  1. Hello. I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out, and I had 6 months to prepare. Yet I felt the same way as you my first few days home. It was like, "Did I really voluntarily have a major surgery on my body, and now I can't eat certain foods like I used to? Did what happened really happened?" I noticed a couple of things now. One is that the pain, the sleepless nights, they get better everyday. Secondly, I notic that I'm really understanding my body better, and its needs. I'm walking everyday. I'm planning my protein, water, and pureed food daily, and I'm really enjoying this new outlook on life. Just my thoughts to your post, which I though was excellent!

    Bowl Movement

I would focus on getting in my water and protein. The bowel movement will come. It sounds like you are not putting enough in your body to promote a bowel movement. I'm almost 3 weeks post op, but last week I didn't get my water in for a couple of days, and I ended up constipated. Believe me you don't want constipation. My constipation led to hemmorhoids. So get your water and protein in, and you'll get that bowel movement.
  3. I had a drain, and they removed it on discharge day. I have read posts on this blog site of people who went home with drain in their body. They talked about cleaning it, etc...
  4. My incisions don't itch, but my lower left incision hurts when I stand up, sit down, or lie down. Sometimes it hurts when I'm walking and my clothes rub up against it. Elsewise I feel great!! I'm losing close to 8lbs a week, and fitting into clothes I never thought I'd ever wear again. I'm going up and down the stairs comfortably. It's all good!! :-) :-).
  5. @@BigDude I agree wholeheartedly with your words!!

    Depression

I don't have any ideas but you will be in my prayers.

    Its here!

Congratulations!! I'll be praying for both of you. I had the bypass on November 4th and its been the best decision, regarding my health, that I've ever made!! Good luck :-) :-)
  9. @@BigDude hey man try to get some rest tonight and welcome home :-).
  10. Good morning!! Sounds good. Try to jeep that walking up when you get home and thanks for the update. :-) :-) :-)
  11. @@carriekos It's great to hear how well you are doing!! It really does get better everyday. I went to my support group meeting tonight. I've lost 16lbs since my surgery two weeks ago (November 4th). I've lost 80lbs since my first surgical evaluation in April. I've still got discomfort in my lower left incisions but else wise everything is great!! :-) :-)
  12. @@mizzjaejeff I was shocked by how anxious I got about 72 hours before surgery. In retrospect for me it started with a "Jimmy Johns" commercial. I thought that I never had one of their sandwiches and now I never would. Then I mentally made a list of placed I never ate, followed by why am I voluntarily allowing myself to have major surgery done on my body. BUT THEN I THOUGHT ABOUT WHY I AM DOING THIS AND MY GOALS FOR A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE (I was yelling at myself not you :-)) I was relaxed the night before and day of my surgery, but I still had some concerns. However, I knew in my heart that when I looked at the risks vs rewards, then I had to move forward. There's a saying, "Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is being fearful and anxious, but still doing what you know you have to do." You will be fine and we'll be waiting to hear the good news about your new life. Good night.... New Jeffrey
  13. @@jessica2014 I will be praying for you. Hang in there because it really does get better :-) :-)
  14. Hail to the Miralax and the November group said, "Amen" :-) :-). I'm going to need to cut back on the Miralax, but you are so right, nothing beats a good BM. I started to walk outside yesterday and today, but we got the same cold weather here in Southern New Jersey. My Bariatric Center has its own support group that meets tonight. I'm excited about finally going and being post operation. I started going in June, and I always learns new things at meetings, but this should be different now that I've actually had the surgery. I'll also get weighed and see what progress has been made. Have a great day November buddies!!!! :-) :-)
  15. I definitely have that full feeling, which makes me have to be intentional about constantly sipping to get my fluid and proteins in. I'm going to use your protein powder with light almond milk recipe. It seems like you get more protein and less to drink. I'm using "Premier Protein" ready to drink vanilla and chocolate protein shakes. They're only 11 ounce and have 30 grams of protein per shake. If I drink three (3) of these, then I get 90 grams of protein. I went from loose stools to constipation. I was ready to call the doctors office this afternoon, but the Miralax I took this morning finally kicked in :-). Tomorrow will be 2 weeks post operation. I still have slight discomfort on left side incisions, but only when I reach up high with my left arm, or sit up or down too fast. I haven't weighed myself since last week. I'm waiting for our Bariatric center's support group meeting on Wednesday night. I can tell that I lost a lot by clothes, stair climbing, and overall feeling. I love what we have decided to do to better our health and lifestyles!! :-) :-) The benefits definitely outweigh the risks!! New Jeffrey

    A little about me

Shawn thank you for your transparency and I'm glad too see you moving forward in your life!!! Awesome brother :-) :-). I am proud to be making this journey with you. Jeffrey (New Jeffrey)
  17. Good luck Jessica!!! And congratulations!! :-) :-)
  18. Well right now I am on a full liquid diet phase, and tomorrow is 2 weeks post operation. I have to get in 80 - 100 grams of protein, and 64 ounces of water a day. I literally have to force myself to drink and/or eat soups. I'm never hungry. I've been drinking a lot of water the last two days because I was constipated. Thankfully some Miralax fixed that, but I'm never hungry.
  19. Praying for everybody who is having surgery today and rest of this week. We will be making room for you on the Losers bench :-) :-).
  20. I was told to go with chewable vitamins or liquid. So I went to Vitamin Shoppe and bought the Bariatric chewable multivitamin by twin lab. I also bought Twin labs liquid B Complex 50 and the B-12 sublingual dots. There all pretty easy to take. My Bariatric Center recommended taking chewable Tums for 8 weeks as a calcium source and for the stomach (gas, etc...) and then moving to calcium citrate. We also were advised NOT to take anything in a gummy form due to our new pouches. Its good to hear everybody is doing well. Its interesting. If you look at our conversations 3 weeks ago we were all pressing through the 2 week liquid diet, dealing with anxieties about the surgery, and dealing with the stress of our everyday lives!! Now we are talking about vitamins!! :-) :-). I guess you can tell by our conversations that things do get better one day at a time. That's encouraging :-) :-)

    Anyone tried won ton wrappers?

    Amen Nicole!! :-) :-) I can't wait.
  22. It sounds like your right on course, as far as my experience. It gets better everyday. The walking helps with the gas, and as I drank more the gas led to loose stools. In fact, anytime you think you are about to pass gas go to the toilet. I got surprised once :-). Take care. Jeffrey
  23. Dabliss. That's good news!! I agree with Ready2b. Everyday it gets better. Take care....
  24. Shake, rattle, and roll baby!!! :-). That's the gasman wanting to be released!! :-). You'll be okay. Just keep letting him shake, rattle, roll, and release!!!! :-) :-)
  25. Good morning TJ. I'm so happy for you!! :-) . Enjoy. It gets better everyday.
