Surgery is Monday morning for me and I have been on clear liquids and meal replacement shakes since the 19th. I have lost 20lbs since then... It Works!! I had two little mini meltdowns... One day I wanted a freshly made biscuit my mother made and the other she came home with leftover shrimp and french fries... so I just went to bed lol.. Im surprised how well I have handled it. Hopefully that translates to an easy recovery and beyond... you can do it!!

Update: weighed myself today... since last Friday when I began my liver reduction diet, I have lost 20lbs... thats 30lbs gone since the end of july. I finally have hope that this will help things all work out huzzah!!

Hello all... Im new to the forum. I have been researching WLS for about 8 years and finally made the decision to have the Sleeve in February. My surgeon is Dr Cavaretta from Synergy Bariatrics in Buffalo. I am excited, nervous, terrified.... but I know I am making the right decision. I turn 30 a week after my surgery, so I keep joking next year I'll have to have a 30+1 party to Celebrate since I wont be up to celebrating at all this year... I have a few questions... Anyone from the Buffalo/WNY area that wants a surgery buddy? I have major texture issues... can anyone recommend a good pre and post op Protein shake that isnt too gritty? My biggest "fear" for surgery is having a bladder catheter... did anyone have one? I know they want you mobile and walking so Im hoping I wont have one... thanks for any insight!!

I havent yet.. I work in a medical group and my PcP is right here so I plan to weigh on Friday.. I have lost 10 lbs since July 20... I hope to be at 400 for surgery... Im mixing my shakes with skim milk and sometimes add ice. So far so good except Im sick of jello! Good luck! Im here if you need me

Yes I am... surgery Monday morning!! Im finishing day 5 of my preop diet (SF popsicle for snack right now) Im doing well thanks! I was struggling on Saturday.. but I added SF chocolate pudding to my shakes and it is a God send!! It masks the aftertaste of the powder and almost tastes like chocolate milk.. its the only way I can do shakes. I havent had any veggies even though we're allowed... its truly a test of your determination.. but Im so ready for Monday You start your diet on Friday right?

I just mixed a SF peach mix and SF rasberry mix together.. I got both at walmart. Im kind of wishing I had gotten a mix of unflavored instead of french vanilla.. but I just add mixes to them.. for lunch I had more jello and mixed a Berry Propel drink mix to it. Dinner was beef broth and two popsicles lol. We have leftover Pizza Hut in the fridge and I am dying... but each day will get easier. I had my preop physical yesterday also and I am cleared for surgery. Im also down 10 lbs from when I was last weighed in July! I was worried because I have been eating things I know I wont be able to have after surgery. Hoping with the preop diet I will be under 400 for surgery... whoot!

Yes! Start it tomorrow! I bought groceries last night...SF jello and popsicles, SF drink mixes and low sodium broth...My momma even found me a hot pink protein shake bottle. Im almost more afraid of these 10 days than the actual surgery.. all I can think of is them not doing the surgery because I didnt do it right..that wont happen!! let me know if you want my email or phone number to keep in touch... we got this!

Hey all...ordered a Nectar protein variety pack last night...can't wait to try it.. anyone use it?? What are your favorite protein shakes? I have horrible texture issues so I cant drink anything too thick. Thanks!

I was too!! I was more terrified of the catheter than anything else lol. My Nectar samples should be here tmrw.. i will probably use it to make some protein pops and such for before and after sugery.. havent done the Fusion yet... i just bought vanilla and will add sf pudding or sf jello to it. My diet starts next friday.. its crazy how its flown by. I have to say the workshop put to ease many of my worries. Im here for you!

Thongs went well!! I finally got to meet some fellow patients that are having surgery the same day... we were shown some exercises with a resistance band and then went through some nutrition packets... similar to what Ann Marie did but I think its to make sure you understand everything. And we could ask any questions we had. Im assuming you are a sleeve patient, so we will not have any drains or catheters... just our IV... everyone gets at least one heparin shot in the hospital to prevent clotting but the more you move the less its necessary. Lasted just over an hour... then I went to Pine Pharmacy and bought Fusion for the pre op. They want us to us it because its not just protein but a full meal replacement... so ill save my Nectar for post op. Are you getting excited??

I know every surgeon does things differently, but did anyone have a catheter for surgery? I have my pre op workshop Wednesday and want to ask about it... I personally would prefer not to have one... I want to be as mobile as possible so I can walk, walk, walk

I have been doing alot of research on the protein shakea due to my texture issues... found a website called mybariatricpantry.com and found a brand called Nectar. They have a sample pack I ordered to try...hoping I get them and can try them before my workshop so I can ask if I can use them instead. All the reviews state it dissolves like Crystal Light so I think I will tolerate it better. Plus you can mix it and freeze it in cups or as popsicles so you can trick yourself that you're eating lol. Fingers crossed! Will keep you updated...
