  2. hi surgery is in 2 1/2 weeks i keep reading about leaking but not what happens if it happens also, how do we even know if it is happening? is it bleeding? leaking food/liquids we ingest? i'm not even surre i know what it is and what do we do about it? I am goingto Mexico for surgery..across country what does one do if they get home and have complications?
  3. my surgery is 1 week from today started pre-op the other day and harder than giving up the food and harder than giving up smoking co0ld turkey (which i did 9 yrs ago) is giving up DIET PEPSI i love it. i really do. i know it's bad. i know it's poison etc i am not looking for those responses. i am wondering is it ok to ever have it again or should i never?
  4. Ok..title says it all I am supposed to be on a semi all liquid diet for 10 days. Under 40 gm carbs daily. I have been doing Protein shakes w Almond milk (next to nothing carb wise), broth, Jello an a few sugar free fugsicles (19gm for 2) I am type 2 and am really strugglung. MY surgery is in one week. They told me 2 weeks for pre op diet due to my weight assuming my liver would be huge Would I screw things up if I ate a piece or 2 of chicken? I cannot imagine that 10 days of 800-1000 cals w < 30-40 GM carbs and the rest protein that a few pieces of chicen would stall my liver shrinkage or cause it to balloon after shrinking some. or would it? I am really not looking for a license to cheat or whatever, like people asking can't I have a piece of wedding cake. I am serious about this and in for the long haul, but I am nearly seeing double and cannot stay awake. I have one more week of this and struggling any thoughts? I would hate to travel cross country (going to Mexico actually) and get there and they tell me they can't operate...I am not going to blow it over a piece of chicken! But what is the reality of what can be tolerated? Thanks for ideas ad experiences
  5. thanks i am not sure the issue is losinbg weight on it - it's to shrink the liver. i'd hate to travel to Mexico from the North East and they say it's too fatty for them to get to my stomach. Worst case I stay there a few days and do more liquid I'll be positive. I read some posts here about people being postponed and I got worried I might be.
  6. yes..i can ask them. i will be honest & ask. thanks
  7. wow. thanks for all replies. more are welcome i don't crave a cigarette at all and cannot believe i used to live for them i am that way w diet pepsi and hope it turns out the same i am on day 3 w/out it and i am really struggling ! i actually have been having fantasies of chugging large, fizzy, ice cold fountain diet sodas. i hope this passes!
  8. thanks for all the replies it is the toughest thing for me to kick, but i guess i'll have to !
  9. Hi I see many people talk about how much they can eat after surgery and once back on solid foods. Most refer to oz of food...2-3 oz chicken and soft veg etc Any ideas or recs for calories? If people are only eating 3 x day and eating 1/4c of clean food/meals primarily made up of Protein are people really eating 500-800 cals a day for a year? an oz of chicken breast is 25...a 3 oz meal and handful of veg would only be 100-200 at MOST/. throw in some sugar free Jello, popsicles etc I am not looking for permission to eat more I am just curious what people end up having and also if one wants to work out vigorously like run, lift weights etc several x a week how can eating so low provide enough eneregy? All the lit I am reading just refers to volume and 3 meals How much calories and nutrition are people really getting several mo out Thanks
  10. Thanks to all replies. Yes, of course will be following the prescribed plan. Just want to kn ow what to anticipate etc Also, do the content ofthe calories really determine the extent of weight loss since cals are so low? In other words does it matter if one is eating a few hundred calories (50-60 gms) of carbs out of 600-800 or even 1k total calories? Isnn't the caloric deficit enough to maintain aggressive weight loss or do most stick to very low carb and for how long? Until goal is reached etc Thanks
