  1. My weight gain journey began in May, 2013. I was exposed to black mold a few months prior in our master bathroom of a house we had just purchased. Unaware of it of course. May 2013, I had to have half of my right lung removed. After the lung removal I was forced to take nine months of oral steroids. During this nine months I gained another person in weight. September 2014, I was well enough to finally have the sleeve done. I tried to lose the weight on my own but anyone who has been on steroids for that length of time knows it is nearly impossible. I have since lost that extra person I gained. And couldn't be happier. The first picture was taken by my surgeon the week before surgery. The second picture was taken last week. My starting weight at surgery time was 222. My current weight is 125, as of this morning. I am 5'4 1/2.
  2. I had the sleeve. And thank you very much.
  3. I had the sleeve. Didn't have any excess skin. I started working out six weeks from surgery. Husband put in a full gym In our home for me. He worked out with me. No skin removal. Didn't need it apparently because I started so soon. I only work out four days a week now. But consistent. My best exercise is our pool. I started that the week after surgery. I get in pool daily. Best thing ever.
  4. Thank y'all so much. So self conscious. But I did it. And it was amazing.
  5. Yikes. First bathing suit of the year. Bbq tonight with friends. I'm actually excited about it.
  6. First pic was taken just before surgery sept 2014. Second picture me today. Starting weight 222 wearing a size 16 jean. Today weighing in at 126 and wearing a size 0.
  7. Since my journey began in September 2014 I set a goal to run a 5k. I accomplished that goal yesterday. Finishing the 5k in 26 minutes. I began my journey at 222 pounds. pounds.
  8. I paid 12,100 no financing. I'm in Texas.
  9. I have a desk job. I had my surgery on a Thursday. Went back to work the following Monday. Zero complications other than feeling a little tired. That's it.

    Today's WIN!

My win for today. I hit my GOAL this morning. Surgery last week of September 2014. Starting weight was 222. This morning stepped on scale for first time in a month. BAM! 124.8. Goal was 125. Weight I was when I got married 11 years ago.
  11. I went to see my doctor yesterday for my one year appointment. It went exceptionally well. Before I left my doctor and his PA explained to me that they have support group meetings on Tuesday nights. They stated that they had several individuals that were still struggling both physically and mentally with the surgery. They have both pre op and post op patients that attend. They asked me if I would be willing to lead the groups and talk about my success and that the goal is attainable if you allow it to be. Now here is my dilemma. I was honored they felt I could help. But me, who has been successful in my journey with lots of hard work, going into a group with struggling individuals would that make them feel worse about their struggles and their journey? I feel like it would be going in bragging because I have been doing so well. But the doctors didn't see it that way. They believe that i can help the others see that this can work. That I am proof. THOUGHTS? I have posted my before picture, taken day before surgery last year, and my after picture that was taken Wednesday of this week.

Do you really need a hospital buddy?

My surgery was outpatient. Arrived at 6 am. Surgery at 7 am. Discharged at 5 pm. But if I had to stay I would have been fine alone. The nurses were amazing.
  13. My doctor just asked me this question last Friday. I TOTALLY see the skinny me now. I let that fat chick that I once was go around month 6. I'm on month 14 now. Starting at 222 and now at 135 I love mirrors again. And selfies. Lol. And the new wardrobe. Boy oh boy I could go on and on.

    Hair falling out!

It happens sadly. But it does stop as quick as it starts. Mine started around month 4. But by month 6 it was done. I lost hair, yes. But it wasn't so bad that anyone else noticed it but me and my hairdresser.
  15. It's right around the corner. I had my surgery within two weeks of my first appointment, and like you, thought the day would never arrive. Longest two weeks of my life. Best of luck to you. You will be happy you chose this surgery. Best thing I have ever done for myself.
  16. First thing I would say is to keep an open mind through the entire process. From the first doctor appointment on. You will have many highs and lows along the way. But the end result is totally worth it. Make sure to ask as many questions as you can think of. Being informed is what helped me in the early days of doctor appointments and then the first few weeks post op. I wish you and your wife the best of luck in the adventure you are about to begin. You will be so glad you made this choice.
  17. I had my surgery September 2014. I have lost 87 pounds. Starting weight was 222. Current weight this morning 135. Best decision I have ever made. My journey was very easy. No complications all.

    Support group help

Thank you all so much for your thoughts. I have decided that tonight I will be going to the support group. I am a little nervous since I don't do well speaking to a group of people. I want to help encourage as many I individuals as I can.
  19. I have posted in this thread months ago. Now that I am one year out decided to update my after photo. First picture was taken September of 2014. Second picture was taken this November 4, 2015.

    Support group help

Kate, same here. I don't know anyone personally that has had sleeve surgery either. A friend of mine had lap band two years ago. I chose a different path.

    Support group help

Thank you so much Kathy. That certainly makes me feel so much better about going for it. That is exactly what my husband said last night too. I still have my journey to complete. I'm not at goal yet. But I am certainly proud so far.

    Support group help

Thank you very much for your thoughts. Maybe I can agree to a trial run and attend a couple of them and see how each of us feel.

    Support group help

Thank you so much for your feedback. I have struggled with this so much since last night. I spoke to my husband about it at length last night and he agrees that I should do it. He stated that if I could help one person see the long term goal is attainable and to just allow it to happen then my presence was worth it. I just don't want anyone to feel worse about their personal journey of they are struggling so much right now. My heart hurts for each of them because we all know this journey we embarked on was a hard one.

Thank you very much. Definitely going to be a challenge while working full time too.
