    Fear leading up to surgery

My RNY was also my very first surgery, and very first time under anesthesia. And at 54 I had managed to dodge that bullet for quite awhile. I can't promise you the same outcome of course, but I had zero complications and at nearly nine weeks out, a worry free recovery as well. It was so much easier than I ever expected. Apprehensions are normal, but try and focus on the results you are seeking - a healthy life. I was very calm going in and I think that helped with the overall experience I had. Hang in there, and best of luck!

    Waking up from surgery?

I remember very little. Nothing of recovery. I was in my room before I was aware of anything. I remember I had some back pain, but very minimal, from either being flat on the table or gas, I'm not sure which, but it was quickly controlled. No nausea. No vomiting. I was in my room by 6 and walking by 10 the same day.

    Scheduled for January 20th 2016

Congrats! Research your little heart out, to the point where you could do the surgery on yourself in a pinch. ???? The more you learn and begin to change your lifestyle now to accommodate all the changes to come the better. Best of luck!

    New Sleever / feeling overwhelm

Welcome. Yes, the first week is the worst, but each day should find you getting a bit better. I remember a few bouts of light headedness, but they soon disappeared. I was also on a PPI to help with heartburn, and never experienced any, so check with your doctor about prescribing one. Get your fluids in above all else. Hope you feel better soon!

    Weight loss journey.

I agree with a lot of folks - the wait seemed tortuous at times. But now that's it's all behind me, it feels like nothing in the grand scheme of things. And I appreciate now that it was all to my benefit in the end, as I couldn't have been more prepared.

    It's not a downward slope!

I think your loss is substantial, and perfectly in line with your particular body's schedule. You're doing great!

    Emotional Mess

Of course you're feeling stressed and that's perfectly normal. This is a time when it's not only okay but paramount that you focus your attention entirely on yourself. This is for you, for your health, and for your future. Review all the reasons why you started out on this journey in the first place. I'm betting that not one of those reasons has changed. Try your best to get a good night's sleep. Your future is waiting!

    Bari Boot Camp

The classes covered everything from the different surgery options, nutrition, exercise, body image, support systems, cross addictions, reading and understanding food labels and ingredients, meditation, life after surgery, emotional health, adjusting to change, etc., and my personal favorite: guest speakers from prior classes who had already had their surgeries done. The material provided was at times pretty basic. Information wise, I feel I learned much more from my own research. But going through the experience with my fellow classmates was invaluable. I was in the hospital at the same time with three of them, and we're still in touch today.

    Too much, too soon

It's hard getting used to the new restrictions, but this early out in the healing process I would suggest you not try to "push" things any further. Give your body the time it needs to repair itself and adjust to the trauma it's been through. Good luck!
