    Pre-op weightloss

Mine use my initial qualifying weight BMI of 45. By the time the approval came through I was at a 39 BMI, and it wasn't an issue. They encouraged us to lose as much weight as possible along the way.

    I'm just like him...

I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. I'm sure he is proud and smiling at you and your sister's decision to have wls. Live life to its healthy fullest in his honor everyday. There is no better tribute you can give in his name.

    Finished 6 months req visits

Every surgeon/insurance is different, and I was able to lose more than the ten percent required by mine. In my case there were three defining weigh in's: the weight that qualified me to start the ball rolling towards wls, the program ending weight just before approval, and finally the weigh in at the surgical consult. My surgeon made it clear that if I gained any weight between the consult and surgery dates (which was a little over a month), it could jeopardize my getting it done. This timeframe is especially important because of the liver shrinking aspect. I took that possibility to heart and went on to lose a bit more. I didn't want to take any chance of my surgery being canceled. Plus the more weight you lose as a pre op the better. I was weighed again the day before surgery at the hospital for my PREP appointment, and the day of surgery. My surgeon took the pre op weight loss very seriously, but some others are more lenient. Good luck!

    Help please

I first made sure my policy covered bariatric surgery. After that I immediately made an appointment with my doctor to start the ball rolling. ????

    Journey advice.

Really understand how much this is going to change your life before you take the plunge. Research until you could teach a class in weight loss surgery blindfolded. Keep a journal, preferably video. Take plenty of before pictures and measurements. Don't have a closed mind on type of procedures coming in. I was set on one but the more I learned over the year of pre op hurdles I had to jump, I decided to switch, based on what was right for me personally. Don't become a slave to the scale after surgery. It'll drive you mad! Good luck!

    Approved immediately :)

    Hi I'm Shotzy.

Your surgery date is just around the corner, congrats! Don't be scared. You'll do fine. Your anesthesiologist will probably come and talk to you before wheeling you in. He/She might ask if you'd like something before, just to calm your nerves. Mine did and I honestly don't remember anything after scooting over to the surgical gurney - not the mask being placed over my face, recovery... nothing! I had a very smooth surgery and recovery. If they don't offer, you can always ask if you'll still feeling nervous. Best of luck! ????

    Going crazy and scared

As long as you are toeing the line it will happen, but in its own time. You've already had great success. More will come. ????.
  22. Hi Wendy and welcome. From my experience the psych evaluation was a breeze. They really just want to assure that you're educated about the surgery and have a realistic view of how you'll need to change your lifestyle in order to work it to its fullest potential. They also usually ask about your past dieting history, your family life and support system etc. Just relax and be yourself. You'll do fine!
