finally giving in...getting a big haircut (4 months post-op)

You glow no matter the hair length! You will be beautiful (still). -
My two seemed to know and relaxed on couch without stepping on me. I had very little pain anyway so they were warm and comfy. I think they missed a few days of walks. I was able to walk them both by day six (but I walked on my own days 3-5 to build up strength.)

BariatricPal Launching Online Store to sell Discounted Bariatric Nutritional Products ? (Vitamins, Protein etc.)
Lani789 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Syntrax powder and Quest bars and BA vitamins. Any chance you could figure out how to do sample sizes of vitamins? One brand of chewables made me so sick. Two months later I tried one and it stayed. It would have been good to try samples of those. -
Almost four months out and no regrets. There were a few fleeting seconds when I was jealous of others pigging out over Christmas, but the fact that over 60 pounds are gone forever is worth it. I had one piece of chocolate at Thanksgiving (which is all I wanted), and fresh strawberries at Christmas. That and the satisfaction of clearing my closet all the way down to the smallest sizes. Charity got eight big big bags of clothes. And I went shopping and now own really cute bras for the first time! Who knew how fun that would be! I have a secret smile because I know I am wearing cute underwear. No regrets. food and drink is a moment's pleasure, but weight gone is forever.

professional 52yo worried about perception of other members of upper management?
Lani789 replied to scared52yoguy!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hernia all the way. I was in the same position and I asked the surgeon and he said I'm sure you will have a hernia. I had a little heart scare a week before surgery (found in pre op testing and was false positive). I fessed up to that since it was just a one day procedure, then said hernia surgery and out for a week (desk job). So now family and work knows I had a heart scare and I've redirected my life to my health. I started this in the months before surgery, so while people are impressed with the weight loss they aren't shocked. I've told a few people who really need to know, but as I go on I can see it is not something most people need to know. I did find it funny that the young man in the health food store knew right away based on what I was buying! He whispered bariatric surgery? as he was ringing it up. Gee....how could Quest bars, Synergy nectar tub and Smoth Move tea signal that? He said he recognized the grouping from other clients. No judgment there. We stopped and went through Protein drinks and I bought Isopure in several flavors (expensive) and the best I've found yet. So don't discuss. No one at work needs to know. I'm almost 60 and it is tough enough to compete in the corporate world as "old" let alone "scarred". -
First time in 11 yrs I've been under 200lbs
Lani789 replied to tfarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats. I think it is as much a mental barrier goal as a physical one. -
Congrats! I joined the 1xx club this weekend. It's been more like 35 years for me to be in this range. I already treated myself to a wonderful vacation for doing the surgery and lifestyle changes, so for this milestone nothing special, just a rededication to getting more off during the honeymoon phase! And of course dreaming of plastic surgery in a few years.

Scale vs. clothes: what's going on here?!
Lani789 replied to JackieBrown's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I thought maybe the sizes were "upsized" since I was last at this weight, but no, I agree that surgery makes clothes fit differently. My 16Ws, which fit at this weight before, look like clown pants. They sag in the butt and the crotch. I had to get rid of them because they looked silly. Tops, not as much, but they are all "longer" all of a sudden then ever before. The last time I was this low was ten years ago. In the ten years I have found walking and strength training so I know the body underneath the fat is being sculpted. Now to just keep losing the fat that encases incredible muscles! -
Water is making me nauseous. WTH?!
Lani789 replied to ChronicJam's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I loved plain, cold water pre-surgery, but after a couple of weeks post surgery it stopped tasting good. It had a metallic taste. I tried it room temperature which was better. I finally tried drops. Mio wasn't bad. I tried Crystal Light. The grape was good. Ice tea now works but that is limited to one cup a day. Try the drops. I never would have liked them pre surgery but I do like some flavors now. Others went right into the trash! -
Yes my surgeon had me weigh in first time with shoes on. She said we want it heavy. Post surgery it was take off shoes, empty pockets!!!! I laughed but complied. So go back in a week with full pockets of lead weights. Do you have to have documented sleep apnea? I just said my other told me I do but I had a high enough BMI that it didn't matter. No one asked for a sleep test.

And I forgot to add, that much to my daughter's amazement and concern, I was able to do underwater somersaults. I just felt the need to do it. So I flipped a few off. I think the lifeguard was amazed as well. I wasn't, 'cause I knew I had everything under control (for that afternoon at least!). Next goal-not standing out as an American in Europe. Four months to goal!

That was a phrase I didn't expect to say. My 20 something daughter and I were doing a dolphin swim. A wetsuit is recommended since the Water can be chilly. I'm down 60 pounds since surgery so I figured-go for it. Try it. The worse is you will look like Shamu and it won't fit. The attendant handed me a size 16. I giggled inside at the thought someone thought I was a 16. I asked for an 18 'cause I know you work up a sweat getting the thing on. Also, 18 is the biggest they stock. I went into the dressing room, slipped on my suit and then pulled up the wetsuit. Slowly over the torso, then a tug and my arms were in. Ah, the zipper.... I walked out and my size three daughter was waiting. She started to cry and got her arms around me in a hug. She said she never thought she would see me in a wetsuit and now she knew I would live a long life and be able to do anything with her. She zipped me up and the wetsuit was baggy! The attendant was right with the 16, but no way was I trading in a baggy for a skin tight wetsuit! I wore that thing for the rest of the day. I was normal and fit in because I had a wetsuit. Others who couldn't fit into a wetsuit we're also there and went in with the dolphins in a regular bathing suit. It wasn't that cold. But for once, I fit in. I might have been lumpy, but hey, no one much over 40 looked really hot in the wetsuit. I fit in. So for those who have family and friends who are giving their opinion on your health, screw ' em. Do what is right for you to live a long, healthy and happy life. Who knows-your next swim may be in a wetsuit!

Extra charge for ordering from kids menu...anyone else run into this?
Lani789 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in Orlando at theme parks for the past week and I had no trouble ordering from the kids menu. I just said I had surgery and could eat very little. If my companion said they could finish my meal as well (teenager!) I would order from the adult menu. Everything was fine until the airport. We had time so we went to Ruby Tuesday since it was the only table service place in our gate area. They gave me the kids menu but said they would charge me $2 to order from it. I asked if the quantity was the same. Yes. So the only difference was my age. Yes. Sounds like age discrimination to me. The manager confirmed the charge but he couldn't produce it in writing. I've left messages with Ruby Tuesday's corporate office but it is the weekend so I don't expect to hear right away. Has anyone else run into a charge for ordering from the kid's menu? -

Lani789 replied to Lani789's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it was. Normally I would have ordered from the adult menu but since I was at the airport and would be flying then driving for hours taking leftovers wouldn't work. And since we were at the airport this was the best of the food options. However since I travel prepared I pulled out my blender bottle and made two protein drinks while my companion ate. And as the saying goes, it is not the $2, it is just wrong. Since this restaurant isn't in my area I would never visit again but I wanted them to rethink their policy. Which they did. -

Lani789 replied to Lani789's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
UPDATE.... I received an email back from Ruby Tuesday corporate office and they said... "We have consulted with our corporate officers and agreed that we had a pricing structure policy in effect that is outdated and needs to be changed. We will honor the children's menu pricing to any adult that would like to choose an item for the same portion. Please accept our sincere apologies." I am happy with their quick response and their realization that diners want more options these days. And on the other plus size, my teen-age child who was with me at the restaurant realizes that one person can make a difference. She is anxious when there is conflict, but I showed her all I did was make a request and when it was denied, thanked the manager for his time and took the issue to where it could be fixed. I explained to her that when something is wrong we need to speak up. They offered me a gift certificate but I don't think we have that restaurant around here so perhaps they will honor a request to comp a meal for a soldier or some other sharing program. -
This is why I did WLS. My daughter hasn't seen me since August, which was one pre-op diet and one VSG ago. I went into the airport to pick her up today, rather then just picking her up at the curb. I wanted her to see the results as a surprise so I stood back when she came out. She looked my way several times and started to walk away. At that point I started to walk toward her. We made eye contact and her eyes just got bigger and all she could say was "wow!" She said she her brain was in conflict. She thought it looked like me, but it just looked wrong. As we walked to the car I asked her how she felt. She said you look like a normal weight person but with a little more meat on your bones. I said that meat would be going as well. She asked, "Are you going to lose more?" Ha! I told her I wasn't even half way there. She admitted she was nervous to see me because she was afraid I would be different. Interesting to hear that from her perspective, but so far she can see I'm the same inside. I can't wait for the next stretch of three months in the Spring where she won't see me! So my holiday has officially begun. I don't need pumpkin pie with a NSV like this.

My dogs are in heaven. This is the first thing I've cooked in seven weeks since surgery. Even I could smell how good it is. I rolled out the chicken thin but I would try even thinner next time. I baked it and the dogs looked at me with such pitiful eyes. I took it out, added a bit of marinara sauce, then cheese and back in. It smells so good. It doesn't have the crunch (thin crust fan), but other then that it is good. I could only eat two bites and the dogs each got two bites. All the rest going in frig for the rest of the week. Thanks for sharing it.

What's your opinion of these Celebrate Vitamins (capsules)?
Lani789 replied to Okiebon's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Are there any good tasting chewable vitamins? The d are so good so why can't they do same with the multis? -
Ditto to all of this, but on the plus side my feet look fabulous!

I wear mostly yoga pants since I work from home. I realized I was wearing clown pants last Saturday. I had only two pair of Lane Bryant yoga pants- a18/20 and a 14/16. The 18/20 was getting a bit saggy, and I was shocked and pleased to find out the 14/16 I had was the smallest they sold. Time to venture out. I chose Kohls because it was close and I had a coupon. I decided to see what might work. Felt strange to not head to the back for the women's sizes. Turned right and right into the "regular" sizes. At first I thought maybe people would see I didn't belong. I edged around, exploring. Wow so many more choices over here! I finally found the cheap yoga pants and grabbed an Xl and decided I better try them on. Hey, they look nice! I went out to get a Xl second pair and thought, I wonder how close am I to the large? Answer- they fit! Hung back the Xl and grabbed two pair of large. I lost 40 pounds since I bought the 18/20 and I've been this weight before, but somehow the weight loss post surgery is different. It seems to be arranged differently. Look forward to getting into jeans, not just yoga pants, in this size.

Post Surgery (As in just out of Hospital) Weight Gain
Lani789 replied to babelfish5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 8 pounds of fluid. Was quite upset and lost it three days. So I consider that day the real post surgery date to measure from for weight loss. -
This came out in my psych consult. The psychologist said this will happen. He said men in particular will treat you differently. I started to rail about the unfairness, etc and he said, this will happen. It is not fair but it is what happens. I calmed down to listen and he asked are you attracted to men who are 200 pounds overweight? Ummmm....not really. Well men aren't as attracted to women who are overweight. I have male friends who are overweight and am attracted because I know them and don't see the weight. Unfortunately for someone who doesn't know us, they see weight first and not the caring, fun, exciting, generous person. So I am not in the situation yet but I will always wonder if/when there is a guy in my life would he have been attracted to me at my starting weight? It's sad, but I think I know the answer even now....

Do Your Vitamins Make You Sick?!?
Lani789 replied to Ms ~V~'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for starting this. I thought it was in my head. I was fine with bariatric advantage chewables for about three weeks. Now I just can't do it. It is bit better with food but taking the vitamins make it impossible to take anything for about six hours so can't get in liquids or protein. Are there any good chewables that have everything in them? -
Any one have a good suggestion for a place that will do a fitting? I'm shopping in closet now, but I'm thinking of buying one good bra a month or whatever it takes. I'm just two months out but I deserve a good bra!!!!
