Dr. Terry Simpson - Banded by Dr. Simpson
prillywilly replied to Mariposa2009's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Thanks! The pain is gradually receding. I have discovered that when I feel the gas building like a fake burp, if I open my mouth to the sky and pretend I am going to burp, the pain doesnt go directly to my shoulder, as it had before. My newest challenge is learning to lie on my side, using many pillows, it is still rather difficult. I go back to work tomorrow (eep!) and I am a bit nervous about that. I will just lay low. I only work 5 hours a day so I cant complain too much! -
I am sick!! Please help me!

I dont mean to sound abrupt but you should definitely call your doctor asap. Have you taken your temperature? Make sure you do not have a fever as well. -

Post op pain..is it from gas?

I had surgery on June 17th and the shoulder pain is borderline unbearable! I have slept with the heating pad on it 2 nights in a row, its on there most of the day, I walk around every 30-45 mins, I am on vicodin as well as ibuprofen, and nothing seems to help. Gas x didnt help anything. It hurts when I sit, stand, breath in, or try to burp. I'm running out of ideas and I'm real tired of sleeping sitting straight up. Any other suggestions? -
Has anyone else not been able to urinate after surgery?
prillywilly replied to rebahorn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, when I relax it just sort of comes out slowly on its own. I guess maybe up until now I was always rushing it! -

Hey guys, surgery went well. I'm still pretty sore in the shoulders and I have a gnarly migraine, but my incisions are doing well. I cant wait to get rid of the gas pain. I have been drinking enough water to drown a camel and I'm dizzy from walking around the house. I have also been using a heating pad. Does anyone else have any ideas? -

I had surgery on June 17th and while I do urinate, its just a little bit at a time. I feel like I am being potty trained! I dont know if its just mental for me though because I am afraid to use too much pressure. -

Thanks again so much. Seriously, up until the last day or so, this has been quite a lonely adventure. All my friends are skinny, and my husband is one of those 6.5 beanpole types, lol. Its very lonely not having anyone who understands to talk to. I am really glad I found this website. -
Hi everyone. Long time reader, first time writer, heheh. After much procrastinating I am finally on the road to a healthier life. I have my first appt with the Dr next week and I am pumped! I just have a question for people who have already gone through the process. What is the average time from first appointment to surgery for most of you? I am trying to get an idea what to expect. I have United Health, and it is a covered procedure, its just about getting approved. I am lucky that I am covered by my insurance and my husbands (which is also UHC). Anyone care to share? Thanks a lot. April

Wow, thanks for all the info! I was real worried about the first week. I have been getting conflicting info, so I thought only Clear liquids, but Keifer, Protein, and Jello sounds good. I have had 2 prior laparascopic procedures for other conditions, so I know all about the ups and downs with the gas. One surgery I didnt even notice, but another one hurt immensely, I had to sleep sitting propped straight up! I will definitely look into liquid tylenol, didn't even think of that! So did you take any Multivitamins during the first week? I will be taking a week off after surgery to allow for healing, thank goodness, because at first I was thinking to myself, 1 week? Who needs it! but maybe I will! -
Hi everyone, another Junie here! My surgery is scheduled for June 17th (this Wednesday!) and I am getting pretty excited! I cannot wait to share this journey with you all. :tongue_smilie:

I live in Mesa, so about 30-45min away? I guess that makes me pretty lucky. I have heard Dr Simpson for years, he is one of Phoenix Top Docs, and I work in the medical field here so I have used that to research him further, and I was impressed! Can I ask you what your first 2 weeks post-op were like? What did you eat, and do you have any recommendations? They said they may still have me stay the night, what was that like? I'm all full of questions, hahaha. I have been devouring this website since yesterday. :tongue_smilie: -

Hey everyone, I'm April and I am being banded by Dr Simpson on Wednesday June 17th! I'm getting pretty excited. I'm glad there is another place to talk with other bandsters, it just seems like only 4 people use Dr Simpsons message board. I look forward to chatting with all of you! April -
After tons of research this is who I am going with as well. He only does Lapband, and he is a proctor, which means he teaches the procedure to other doctors. He also gets all email immediately to his blackberry and will respond to you right away. (I shot the office a nervous email the other morning around 6:30 and he wrote me back around 7ish to let me know one of the girls would be calling me soon with all the answers to all my questions, and she did so, even before they opened) I was researching Mexico bands but thinking about the fact that 1. Its Mexico, so its unregulated. 2. They dont use the same FDA approved bands 3. Who do you go to if they screw up? I have heard many good things, but the bad things happen to outweigh it in my mind.

Wow, I cannot believe it has been a year since my last post. That is how long it took me to "get ready" for everything. A lot has happened in the last year that has put off my surgery, but that day is coming soon! I will be banded June 17th, this Wednesday! I am pretty excited. -
