Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve
CocoPebbles1030 replied to DinaNJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on October 27th and on the date or surgery weighed 172 pounds. I haven't told many people about getting the sleeve but the few I've told, most have said the same thing. "You're not that big. Why would you do that to yourself?" I've suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol for 13 years. Today I weighed in at 161 and as of this past Monday I am free from all prescription medications. So that is reason enough to get the surgery. To be free from diseases that were sure to kill me one day! Take control of your health and ignore the thoughts of others!!! Blessings~ -

I was also sleeve on 10/27. Best decision I've ever made. -
Got a letter from my insurance today (IBCBS) and they are requesting The Clinical Information necessary to review the request. Anyone have any idea what this is? Could it be the psychological eval? I'm so excited. Can't wait to get approved. Thanks all!

My doctor says it's for the best in the long run. He also said in about 5 years it will standard procedure to repair the hernia during all bariatric surgeries.

I began "mushy" this past week and it's been great. I've been eating Turkey Chili and chicken Tortilla Soup with unflavored Protein added. It has been wonderful. By the way, my new tummy's name is "Nikki" -
Surgery Date Taking Too Darned Long
CocoPebbles1030 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I got approved on Friday and was so excited. Today I called my surgeon's office and my excitement quickly fizzed. Why is the earliest surgery date available on 11/26... the day before Thanksgiving? The next date after that is December 8th. What the heck? Are that many people having the bariatric surgery? They are putting me on a wait list. Is it wrong for me to pray that someone else gets cancelled? When will this be over? OMG! -
Has anyone become single as a result of their weight loss surgery?
CocoPebbles1030 replied to pinkbunies's topic in Singles Forum
The psychologist I saw for insurance purposes told me that he has more patients who are the spouses and significant others of weight loss surgery patients than he does weight loss patients and he specializes in patients. He said although the personality rarely changes after surgery, the spouse's personality often changes. They resent the attention the patient is now getting and they start to feel insecure. He advised me to be patient and careful with my boyfriend because it's also an adjustment for him. He's going to get a new girlfriend whether he likes it or not. He said the spouse often doesn't even realize it's happening until they wake up one day and are insecure. It's like you switch roles in the relationship. I'm a single parent and he also gave me good advice on my teenage daughter with the same regard. -
Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?
CocoPebbles1030 replied to Kevineastwest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a lower BMI (33 at surgery). I'm only two days post-op but feeling good so far. The doctor said I would lose about 10 pounds the first month or two and then slow down to 2-3 pounds a week. The restriction should increase over time with you feeling the old fashioned type of full after about 2 months. Hope this help! -
I've got two more days till I'm sleeved and I'm nervous, scared, and excited all at the same time. I can't wait for this to be over. The unknown is the scary part. I keep playing the "what if" game. But on the bright side, I'm feeling better than I have in years. I've lost 18 pounds and haven't been this weight in 17 years. Can't wait to continue the journey with a smaller stomach. At this point, I don't even mind the pre-ope diet. It really does get better every day. Yesterday I actually forgot to have my lunch shake and didn't remember it until I went to log dinner in MyFitnessPal. Well, thanks for listening. I think I just needed to vent to some people who would understand. Blessings and good health!

Two Days Till I'm Sleeved
CocoPebbles1030 replied to CocoPebbles1030's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone. I was sleeved on Monday and I came home yesterday. I was scared but very anxious. The staff was amazing. Everyone took such great care of me. The drugs were great and I was in no pain until late Monday night when the gas pains started. OMG!! That was the worse pain I'd ever had, including labor. When they finally gave me something for the gas, it was great. Doctor says I'm healing beautifully. I made it home yesterday at around 5 and home is the best place for recovery. Once I got home I was able to sleep without the doctors and nurses prodding and poking. Today woke up feeling really good, just a little sore. Can't eat but I'm not hungry at all. It's amazing. I never thought I wouldn't be thinking about food. Yesterday I was able to get down about 2 ounce of broth and 3 ounces of Protein. Today I have only gotten down 7 ounces of protein. My new stomach spasms every time I take a drink (including the pain meds) but it's not really that bad. Doctor says it gets better every day. Just wanted to share with everyone, it's not bad. None of the "what ifs" happened. The worse part was indeed the gas and it was only about an hour. Blessings and good health! -

Success despite partner not being supportive
CocoPebbles1030 replied to briefs199's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. I, too support everyone but have little support when I need it. I know men tend to hide their emotions and feelings. Deep down he may not know how to support you. He also may be feeling a little anxious, wondering what it will be like for him when you have the surgery. Be a little gentle with him and with yourself. I'm finding great support here and on youtube. This is a kind of selfish time for you. Take advantage of it and be good to yourself! -
Surgery Date Taking Too Darned Long
CocoPebbles1030 replied to CocoPebbles1030's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for the advice. I did schedule the surgery for November 26th. Once I thought about it, I realized I have 48 thanksgiving dinners. I can give up one in the name of my new life. I'm not cooking so it's not a problem. I've been working hard for the last 3 months and I'm 16 pounds down. Don't want anything to get me down now! I called and scheduled the day. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again! -
Super excited. I finally received my approval from Blue Cross. My surgeon's office had a verbal approval on Wednesday but wouldn't schedule my pre-op appointment until one of us had the paper. The only bummer is, it's Saturday and the surgeon's office is closed. But I'm on my way. Can't wait till Monday. Who says that . Have an amazing day everyone. Blessings ~

Insurance Needs More Info
CocoPebbles1030 replied to CocoPebbles1030's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all. I spoke to my surgeon's office and the insurance company has everything they need. They have confirmed they will be sending my approval letter in the next day or so! I'm so excited. -
I'm hoping for late October. Had first visit with the surgeon and am scheduled for testing next week. If all goes well, I will see the surgeon on 9/22 and get scheduled for mid to late October. I'm so excited!

Anyone else feel like everyone is against you?
CocoPebbles1030 replied to LisaLou30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there. I'm also in the beginning stages -- just met with the surgeon on Monday. Forget abut the primary care physician. Remember, doctors make more money when we're sick and on medications. Of course he/she doesn't want you to lose the weight. Hubby sounds scared. Don't sweat it. He is just a bit nervous of what will happen when you do lose the weight. He will come around. Get your support from friends here and support groups. Keep your chin up. Do it for you, even if you feel like you're doing it alone.
