    failure

Ok, I haven't been on this site in a long time probably mostly out of shame....I had lapband surgery a year ago and have lost 30lbs, but feel like a complete failure becuase it would probably be more if I could get my lazy ass to the gym. Has anyone else out there gone through this and what words of encouragement can you give to help me get through this little pity party? Don't get me wrong, those 30lbs are great for me, but I am tired of not winning this battle of the bulge.

    scared of being thin?

Okay, has anyone out there ever felt afraid of being thin? I know its a weird question, but I was thinking about it the other night. I am doing all my pre-band drs appts after finally making the decision to have WLS. I've struggled with my weight ALL of my life, and at the age of 34 and facing a lot of family hereditary health issues and lots of risk factors for developing them....its time for me to do something, but being heavy all my life, I don't know what life is like being skinny and its something that scares me. I think I am scared of failing even with WLS becuase of so many failures in the past. I think the last time I can remember being "skinny" was like 8 or 9 yrs old and since then its been a long battle against weight. Anyone else feel the same way? I guess just have butterflies now that I've made the decision and don't want to fail at this one last time. teebutterfly:help:
  3. banded 3/17, weight that day was 308, down to 287 which is 21lbs gone! tee
  4. Just wanted to toss this out there. Yesterday, I probably ate something I shouldn't have (chicken salad with some bread) and all today I've had this funny feeling in my chest, kind of like indigestion, or gas - not chest pain as in heart attack, but just feels funny. Does anyone know what it feels like if the band slips? I guess I am just paranoid that's whats happened. I have been able to eat Soup and drink liquids. Any input would be great! Tee

    Funky Feeling in Chest

thanks all for the advice and input. Took some gas-x strips and tylenol when I got home, got a good night's rest and seems like its much better today, I think its gas and irritation, so sticking to "easy" stuff today. This is so new to many of us, I guess we all have our freak out moments! Tee
  6. Hey all, Just double checking if this is normal. Since banding on the 17th, my stomach/disgestive system I guess in general have been some major rumbling. Its kind of like growling, digesting all mixed up which sometimes makes me think I need to eat something, even though my appetite has been all but zero these past days. Sometimes the rumbling produces gas, sometimes it seems stronger where the stomach is. Anyone else experience this? Tee:lol:

    Gained a pound on mushies

As of my 2 week post appt on Wed, I'd like you had lost a total of 22 lbs and over the past 2 days seemed to have picked up 2 pounds since starting mushies on Monday. I was looking at the other responses and it looks like I can breath in relief to know that its not abnormal. My MD said its not the "norm" to lose that much weight post op, so like someone said, it is a bonus. I was frustrated yesterday, but after reading these posts, seems like it is a normal experience until our first fill. My MD told me if I continue to lose like I've been losing since surgery, I'd be okay with no fill for 1-2 months. I've started walking to try and keep active and plan on going back to the gym Monday.

    sweet 16

Okay, one more question - weighed 305 at time of surgery and according to my scale at home I am now 289 - I've gotten on there like a dozen times so are my eyes deceiving me or did I really lose 16lbs in 5 days? And is this normal? Tee:thumbup:

    is this okay

sneezing is the worst for me I think, second comes blowing my nose! First time I sneezed, OMG!!!!
  10. Okay, its post op day 5 and still no poops! I know its only liquid in = liquid out, but should I be worrying? I have been passing gas like a champ, just no poop. Some advice would be helpful! Tee:mad:
  11. Hey ya'll, I feel like I'm bombarding with questions, just trying to make sure my experiene is normal. 5 days post op now and moving around much better. Should I be able to feel my port? I know where the port incision is, but have been pressing around there - probably more than I should and haven't felt any port yet. Is that normal, or is it just still swelling, etc? tee
  12. I too have been having a hard time with this, being banded this past Monday, but it does get easier, its a constant challenge to keep sipping. I've lost almost 13lbs since monday. Even the Boost is a challenge to drink. Everything stays down okay, its just getting it down.

    the poops

Okay, this might be a dumb question, but I try it anyway! I have been able to pass gas okay which is big relief aftering being banded monday and have stuck to my post-op liquid diet faithfully. So when do we start pooping? Or do we if we're only on liquids since you're not taking in anything w/ any real bulk? Should I be worried? Tee:rolleyes2:
  14. :angry_smile:Hey guys, Was banded on Monday and today feeling a bit like normal, but every now and then when I move the wrong way, my port site feels like it pulls and huts like crazy. I get to shower today so I am headed to do that and take off my bandages to check everything out. Anyone else have this problem? Its kind of funny, I thought I would be starving, but I have virtually no appetite and really have to make myself drink Water every hour and my Protein shake. Going to take a shower and then chill on the couch. -Tee

    Port Site hurts

thanks guys, comforting to know it seems pretty normal. Like ya'll said, if I catch it "just right" it stings, but it makes sense about the whole muscle wall site and healing. Getting up and moving around a bit better each day.
  16. I must confess....I have been on a lower carb diet for the past 5 weeks.....1 extra week, becaue my surgery got pushed back a week for my doctor being out of town for my original surgery date on the 10th. I totally messed up this week and have been eating normally, and after reading Tom's post about his steak issue.....I have to say I am so incredibly down on myself now for messing up this past week. I was limited to 40 carbs a day on the pre-op diet, but this past week has been hell. Someone tell me I totally haven't messed up my surgery scheduled for Monday! Or just some reassurance is needed. Its been a rough 5 weeks, but didn't really get to me until this past week - that dreaded "extra week" Any suggestions or lectures? Tonya
  17. Hi all, this is my very first thread. I started the journey to weight loss surgery this past Thurs by attending an educational session and starting the process. Initially I was gung ho for lap band and not sure if I want to do that or bypass......can anyone share with my why they decided to lap band over bypass? Making the decision to do weight loss surgery in general wasn't an easy one, but I am so happy I have but now just kind of on the fence about which one to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tonya - Greenville, NC :help:

    lap band vs. bypass

Thanks for both of you honesty - I guess I didn't look at it terms of future health, and I'd rather be back up and at em rather than longer recovery and more risks! How have you guys done so far since being banded?
