I'm currently in a weird place. 6 years out from my gastric bypass, 33 weeks pregnant, and on a feeding (nj) tube because I have a peptic ulcer and stricture so bad that I cant even keep water down. This is my first time having a stricture diagnosis. From what I'm told it is one of the worst most of the doctors here have seen. They had to navigate a wire through the stricture first just so they could have a feeding tube get in to my intestine. Doctors are thinking a ballooning of the stricture wont work because there is a lot of scar tissue. Surgery/ revision was mentioned. Has anyone had a surgery to correct this issue before? What was the down time? I currently have to wait 3 weeks to have my baby, then schedule a surgery. I'm just trying to see what the road ahead will look like. I haven't eaten anything since Thanksgiving and am going a little crazy not even being able to keep water down orally.

I have Tricare South/Humana and I have had the best experience with them. Nothing but fast approvals and all the bills getting paid. Today would have been almost $3,000 in lab work. All paid for. So happy

Family meals after surgery
jems replied to cnjashton's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cooking while on the pre op diet will be hard. That was the toughest part, even being around food when on liquids. After surgery I was fine. I could cook and it didn't bother me at all. I had no interest in food for 2 weeks. My husband and 2 year old didn't mind frozen pizza and soup and grilled cheese if I had a sleepy day though. -

Recovery when you have little kids
jems replied to AWholeNewMama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the rny on Dec 17 2014. Going for my first check up on Thursday. I only spent 1 night in the hospital. My mom is here, staying for a total of 5 weeks to help me with my 2 year old. I feel like I could do more, but waiting for the surgeon's approval. Currently have a 10 lb weight limit for lifting. Not being able to pick up my daughter is the hardest part. -
I know the surgeon will say when sex is okay. My question is about oral. Has anyone had any problem with giving oral after surgery? Swallowing obviously being the questionable part. If it was an issue/ problem did it get better? Thanks in advance.

Surgery went spectacularly. No complications and I got to go home 24 hours later. Now at home keeping up with my liquids and vitamins.

Surgery day has arrived. Goodbye fat self. Looking forward to never seeing you again. Hopping in the shower and then offer to the hospital. Let's do this.

Has anyone had any positive post op experiences?
jems replied to berkeleycurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery less than 24 hours ago and feel great. Some slight gas pain, and some drain tube pain, but I am feeling fantastic. At 12 hours after surgery I walked around my floor of the hospital for an hour straight. I've had no nausea but did have some wicked cotton mouth for the first few hours. No regrets. -
Surgery went really well. Only pain is from the drain. already walked 3 laps around the floor and am drinking fluids with ease. Major success! Hope everyone else is doing well too!

Is the nutribullet safe to purchase for making healthy drinks after having bypass
jems replied to gillumd's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
A nutribullet isn't a juicer. It is more a personal sized blended and would be great to purchase. Typically when "no juices" is said, it is referring to fruit juice as it is so sugary/ full of carbs. However, making shakes is a great way to get your protein in. You can also look up hand blenders or immersed blenders. -
Have you been tested for reactive hypoglycemia?

Trimming for now. I prefer Brazilian wax though. Not worth getting it right now. After surgery and the weight starts coming off, I will be back on the wax train.

Lol. Thanks. I've seen people talk about sex and libidos changing but I felt like a perv for asking. Thanks for responding.

I'm hoping to be at an 8/10 when I hit my goal. I don't really have a number for weight set. I've never been in the normal range.. just hoping to get close to that. I am 5'7.5" 250 lbs and a size 18 currently. Surgery is Dec 17th.

Why I am choosing not to share my WLS with the world.
jems replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
So I just saw this and I love it. I never thought how telling someone about WLS could make it almost define you to that person. You don't owe anyone any explanation. It is your body. I just think I would feel almost guilty for omitting it. But I am not judging you or anyone who feels different from me. Cheers. -
Comparing someone that can see you lose weight and asking how you did it, and if your neighbor can get erections on his own is obsurd. That is where I don't see the relevance. People can see weightloss and are curious, they may not flat out ask about WLS, but they may.. I for one don't go asking people about their sex life, but I have asked about weightloss.

Would a ring size change after surgery?
jems replied to gwunderle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fingers do shrink. Depending on how much you need to lose it could change a few sizes. I'm currently waiting for my wedding ring to fit again. -
That is fantastic! Keep it up.

As of now, only a few of my family members know and 2 friends. I am not telling the world... just yet. While I know I am going to do everything I can to make the most out of my tool, a small part of me is afraid of failure, because as most of you know yoyoing sucks and diets fail. I know this isn't a diet, but a new way of living, but as it is new (surgery scheduled in December) I haven't "succeeded" yet. I think after I have had the surgery and made progress I will open up about it. It really is no one else's business what I do with my body, but if someone asks me how I did it, I will be 100% honest. I know I would feel lied to of my dad, who had RNY told me he lost his 100+ pounds by "just diet and exercise" alone.. and that I could do the same. I've tried diet and exercise and succeeded briefly but ultimately failed. That is why I am having the surgery. I don't want to discourage someone into thinking they can magically only eat 1/2 cup of food for a meal and feel full. In my opinion that would be lying by omission. Obviously, not everyone here agrees. And that is fine. That is just how I feel about it and what I plan to do. I wish everyone well on their journey.

I understand the being "voluntold" thing. Army wife here. And i understand the not wanting to be at functions at a high weight. I was recently the Maid of Honor at my sister's wedding. Oh the pictures I wish I could burn of myself. But, I am going to view it as my "before" weight pictures and be excited at myself and my accomplishments. Those pictures will soon be a reminder of how far you've come. We can do it! Keep your chin up.
