I guess start my preop diet shortly after that depending on when they want me to start and when I can get prepared for that. It is really getting close. -
Now that things are getting really close, I am starting to have some very strange thoughts. For instance, i usually avoid looking at myself in the mirror, but lately I have been looking and wondering what and who I will see on the other side. I have been having thoughts in that vein a lot. I would love to know if people are experiencing similar things.

Welcome aboard. I think we are all feeling the nervousness. I have my NUT class on Oct 2 and will probably start he preop diet shortly after that. I am hoping to get the 4 shakes and a lean cusuine diet as otherwise I will be on liquids straight through for a very long time.
-
I admire your confidence. If I joined the forum based upon when I thought I'd be getting it I would be in June lol

Hi, I am getting the sleeve (hopefully) and I decided to worry about whether they would be shaving my chest and gut entirely or just enough to put the electrodes on and to allow room for the incisions?
-
This is certainly getting very real and good luck to us all. I just had my updated cardiac clearance scheduled Oct 1. The remainder of my preop stuff on Oct 2 and I imagine the liquid diet very shortly after that. Its hard to concentrate at work already!
-
Hi all, I am thrilled, nervous, excited, terrified to finally have my date scheduled on oct 13. My preop physical, nutrition class and preop blood work is scheduled for 10/2 and this whole process took so long that I need to get my cardiac clearance updated before I go in. I need to schedule that tomorrow. So it's really. Great I found this room and look forward to going through this together . Is anyone interested in being an email pal? Just let me know!
