Classic case of over confidence...
The Candidate replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's pretty normal for the course, so don't beat yourself up. You've come way too far and accomplished so much already. That victory gift may have been purchased a tad prematurely, but in no short order it will be yours for the win! With plenty of more wins to follow! -

Alas, even weight loss surgery won't help me reach "normal" status. But I kind of like it that way. ???? -
Anyone having surgery in Oct ?
The Candidate replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry this happened. But good that you can still have the sleeve. I hope the next time around gives you a much better outcome. Hang in there. -
Sleeve or Bypass?
The Candidate replied to mayasmomma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I chose the bypass for many reasons. I was concerned about GERD issues which has been a post op complication for some, definitely not all, who have had the sleeve. I also have a terrible sweet tooth and thought the fear of dumping would help curtail that addiction long term. And I wanted both the restriction and malabsorption components to help me reach goal. This is really such a personal choice that has to be adapted to fit your particular lifestyle and expectations. When I began this journey I was dead set on the sleeve. But as I progressed towards surgery, I started to have doubts. Probably the biggest factor in my switch to bypass over sleeve was the fact that I *would* be able to eat most anything I wanted, only in smaller portions. I know this is listed as a pro for most, but for me, I felt that would be a gateway back to my old bad food choice ways. I'm 11 weeks out, and I don't have a single regret. Do as much research as you can in determining which will be best for you. Good luck! -

I have to stress that everyone is different. But my bypass was the first operation I've ever had, and I'm 54. And it ended up being so much easier than I ever imagined. My only real pain, and it was very minimal, was from my drain. And that was well taken care of by my pain pump. I was up and walking within hours of my surgery. The drain was removed the day of discharge. I had arranged to stay with family for a week, as I live alone. I stayed there one night, slept in a bed, didn't need a recliner, and drove myself home the next morning. I honestly felt that good. Had arranged for my dogs to be cared for out of house as I was concerned they would jump on me. Got them back the very next day. Didn't need the at home pain meds. The only downside for me was I was very tired, and I did take a lot of naps. I took a full six weeks off, to heal and adjust. But if I'd been forced to, I could have gone back in a week. Sometimes I wondered if they really operated on me, I felt so good. But at 11 weeks the weight is definitely coming off, so now I'm sure! ???? Hope you both have as easy a time. Good luck!
