For those of you with kids ... How do we deal with the huge amounts of candy? I haven't had a piece since surgery or any dessert for that matter but it hasn't been in the house either! I wish I could skip the entire night except I kind of love everything else.

Any Torah observant Sleevers?
Bndtoslv replied to Segulah613's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi I am curious, do you have a rabbi who said that the surgery is against the Torah? I find that strange since I know many orthodox and very observant jews with many forms of bariatric surgery. It would never have occurred to me to discuss this with my rabbi since Judaism clearly supports life and health over any other law. I would be curious to hear what your rabbi said about this since you seemed to feel that it was against the torah. -
Can we talk about Halloween candy?
Bndtoslv replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
All of you seem to be able to be done with this is one day!! I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old who have been planning for this day for months! They will bring home a huge bag. Last year I didn't eat much but I am worried about eating even a little this year! -

What about the candy collected by your kids? -
I think it sounds like you are doing great. I have my 3 month checkup tomorrow and have lost somewhere around 40. I start worrying that it isn't enough or "average" and then I remind myself that I am insane and 40lbs in 3 months is great!! I would be thrilled with 60lbs by 6 months. That is 12 bags of sugar.

218 this morning (217.2 yesterday afternoon but put down the 218) Thanks for doing this!!!

I may be crazy but I measure every single thing that goes into my mouth at home. So if I had a plate of tuna and only ate 1/2 I'd measure before and after then enter the final number into my fitness pal. I just estimate while I'm away but I think I'm more accurate at eyeballing since I measure at home constantly.

I have very young kids. The first month was hard but by the end of week 1 I was taking care of them. At about 6 weeks I was on vacation with them without dh and had more energy than before surgery. I never could have done that before surgery. By this September ( 2-21/2 months out) when preschool and k started I was filled with energy and walking 10,000-15,000 steps per day walking everywhere (live in a city). It has been growing and getting better ever since.

Classy.I've been following the sleeve threads for a few months now and noticed that YOU seem to have a problem with most people on this forum and only respond in a condescending tone, while ignoring the question asked. Again, my question was asking what size bougie you have. If you don't care about what I'm asking, why did you respond? I don't get it. You comment on so many threads that I read with irrelevant eye-rolling responses or you're either attacking someone in each thread. Just like you're doing now. Omg I am so glad you pointed this out! I noticed it's always the same people with the same attitude that feel as if they need to comment their useless opinion on things that apparently don't even concern them. I don't get it?! ASUgrad posted a legit question, like most of us she has her concerns about her journey. And all of you, with the a*****e mentality, of forcing your journey on others with this condescending tone should just keep your words to yourself if you can't provide any type of real support. I have noticed a lot of people leaving the forums and being too scared to even express themselves, out of fear of being bullied or judged on the question they might have. Honestly you all should be ashamed! This is a public forum and judgement free zone. Everyone's journey is their own and how dare you sit here and pretend your better than everyone else, simply by utilizing what works for you. I used to seek comfort in these threads and support until I saw it's always the same assholes posting a ridiculous amount of their own personal journey, totally bullying others to the point that most threads seem to be having the same few people. Yes we know you did it, you had VSG and now you're the fuckin expert. Now please sit down and allow others to please share their fears without fear of retaliation. I thought this was a super interesting question and am following this thread and am thankful you asked this question! Huh. What I've noticed is that most veterans leave because they are spoken down to by "newbies" who don't appreciate the voice of experience, "newbies" who get upset if they don't get coddled and catered to. Most vets don't NEED to be here but choose to be in order to pay it forward. I've lost my weight. I've not only maintained my weight loss for over a year and a half, but I've learned what I need to do for a lifetime. I could stay in the vet's forum for support, or I could offer words to people who are pre-op and newly post-op just as vets before me did for me. I have no problem with the question, just as I have no problem with the replies until people start getting attacked because they didn't answer exactly "right". Name calling is NEVER ok and it's bizarre to me that the person calling "bully" is also throwing out words like "a*****e" and "fuckin expert". (Classy, right?) Yes. This discussion is important and it is relevant, I agree. I don't think it would be nearly as informative and educational, though, if everyone simply answered with a number. I disagree with you saying that "vets" don't need to be here. I would wager that vets need to be here as much or more than anyone else. I am a "newbie" to sleeve surgery but coming up on 9 years a veteran to wls. It gets MUCH harder 4,5,6,7 years out. You sound quite green.

What did your FEET do?
Bndtoslv replied to bellabloom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Mine too! -
What Babbs said. After surgery never aim for stuffed or "full" in my 2 experiences with this it means too full. Eat the amount you are supposed to as per doc and wait to feel satisfied. I didn't follow this rule and was miserable last night!
-
You are losing very quickly. I had my revision on 6/30 and am down about 41. I do think revisit patients lose a bit slower but I am very pleased with my own progress and you should be too!

Is it better to get your band out first?
Bndtoslv replied to DonnaMaria's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had mine in 2 parts. My doctor wouldn't do it any other way. He said it reduces chance of leaks and increases likelihood of well-shaped sleeve. -
Does anyone have losses only certain days of the week? I was looking at my log and I always lose Tuesday -Friday. No recorded losses on the weekend! Must be something to do with salt no? I always feel down in the dumps Monday when I post my challenge loss because I am usually exactly the same as on Friday or Thursday and then like clockwork Tuesday I lose. I'm thinking I eat out more on the weekend so it much be water retention since my actual intake is comparable.

Surgery 6/30. Highest (surgery weight) 260. Current weight 219

Have you checked your b-12?
-
Are you lifting weights. My nutritionist feels that cardio and weight work should be in equal parts for women. Cardio makes you hungry and weight training builds lean muscle which raises your metabolism.

At first I thought that was it but I don't think it shows up on scale immediately. I think there is a delay.

Same as last week. 219.8. Sorry I was late I was away!

Is it possible to get more than 80grams of protein without shakes?

That's all very helpful thanks! -
Is it possible to get more than 80grams of protein without shakes?
Bndtoslv posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can someone show me how you do it? Like a sample menu? I'd like to try increasing my protein intake above 80 and keep my calories around or under 800. Currently I have egg whites for breakfast and lean protein and beg for dinner and lunch. Snack is generally a piece of cheese and or lunch meat. I'd love suggestions that doesn't include using shakes (they make me gag)! I am 3 months out. Thanks! -

Bndtoslv replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't see how I can add a snack without adding calories! I really can't do the protein drinks anymore! Also my surgeon discourages use at this point. I'm concerned because my hair is starting to fall out!! -
I know how u feel. I'm worried too! I had band in 2010 and then 2 kids 2 yrs apart. My reflux is terrible. I'm not sure if when I pushed during delivery that something slipped but I am in the process of having revision. I know that even though I LOVE food I will b able to control myself and eat in moderation as I'm supposed to and I will be exercising more and will enjoy my new lease on life!!!!!! Probably due to pregnancy. Both my sister and I had band problems and removals after each having 2 kids.
