I've always had a fan in my office cubicle. I could break out into a sweat walking to the copier or going to the bathroom. This year, for the first time, I've got a space heater on my Christmas wish list. Today I'm wearing a sweater that is at least three sizes too big for me, but it keeps me warm so I'm hanging onto it. It's amazing how different it is after surgery.

Pain after Surgery - What to Expect?
The Candidate replied to NewLifeFinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@moothz wow that must have been awful! I was on a morphine pump the entire time I was in the hospital with my RNY. My pain was actually minimal but it definitely helped me sleep through the noise and chaos of being in a hospital. What you went through is more along the lines of cruel and unusual punishment. You're definitely a trooper! -
I have a couple of friends I met through BP, when I first started, both of whom dropped off immediately after having surgery. I chose to stay on, in part because I think it makes me more accountable to staying on track with my food and exercise. There's also the fact that I learned so much more here in the year leading up to surgery, than I ever did in my program mandated classes. This place saved me from going crazy during the long pre op wait. So I really wanted to try and give back some of that help I received here to the newbies who would come after me. So yes, at times it's an addiction, but I'd definitely label it a healthy one!

Time off work - selfish?
The Candidate replied to Leesa926's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I took a full six weeks off and have no regrets. I told my office I was having surgery, but not the type. You have a right to recover properly from major surgery. I would not feel any guilt in that regard. Good luck! -

It might feel like a bumpy ride at times, especially at the beginning, but there's some pretty gnarly gold waiting at the end of that rainbow. Keep your eye on the prize! ???? -
Preop diet survey
The Candidate replied to anchorup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had a one day pre op liquid diet. But I was also required to lose 10% of my body weight during the six months of classes, and I actually lost more. HW: 248, SW: 216. -
This is the beginning of a happy healthy life for you. Congrats!

Insurance and Approval
The Candidate replied to vclark03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! I wouldn't worry too much about the psych evaluation. It's scared me too, going in, but turned out to be nothing. Usually they just want to get an idea of where your head is at concerning the surgery. Are you aware of how your life is going to change? What do you know about the procedure, and are your post op expectations realistic? What is your family like, and do you have a support system in place? They may discuss your health and diet history, delve some into addictions (if any), among other things. Mine was a very easy, relaxed one on one conversation. Just be yourself and be honest, and you'll do fine. Some also require basic personality written (usually multiple choice) tests too, but mine didn't. Congrats on starting your wls journey. I have zero regrets at nearly four months out. Best decision ever! -
Good luck to everyone having surgery today! This will be the beginning of a whole new life for each of you. Best wishes!

What have you learned to love since WLS?
The Candidate replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Definitely water! I used to hate it before and now it's pretty much all I drink. -
It's not an altogether unusual fear. Any surgery is scary. Try to stay positive and focus on how much better your life is going to be after. Good luck!
